About Mitra Abessi
Reviews for Mitra Abessi
Highly encourage you to look elsewhere. This office is a joke - they will send the wrong codes to your insurance company and also in my case; they will add in lab items that you did NOT get. Make sure you always look at your bill if you are a patient at this office. I had to call them numerous times to have my bill corrected.
Dr Abessi is very knowledgeable and compassionate. I am very fortunate to have her as my medical doctor. Her office staff was wonderful. Nancy Fazio FNP-BC
Started out with praises. She seemed like she wanted to help me. Her personality Changed, no more caring , the heart of a used car salesman.
I had gotten fed up with they cold fish bedside manner , I decided to change Doctors after months of no thyroid meds and I must add I only have one parathyroid left, no thyroid and lost three para thyroid. I just went for final visit and she came in and in a high pitched voice said"whaddya ya doin in my office, I thought you fired me? Wadda ya doing here? She was acting like a thug! I was waiting for her to chest bump me!
Dr. Abessi is the absolute best. She listens to symptoms and is excellent at troubleshooting health issues by connecting the dots in a way most doctors do not. She is kind, caring and professional. She really is an incredible doctor!
Perhaps because it was a med refill appt, but this was the most rushed encounter I have ever had with a doctor. Did not want to discuss any of my issues - just wanted to refer out. But still looked in my mouth and noted that I had a tremor and asked if I had ever seen a neurologist! Completely unrelated to the matter at hand and very scary. No further advice given on that. And for the referrals, no specific doctor recommendations. Just a list of general numbers for other Hunterdon system departments. Really felt bad coming out of there. Feels like you are totally on your own in today’s medical “systems.” Doctors don’t appear to care about people anymore.
I had one very discouraging experience with Dr Abessi, during a time of great need in my life. I had gotten a very serious diagnosis and had been told that she was very good to consult with. My experience couldn't have been farther from that. I don't normally mind grumpy people or professionals who are eccentric and hard to get along with, but who are worthwhile to include on my team. However, I was treated in a very humiliating way by Dr Abessi, who for some reason is listed as a surgeon here, but is not as far as I know. I was vulnerable, in pain and very stressed with my health issues. I was led to believe she could help, if I could get past her personality. I didn't think that would be a problem, however it def was. She was dismissive of my concerns and that I was uncomfortable waiting on a closed cold exam room for an hour to see her, and being made to wait in a hospital gown (for no reason I was made aware of-my issues were internal and not subject to an external exam.) Hospital gowns may be necessary for certain procedures, but wasn't needed here, and made me feel more vulnerable and treated like my humanness didn't matter. It took away my feeling of personal dignity and comfort. Being naked except for a paper thin gown intensified my feelings helplessness due to my diagnosis and felt like I was being treated like an object instead of a human being. When she finally arrived she was insensitive, uncaring and extremely critical of me expressing my needs as a patient. I realized quickly that she was never going to be a good doctor for me, and I caution anyone who wants to have an open and caring dialogue with their doctor, to look elsewhere. Very upsetting experience that has taken a long time to even write this review about. I hope it helps someone avoid the painful and upsetting experience I had with Dr Abessi. Was very disappointed in seeing dr. Mitra. She and her office never called about my blood work but lied and said they did. Then she missed my virtual consultation and called randomly 45 minutes later. I said I can reschedule and she scolded me saying she sees 100’s of patients and can’t be on time. No one should be talked down to like that. Go see your “100s” of patients. Her bedside manner and clinical knowledge is awful and I will never return.

I had a new patient visit with Dr Abessi who came highly recommended by my neurologist. I waited for 35 minutes for an 8:30 am appointment. After some initial chit chat I asked if she had a sense of how long the appointment would be to which she responded âif you care about time, Iâm not the person for youâ. I then suggested that if thatâs the case, perhaps her office should let people know that when scheduling their appointments. She launched into a lecture about how she has 4,000 patients (Iâm not sure why that was relevant to my suggestion). When I said that common courtesy would dictate a simple apology for running late, she said, while thumping her chest to exaggerate each word, âIâm not saying sorry because Iâm not sorryâ. I have never encountered a more unprofessional, arrogant physician. Iâm married to a physician, was a medical malpractice defense attorney, and am friends with many physicians, and have never seen such behavior. 10/10 would not recommend.
Dr Abessi spent a lot of time with my wife explaining what test she was ordering, medicine and potential diagnosis. She is caring with Excellent manners. I highly recommend Dr Abessi!
I have never met a physician like Dr. Mitra Abessi, she literally has treated me as if I was part of her family! I’ve had numerous health challenges and for some years was lost in the minutia of going to various specialists without any improvement. She took charge of my case and went above and beyond working with referred doctors to help me obtain the right diagnosis. At this point, my whole family goes to her and enjoys the same benefits in dealing with such a genuine, caring doctor. I cannot recommend her enough! Thank you for everything Dr Abessi! Dr.Abessi has been my (and my husband’s) PCP for a few years now and I wouldn’t go to anyone else. She’s very thorough, always has recommendations for other specialists who are equally as good as her, and empathic. I’m lucky I found her and would highly recommend her to anyone else.
I have been seeing Dr Abessi for many years. I have followed her since her move from Belle Meade. I now drive almost an hour to see her and it is definitely worth my time. Dr Abessi is a direct, very thorough physician. She has always taken the time to explain things to me.I feel listened to and we together have found answers to what has been wrong with me. She has ordered necessary tests that are always followed up on with a treatment plan when the office receives reports. Dr Abessi has referred me to excellent specialists when needed. I trust her and feel comfortable in discussing all of my concerns. I feel blessed to have her as my doctor. Her office staff and nurses are professional, kind and caring. I made an initial appointment with Dr. Abessi at the high recommendation of a friend, for shoulder pain. Upon Dr. Abessi, she told me that I looked facially deformed due to a recent jaw surgery, and that she was surprised nobody had told me the 'truth of my appearance by now'. I had undergone extensive surgery to correct a breathing disorder and being told I was Deformed as a result was awful She said not to worry because there were plenty of good plastic surgeons in the area. I left in tears, and she called me an hour later to say that she didn't feel she was a good fit to be my new Primary Care Doctor due to my reaction to her comment. She did not check to see if I was okay. She only called with a very Defensive tone about my reaction to being called Deformed (when only asking about my shoulder). I certainly was NOT going to be returning to her anyway, but to call me to tell me that I was not a good fit because I cried at her comments, was beyond shocking. This was the worst experience I have ever had with any healthcare practitioner and it was humiliating. She did not help with my shoulder issue either. Her advice was to move to Hillsborough to see a particular Physical Therapist she liked, every day for 4 months and see what progress could be made. She specifically recommended moving near his office as she said that any driving commute to his office would aggravate my condition. After trying the PT she recommended, I felt no relief. What DID completely resolve my long standing shoulder issue was seeing an Osteopath weekly, and going on an anti-inflammatory medication.
I like Dr. Abessi. I also like the office staff. BUT. Today I am in excruciating pain. I called seeking steroids for inflammation of my sciatic nerve. They have written this scrip for me twice in the past. I explained that I wouldn't have a way to get to the office for another 4 days. They refused to do a virtual visit or call in the prescription for me citing that they can't assess my pain in a virtual visit. Are you KIDDING ME?! I wasn't seeking painkillers. I don't take them. I was seeking help from my physician. I won't be back. I am requesting that my insurance company find new PCP for me. I like Dr. Abessi. I also like the office staff. BUT. Excellent Doctor. Direct and to the point. I had a need to see a specialist and she was able to get the Doctor on the phone and have me seen the next day so I didn’t have to wait weeks.
Dr Abessi is my primary physician and she is everything you would hope for in a doctor. I completely trust her with my healthcare. She listens, is caring, and follows up directly with me. She is an excellent doctor!
I really liked Dr. Abessi when I met her and went to see her off and on along with her former colleague (at her former office in Belle Meade). Fast forward to my husband needing some concerns to be looked at and his doctor wasn’t available. I went in with him to the appointment because I wanted to make sure he didn’t forget to ask the important questions. I was shocked and disappointed as Dr. Abessi was quick, dismissive, and borderline rude to him. He left feeling terrible, and I felt worse for ever recommending her. I’m so glad she left our practice. From what I can see from other reviews, not much has changed.
Dr. Abessi is extremely knowledgeable and a real class act. She genuinely and deeply cares about her patients. I went to her after really struggling with some post covid symptoms. I was about a month out and still suffering from some very serious issues: gastrointestinal issues, terrible anxiety, serious insomnia, heart pain. She explained exactly what was going on and the neurological effects of covid. And she treated it with medications that immediately provided me some relief. I went to a few doctors before her and they found no real solutions. But after seeing Dr Abessi it feels good to be on the mend and getting back to being myself again. THANKS DR ABESSI !!!!!
She is a great doctor caring and very knowledgable. Would highly recommend.
Dr. Abessi went above and beyond when my healthy, 30 year old son contracted Covid19. Her quick thinking, and decisive action, kept him out of the hospital, prevented pneumonia, and God only knows what else! Despite his being in Queens at the time, she got the appropriate meds right to his door. I was out of state during all this, as my mother was in hospice. I’m forever grateful to Dr. Abessi for her expertise and compassion! She is simply the best!!
One star is too many. She kept my 91 year old mother with a broken hand waiting for 40 minutes. She then aggressively pointed and with a hostile, raised voice said that if we want a doctor that is on time, we need to go somewhere else. That she’d be ‘happy’ to refer us to another doctor. My mom has been going to that doctor’s office for over 40 years. She’s 91. Dr. Abessi was completely unprofessional and unbelievably rude. When she finally stopped her tirade and looked at my mother’s injuries it was a continuation of rude remarks about how the ER wrapped her hand and that she wouldn’t touch it. (Which is FINE, just don’t be so awful about it.) I can overlook a bad bedside manner (as we have since Dr. Abessi came on board there) if the medical treatment itself is effective, but it wasn’t. Dr. Abessi approaches treatment from a defensive point of view - as if every appointment is a liability - a future lawsuit. The patient is guilty until proven innocent. In a positive note, she did call Mid Jersey Orthopedics to get my mom in that day. (Btw Mid Jersey was excellent) One star is too many. Dr. Abessi is extremely unprofessional and rude. She came to Whitehouse Family medicine and ruined it by creating a hostile environment. So many patients have left since Dr. Kelsey, Dr. DeTata and all the PAs left. It terrible to hear how she treats elderly and loyal patients. I know there have been many complaints, it’s a shame that no one is listening and this is why patients have to move their records to new offices. Just started looking for a new primary care physician after a terrible experience with Dr Abessi. She's extremely negative and has no empathy towards her patients.
Terrible...no empathy for her patients with a hostile attitude.
I am a little surprised with the negative reviews. Based on my first visit with Dr. Abessi, I immediately felt like I was in good hands. She was attentive, very knowledgeable, and thorough. I thought she was so great that I went out of my way to tell my wife she should start seeing her (not usually something I would do). Anyway, it was only one visit but I look forward to my next. I'll be sure to update then.

I have being seeing Dr. Abessi for 7 years now, and have followed her to Whitehouse Station, and now my two daughters see her as well. She is funny, polite, extremely knowledgeable. She takes her time, listens to her patients, is very thorough and always does the right thing. She refers us to specialists who are always excellent. Love Dr. Abessi!

My first visit with Dr. Abessi. She is no-nonsense, gets right to the review and examination. At first I wasn't sure I liked her style, they realized she may be the best doctor I've ever visited. Her only concern is the best treatment of the patient. She then did something almost no doctor I've known has ever done...she verbalized how she will take care of my health. She was honest and reassuring. I feel lucky to have met her. My first visit with Dr. Abessi. She is no-nonsense, gets right to the review and examination. I’ve been Dr. Abessi’s patient for 9 years. I met her when she was in her Belle Mead office. She is a very intelligent and caring doctor who will ALWAYS do the right thing for her patient. Beware drug addicts - you will be disappointed. Her exams are thorough and I always leave her office feeling that I am being taken care of. Her staff at this office seem nice. I liked her previous staff more.

Dr. Abessi has been my doctor for 8 years. I have followed her to her Whitehouse Station location. She is intelligent, thoughtful, and pays attention to detail.
Be sure to leave plenty of extra time for your visit. She will spend 90% of your visit time talking about herself and her family of gifted physicians. In the end she offered virtually no relief for a major back injury. Arrogant without the skills to back it up. Stay away.

I love Dr. Abessi!! She is very thorough, very interested in medical and family history and persona habits, to better understand your health. She also calls you personally to go over your lab results, she doesn't just have the receptionist do it. She is great!

Dr. Abessi took care of my husband and I for 10 years. Unfortunately, we had to move away. Dr. Abessi is a very thorough, compassionate and caring doctor. When you are with her, you have her full attention. She is accessible and provides great advice. The office staff is great too.
