Dr Harkins services are great, but are shadowed by poor communication and office performance

IT IS BAD ENOUGH THAT THERE IS A WAITING LIST OF ATLEAST 6 MONTHS AT DR. HARKINS TO SCHEDULE YOUR APPT. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME SCHEDULING 6 MONTHS ADVANCE JUST TO BE TOLD TO RESCHEDULE. DONT BOTHER CALLING BECAUSE THEY DONT ANSWER THE PHONE. I WAS HOPING THE REVIEWS WERE NOT TRUE. I GUESS ITS MY FAULT FOR EXERCISING PRIOR TO THIS APPT AND MY TEMP WAS AT 100. NOT EVEN A HIGH FEVER! A waste of months of my life. And I agree with the other reviews, her office staff is terrible.

I can't speak for Dr. Harkins directly but her office staff and her office policies are atrocious. I contacted them recently to correct a payment that erroneously went to collections. I had no knowledge of the account as my wife handles all of that. When I found the delinquent account on Credit Karma I immediately paid it it in full. Despite paying the account in full the office refuses to remove it from my credit report. I have notified them in writing of my intent to seek legal counsel. If they do not remove these derogatory marks from my credit I intend to file suit in district court under the Fair Debt Collection Act, Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. I find Dr. Harkins and her associates to be very knowledgeable and ready to listen to all information/concerns. It can take a while to get an appointment but it is a small practice and worth the wait. I believe the office staff is professional and attentive. You do have to leave voicemails for refills but they have always responded within 48 hrs. This may require some planning and diligence on the parent side, but again it is a small practice and I believe they do their best. Dr. Harkins, herself, was very warm and professional with both of my children. Unfortunately, her office staff likes to avoid patients as much as possible, unless it’s through email. I was charged for a “no show” fee of $150 for an appointment I was told my daughter didn’t need. To expand on this: My son and daughter were both given the same day appointment (six months in advance) but my daughter was able to get an appointment five months earlier. I went to that appointment, was told her problem areas, but was told I did not need to worry about any further diagnosis or study. Fast forward five months to my son’s appointment, which was approached differently and who had multiple appointments from that point on (which I made to every single one)and had a proper diagnosis. At the second to last appointment I was made aware of my daughter’s “no show” late fee and I had discussed it saying “no, she did not need any further appointments, I was just told to come for my son.” To which I was told “oh, I see, we will take care of that.” Fast forward a year later to where I see my husband’s credit score hit by 40 points due to this charge being sent to collections. Not only did I not receive a single phone call, they said they sent a letter of the charge (at our old address) but the letter was sent back so they emailed me (which was sent to my junk mail box). I have spent the past two weeks EMAILING billing because they can’t call me (I’m sure they have my phone number on file) only to be told “we may not be able to pull it from collections” after they had made their error. I really wish I could make a better review for this office because I really liked Dr. Harkins and some of her staff but this whole mess has just made me NEVER want to visit that office ever again. They sent me to collections for a no show fee. Here’s the thing though they forgot to take my child off the schedule after THEY told me my child did not need another appointment. Never called nothing. Just sent me to collections. You can’t call the office to talk to anyone it’s all through email. Good luck getting a email back. When I finally got a email back and they admitted to their mistake they said they might not be able to report their mistake to the collections service because it had been in collections to long. I called them the moment my credit monitoring service notified me. I will be posting negative comments weekly until this is resolved on all platforms. Edit. They have since corrected the issue. The wait for the initial appointment can be long but I am happy with the results of all the testing. We are now on 2x a year visits and my son continues to approve with their guidance.

Wonderful, straight forward, simple.

I like really Dr Harkins and the staff too. Dr Harkins is so knowledgeable. The office has there stuff together and I really liked the testing process and the thorough detailed reports.

5 stars, 5 stars, 5 stars, 5 stars, etc etc. You can almost be guaranteed that's false. No one ever has truly all 5 stars. In fact, my experience with Dr. Harkins is quite the opposite of most these reviews. In several visits for my son, not once did he ever see Dr. Harkins. He only saw an NP. Not once was I able to actually speak to Dr. Harkins, ever. My son was referred to her by a counselor so I spoke to her about the inability to communicate directly with the Dr. The counselor called her office and attempted to speak to Dr. Harkins. The staff wouldn't connect the counselor to Dr. Harkins. When questioned about it, saying "not even one clinician to another?", she still was not able to speak directly to Dr. Harkins. I needed a refill for some ADHD meds, and couldn't wait until the following week. They charged me $50 for an office visit to walk in to the front desk and pick up a refill prescription. Are you freaking serious? No chance in ^&*( these 5 star reviews are true. In fact, I've even begun to question whether or not Dr. Harkins is even still alive. I've actually wondered if she died at the office and the staff just keep the office running as though she is still there. My son has seen Dr. Harkins for more than 3 years. My issue is not with Dr. Harkins (or her associates) competence, but with the way in which she manages her practice. I've read these other reviews and I disagree. My son has been in Harkins care for over 3 years. Rx refills aren't charged outside an appt if you follow procedures. I highly recommend this practice.

Excellent communication with Dr.Harkins and her staff thru the years. Teresa her NP is excellent and very proactive with her patients. My son loves to see Dr. Harkins office because they make him feel welcome and special.

I agree with the other negative reviews. The staff was rotten when we were there 5 years ago. We moved since, out of state. I will say she did a wonderful comprehensive evaluation whom everyone I've ever shared it with complimented how concise. I also was upset enough to find someone else, but could find no one willing to take new patients whose mom chose not to vaccinate.

Very attentive and ready to answer any questions you may have about your child's treatment/therapy. Excellent care and professionalism.

My son has been in their office's care just since the end of 2015. Honestly, I can't give a review of Dr Harkins, herself, as we have not ever even met her. My son has seen 2 different nurse practitioners in his 2 visits to the office. Fortunately, we had a complete evaluation by a clinical psychologist before going to her office so we were able to get a prescription from Harkins staff. Can't talk to a staff member if you call. Only leave messages on a voicemail. VERY POOR. Looking for new.

My son has seen Dr. Harkins for more than 3 years. My issue is not with Dr. Harkins (or her associates) competence, but with the way in which she manages her practice. The office staff is consistently rude, lacks empathy and rarely smiles. The only way to speak with someone is to leave a message. According to the recording, they have been experiencing high call volume (for the past 3 years). They charge for prescription refills if you don't have an appt. We've looking for a new doctor.
