Reviews for Paul James Tolentino
In 2005 Dr Toletino did a discectomy on me 3 day after my surgery the pain was back in my leg the MRI was negative but he listen to me. The disc had reherniated and embedded inside the nerve. Thank you Dr. T for giving me my life back.
Went to Dr .Tolentino with Severe Back pain Thay Scheduled MRI Called next day asked if i wonted to come in that day to see doctor yes i did. and he recommended Surgery 10 day later i had surgery Dr Tolentino and his staff including hospital were verry professional and courteous. Now 6 weeks later I am 98% Pain Free Thank You
I had taken a bad fall the last of July hitting my head on the tile floor. Made a trip to the emergency room wanting to be checked for a concussion or brain bleed. The scan of my head showed neither was present. Over a period of 2 months I developed headaches, dizziness and nausea. Returning to the emergency room the last of September another scan showed a massive hematoma on the right side and a smaller one on the left side. Dr. Tolentino was on call and told me what needed to be done. I had brain surgery 2 days later where both sides were cleaned out. 2 days later I was having some issues with my left side and had another surgery on the right side. After several days in ICU and the therapy unit I was released, after several follow up visits and scans, 2 months later, I’ve had a full recovery and doing great. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Tolentino and his staff. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t think I would be here now.
I had a brain tumor that was successfully removed by Dr Tolentino. I truly believe that he with God’s help saved my life. I should not be here but 12 years later I’m still going strong. I have recommended him to numerous people. He truly cares about his patients.
Tolentino is a terrible surgeon. He whispers about his patients weight and physical appearance to his staff. He clearly does not respect his patients and his surgical abilities are severely lacking.
He did my back surgery. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Tolentino performed major neck surgery on my husband. Despite how extensive the procedure was, Dr Tolentino was attentive, caring and meticulous. He made us feel cared for and addressed every concern with kindness and compassion. Very lucky to have him in our area.
I was having several things going on in my cervical spine area. My family doctor said I needed to see a neurosurgeon. I made an appointment with Dr. Tolentino’s office. It was going to be about a 3 week wait to see him, which didn’t sound that bad really. Then, a few days after I had made the appointment, Dr. Tolentino’s office called with a cancellation and got me in about 2 weeks earlier! My husband & I met with Dr Tolentino & his assistant. He explained what was going on with the MRI my family Dr had sent. He told us that it was very serious and would require surgery. He was confident that he could help me. So, I had to have several pre-surgery tests done to be sure I was cleared for the surgery. I had the surgery less than a month from when I initially contacted the office. The surgery went well. The rehab went very well. My symptoms have improved a lot. I’m so thankful to everyone at Dr. Tolentino’s office for the excellent care I received!!
excellent experience before and after and answered all my questions

Dr. Tolentino is very professional he did surgery on my sister and I was amazed at how concerned he is about his patients. He and his staff are great! If I ever need help I will be calling him and would recommend him to everybody.
Dr. Tolentino performed spinal surgery on my neck making it possible for me to have a second chance at life with less pain and more movement.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Tollentino. He performed back surgery on my mom years ago and it was very successful. He also performed fusion back surgery on my husband. The surgery itself was successful, but my husband had other complications later that were life threatening. Dr. Tollentino was there everyday to check on him and to make sure he was receiving the best treatment. Several years later he removed a tumor from my brain, which was also amazingly successful. He is highly intelligent and yet shows a very compassionate human side that is so important when your life in on the line. He has a good team with him who treat people with dignity and respect. I believe GOD has blessed Dr. Tollentino to be gifted in his field, and I'm thankful he is in Southeast MO.
Dr. Tolentino and his staff are wonderful. They run the office with precision and efficiency. Dr. Tolentino and his staff are very knowledgeable, polite, and professional. Never once did I feel like I was being pressured into surgery. I was given all information and treatment options available. I would definitely recommend Dr. Tolentino to friends, family, and strangers alike! *I had a disc herniation at the L5 and S1 vertebrae. It was compressing the S1 nerve and it resulted in numbness. I tried PT, chiropractors, and a steroid injection in an attempt to not have surgery. Unfortunately I was not going to be able to get the numbness out of my foot with out surgery. I opted to have it. Dr. Tolentino took great care of me. The surgery went well. I am currently 7 weeks post op on my way to complete recovery.
Dr Tolentino has been amazing! He has helped me get my life back after suffering with back pain! My numbness in my left leg was gone after I woke up from surgery! His staff are completely professional & go above and beyond for their patients! I’m so thankful to get to have this get neurosurgeon take care of me! He has definitely been a blessing to me & my family! Thanks to him I’ll be back in action working in the frontline of the healthcare field!
Very unprofessional. Pretty much rushed through his review of my mri and sent me out the door. Would not let me a get a word in on what I was going through, didn’t even shut the door or sit down after he entered the room. Told me me there was no reason for me to be in pain after showing me my lower disc was almost completely degenerated. Last words were “good luck nice to meet you”. Would not wish this dr on my worst enemy!!!

I came to the RBS with terrible pain in my lower back. An MRI was reviewed and my problem was detected. I was shown the specific problem and explained what was needed to fix it. The surgery was scheduled rather quickly and I was fixed. Been mainly pain free since. During this time Dr.Tolentino and his staff were great. Cordial and respectful making sure I understood what was taking place and why.
Dr. Tolentino has performed the PLIF procedure on our backs and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. We were both in excruciating pain before the procedure and now feel like we have our normal life back. We followed his instructions, threw the pain pills away and started walking like he told us. It was difficult at first, but Jerry has reached a goal of 3 miles and I am up to 2 miles. Six months after my surgery, I walked in my first 5K and did great. We love the doctor and his office staff, especially Jake. He followed us through our recovery and he always seems happy to see us and talk about hunting and fishing. I would recommend Dr. Tolentino and his staff to anyone suffering with chronic back or neck pain.
I'd rank him lower if it would let me. During this time of global crisis, paul chose to add on elective cases against the advice of the surgeon general, cdc, and american college of surgeons. I've been a nurse for a long time and Paul falsely claims these cases are emergent putting the hospital's supply of PPE at risk. While most surgeons around the country have cancelled cases, he has tried everything to add on surgeries. This puts not only staff at a higher risk but his patients. His "Ethics" are lacking at best.
Dr. Tolentino has operated on my back twice in the last 10 years and both times it was a complete success. I have heard stories of people going to other surgeons and having more problems after the surgery than before, but not Dr. Tolentino, he also will try all other avenues of treatment before recommending surgery. I sing his praises every chance I get and have recommended him to 2 people in the last month. He is a credit to his profession.
Dr. T is wonderful. He changed my husband's life and now he can live pain free. He was honest with us from the beginning about the life changes my husband would have to make. We made the right decision choosing Dr. T.
I was treated like I was royalty! I was treated as if I was their long lost mother. I have already recommended this practice to several people already. I would like to especially recognize Amanda. She is the one you call for questions after surgery. She was so knowledgeable and caring. I knew she would resolve questions completely. Dr Tolentino was the most helpful surgeon I have ever had. He has a way of listening and explaining things that answered all my questions right away. The staff whole office staff made me comfortable each time I interacted with them.
I have highly recommended Dr. Tolentino to several friends and people in my community. I have had several surgeries with him and Southeast Hospital and have been completely satisfied. Dr. Tolentino is very patient and answers all my questions. I am very thankful for his expertise. I had a quick recovery. His staff is caring and helpful. I have never had a long wait to get in to see him or wait in the lobby. If I ever had to have surgery again he would be my first and only choice as a physician.
Dr Tolentino helped me get out of the chronic pain I was in and back to my normal life. I am forever thankful for him and his staff for all the kind and wonderful care I have received in all my visits and surgery.
Dr Tolentino is probaby very good at his job. However, his aftercare sucks! He's a walking ego. When I asked him if it was normal to have weakness in my arm following cervical spine surgery, he literally threw a tantrum. I was shocked at his unprofessional behavior. I vowed he would never have another opportunity to speak to me that way again. I will never go back nor recommend him for that reason.
My mother has been in constant pain due to arthritis in her upper back, along with previous back surgery pain. During her last visit, Dr. Tolentino (who had been fine up to that point) mentioned that he had another appointment, refused to listen to her, shut her up at various times, reached the point of yelling, and basically told her that she was getting older, pain was going to happen, and to deal with it. If there was nothing to be done, that's fine and we would've accepted it. But his rudeness and uncaring attitude (to the point that my mother was crying) was completely uncalled for.

Dr. Tolentino and his staff.. where professional and helped me with anything questions I had. I am a 35 year old male that needed a 2 level cervical fusion.. today has been one year and I feel like I never had any surgery. I was back at work 2 weeks after the surgery and had no pain or issues after the first month post surgery. I will not recommend any other practice or group.

People say you must go to St. Louis to get a good neurologist. This is simply not true. Dr. Tolentino is an excellent doctor that cares about his patients. He’ll take as much time as you need to answer any questions you might have, He doesn’t make you sit and wait for long periods of time, when you’re already hurting, when you have an appointment .His staff is so helpful to if you need help filling out papers or have any questions. They always have a smile for you. He’s not knife happy, he does everything he can to get out of having to do surgery. Dr. Tolentino is in general just a caring, person that puts his patience first. If your looking for a neurosurgeon look no further, you’ve found the best. (In my opinion ) People say you must go to St. Louis to get a good neurologist. This is simply not true. I was referred to Dr. Tolentino by my primary care provider, who said that Dr. Tolentino would be his own choice if he needed back surgery. All the staff and healthcare providers at Regional Brain and Spine were attentive, polite, and professional. My surgery went well and I had a good hospital experience. I was very impressed with the care I received from Dr. Tolentino and his assistants. Dr. Tolentino is quite a skillful surgeon. I followed his post-surgery instructions carefully and am back to my normal activities without the constant pain I've endured for years.
Dr.Tolentino did surgery on my back in Oct of 2017. The surgery didn't help. To top it off Dr.Tolentino blamed me for the bad results and said it was my fault for not walking 5 miles a day. I tried to explain to him that I couldn't walk 5 miles as it put pressure on the nerves in my back. I also told him I had a bad hip. He acted like I was crazy and said I was making it up (I actually had that hip replaces in March of 2018) He talked to me like I was a dog. I was not able to give him a 1 star.
Amazing, life changing, highly recommend Dr. Tolentino!
Dr. Tolentino is simply the best around. At the age of 34, I had been dealing with strong nerve pain and lower back pain for months before being referred to him. After some test and him explaining to me very clearly what could be done, I chose to have lower back fusion. I completed physical therapy not long after. Now a little over a year since surgery, and 35, I'm feeling great. I'm able to get up and move pain free.
I’m a 36 year old male with severe back pain for over a year. As a farmer my job is very physical and I put off going to a Dr as long as I could. When I finally went Dr. Tolentino told me I had a bulging disc and recommended surgery. I was afraid I would miss too much work during planting season he told me I would be up and going in two weeks. He was wrong. I was back at work in ten days after a microdiscectomy. Thank you Dr. Tolentino and staff. Amazing results.
He was a god send to me, so thankful for his help! One of the best we have in this area, so caring and kind to his patients and their family!
Dr Tolentino and his staff are amazing. Dr Tolentino truly cares about his patients. I had a back surgery done that went bad and the original surgeon kept excusing it off as I got worse and more sever pain and immobilized. Finally a pain management Dr requested a kilogram and a screw was pressing in sciatic nerve. The original Dr still said that wasn't it a month later the original Dr had me in his office and he had called Dr Tolentino. Dr Tolentino went back in replaced all my screws and rods cleaned up the mess I was left with from the first surgery. I have never looked back at Dr Tolentino took me as his patient from then on. Everyone I know that has had Dr Tolentino has had great success. I thank God for Dr Tolentino and his staff. Dr Tolentino and his staff are amazing. Dr Tolentino truly cares about his patients. Very good doctor. He eliminated all my pain with surgery. A caring man very dedicated to his practice.
Dr. Tolentino is very professional yet has a kind bedside manner. He is passionate about his career and is knowledgeable in his field. I had extreme, excruciating pain due to a bone spur that was wrapped around a herniated disc and was pressing against my sciatica nerve. I could walk about 8 steps before having to sit because the pain was unbearable. Dr. Tolentino did a microdiscectomy for me and I am pain free and back to walking 2-3 miles 3 days a week.

I am extremely satisfied by my diagnosis, care and surgery performed by Dr. Tolentino and his staff. It was a difficult decision to have surgery, since I am a young patient but I am so thankful I did. I had full trust in Dr. Tolentino and his staff and would recommend them to anyone that is willing to listen and perform their instructions. I am pain free and feel the best I ever have!

I can not say enough good things about Dr. Tolentino. From the first visit, surgery and follow up was all 100%. I would and have referred Dr. Tolentino to friends & family. Very professional and also pleasant to speak with about my health concerns and needs. South East is lucky to have a surgeon like him.
Dr. Tolentino fixed my bulged discs and got me feeling better than I have in 5+ years. As a 22 year old I was hesitant to have surgery, but Dr. Tolentino explained to me how much he could improve my life, and he really did. I got up two hours after surgery with NO PAIN! He is a great doctor who really cares about his patients.

My 82 year old Mother is a patient of Dr. Tolentino's, we can not express how grateful we are for the excellent care she has received from Dr. Tolentino and his entire staff. Dr. Tolentino took the time to explain her surgical procedures in detail and in a way we could easily understand so that we were able to make an educated decision. Presurgery her pain was a 12 - post surgery her back pain is 0 - my Mother is so happy again, she has a whole new lease on life! Thank you, Dixie & Lori Cook

Dr. Tolentio and his staff were an example of the way a heath care office should be ran. They were prompt for all appointments, kept me informed and included me in the decision making of my care and overall were very efficient and were the consummate professionals. I would highly recommend Dr. Tolentino and his staff.

Dr. Tolentino was personable as well as professional. He made it easy to discuss any questions. His staff was also kind and very helpful. I had a lot of confidence in Dr. Tolentino because I had heard very good things about him. I was happy with his surgical skills and the results of the surgery.
