Dr. Philemon D Chang

When I saw Dr Chang he was much younger... as was I. Hopefully he's stopped having so much pride in his infallibility. Back when I saw him the new way of treating diabetics was to put them on 5 shots per day of R insulin. at that time I'd been having the desired results of that treatment from one shot per day of self mixed R and N insulins. I also already had the potential side effects of the new treatment (frequent episodes of hypoglycemia). Back then (mid 1990s) the mew method gave many outstanding results. But for me it probably would have wound up killing me. I could tell my refusal to use his new method hurt his pride. He didn't ask me why I refused the new method, merely told me that he thought I needed to find another doctor. I sincerely hope that he's learned to pay more attention to the thoughts of his patients. I have been diabetic since I was 1 year, 4 months old. Granted, it's been more than 20 years since I've been acquainted with Dr Chang. Hopefully he's lost some of his arrogance since that time. Back in the mid 1990's he suggested to me, a type 1 diabetic since 1966, a change in my insulin dosing that would have been quite frankly stupid This was around the time that docs figured out that many diabetic patients respond better to 5 shots per day of regular insulin (R). I understand that for many this would be wise...but not for me. I was (and still am) using 1 shot per day of a mixture of R and N insulin, which gave me the same normal A1C scores and identical instances of occasional hypoglycemia. Only a fool fixes something that isn't broken
