Dr. Ast is the BEST! He replaced my right hip in October 2019 and my left hip in February 2021. I am truly grateful that I met Dr. Ast and was lucky enough to have my surgery done at HSS. When I found myself at 41 years old and in need of a double hip replacement I was in shock. With living 2 hours away from NYC I was planning on choosing a surgeon close to home. Dr. Ast came highly recommended by another doctor whom I know personally. Dr. Ast gave me my life back. Dr Ast and HSS were outstanding with the level of care that I was given. I will never look anywhere else for orthopedics. I would recommend to anyone who needs hip or knee replacement to use Dr Ast. Dr. Ast is the BEST! Thanking HSS and Dr Ast for my tremendous care. My hip replacement was a total success within 3 weeks. I stayed a night at the hospital. They had me up and doing steps within the day. Totally pain free. Enjoying spring hikes again..

I had a total hip replacement February of 2019 by Dr Ast. I was home the same day of surgery, and I am now able to do things that I was unable to do for several years. I am walking several miles a day, cycling, riding my horse, working and happily working towards developing my organic market garden at age 67! Cannot thank HSS and Dr Ast enough! I had total hip replacement surgery on June 19, 2019. Our entire experience at HSS, with Dr. Ast, and all the staff who were there to help me were wonderful. I stayed over one night. I had complete pain relief. The nurses were wonderful and came promptly when you needed assistance. Dr. Ast was easy going. He was thorough in making sure all my husband and my concerns were handled. My surgery was scheduled for 11 am and everything went like clockwork. My recovery has been going very smoothly. My pain has been minimal. Last year Dr. Ast replaced both knees (5 months apart). I had wonderful results with both Knees. Walked the day of the operations and went home the next day with minimal pain. The scars are not very obvious, Dr. Ast has a pleasant personality and takes the time to answer your questions.
