Dr. Philip Gerlach Coogan

Dr. Coogan has performed three surgeries on me for Dupuytrens Contracture. The first two were in 2017 and achieved excellent results. My third surgery was 2023 and once again I have been overjoyed with the result. I am a lifelong working musician as a Multi-Keyboardist and Trumpet player. Dr. Coogan’s treatments and abilities have allowed me to continue my career. So happy my journey landed me on the right Doctor! I honestly could not be more pleased! Dr. Coogan was helpful, Professional, kind and efficient dealing with my injury. He made very clear what my situation was, and gave me very clear choices about treatment. When he did the treatment himself, it was excellent, quick, and very helpful to my situation. I would go to Dr. Coogan anytime.

The staff was nice ,and professional as well as the Doctor.

No wait time to get an appointment! Ordered X-rays before he saw me. Discussed the results thoroughly and upon examination offered the least invasive treatment to begin with. Asked me to return next week to check my progress. He has a great bedside manner and I highly recommend him as he has done carpal tunnel releases on both my hands!

I was very pleased with the help I received from dr Coogan on my carpel tunnel and thumb joint. I am pain free 2 days later.

Dr Coogan has helped me take care of problems with my hands, elbow and even a difficult infection above my elbow due to brushing up to some salt water barnacles over a span of 20 years. I broke my arm while vacationing in another state and chose to return to Nashville after leaving the ER to see Dr. Coogan because of the exceptional experience I enjoyed with him and his team when he fixed a broken arm for me 15 years ago. Dr. Coogan is incredibly competent and kindly reassuring regarding both his surgery skills and bedside manner. I do not hesitate to recommend Dr Coogan to my friends and family who suffer from hand or arm issues. He is the best!

Disappointed he did not put cast on correctly. Had to be replaced in first 24 hrs.

Dr. Phil was courteous and kind. He explained things well, and he asked me questions throughout the visit to make sure that I understood all that he was saying. It was obvious that he was concerned about my comfort and wellbeing.

Dr Coogan listened to my concerns and health issues. He offered the best approach toward improving my health. He was very patient and understanding. The very first thing I noticed, his bedside manners. Very polite and respectful of me.

Dr Coogan is awesome! He will offer you the best choices for treatment and explain everything to you. He has a top notch team as well. In 2019 he did surgery on my wrist and I have no issues today because of him.

Dr. COOGAN is a very good listener and takes his time with patients. He fixed my messed up finger with no surgery, only a splint. I did not think it would work, but I followed his directions, and the result was perfect. I will go to him again.

Dr. Coogan has been very helpful with the issues and concerns that I have with my hand. He was recommended by my wife, who had hand surgery a few years ago. Her results were excellent, and I highly recommend him.

When dealing with Dr. Coogan and his staff there at TOA, I consistently felt cared for and secure. Dr. Coogan’s knowledge and attention to detail was very much appreciated as was his friendly yet professional manner. The results of my bilateral carpal tunnel surgery yielded amazing results with significant improvements in function in both of my hands. One hand was questionable as to possibility of success due to significant limitations, but extremely positive results occurred. Significant improvements have been seen in carrying out daily activities such as opening containers, manipulating fasteners, and especially in fixing my granddaughters’ hair. I would highly recommend Dr. Coogan to minimize any hand difficulties.

Very sensitive to a health issue I have. Went out of his way to help me deal with it after carpal tunnel surgery. Very little discomfort after surgery.

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Coogan and I was told I would need to have my medical records at the time of my appointment. I called my previous hand surgeon's office and they told me I could have Dr. Coogan's office fax over a request for my medical records without having to sign a release because it was going from one provider to another. I called back to Dr. Coogan's office and spoke to the scheduler who said she would not send a fax for me. She told me they leave it up to the patient. I told her my hands are really bad and that I don't have a fax. She did not care and told me I would either have to come into the office and sign a release form or get the records myself. It doesn't matter how good the doctor is if his staff won't work with you and are unfriendly. I canceled my appointment and must now find another doctor to see.

Dr. Coogan performed surgery on my detached tendon on my left hand. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I had complete recovery and no pain. I would highly recommend him.

It's total ridiculous that these doctors are not in every insurance network. You know why? They are greedy money hungry people. Dr. Coogan was my my doctor 15 years ago when I had great insurance. Now the network I am in now doesn't pay enough for him to enjoy his Mercedes and 2 million dollar home. Yep they forget about the little people. Ten years ago I underwent trapezium replacement (CMC Arthroplasty) on my left thumb and it was a spectacular success (very mild chronic pain as expected but almost full pinching power restored. Unfortunately I need to do the right hand now (nervous as I'm right handed) and I'm confident Dr "Maestro" Coogen will perform his magic again.

I have the pleasure of being a patient of Dr. Coogans. I have RA and it is pretty advanced and I need/needed to have a few surgeries to fix me up. Dr.Coogan has been great!! I had to have my wrist fused and carpal tunnel and it isn’t a fun surgery to say the least but the dr has been excellent. Highly recommend him. He has an excellent bedside manner and seems like he genuinely cares about you and double checks on you to make sure you are good and taken care of. Quiet, personable, competent surgeon. He gives you all options available and will even suggest alternatives to surgery before jointly reaching a decision with you. If you have questions because your surgery date, he gladly sees you again to make sure you are coming with every aspect of the surgery.

Dr Coogan was very helpful in explaining what was going on with my hand as well offered great options for treatment.

Each step of my initial visit to see Dr. Coogan was positive and encouraging. The entire team was quite efficient as well as friendly. This experience helped ease any concerns for my upcoming surgery.

Very caring thorough and wise

Dr. Coogan is highly intelligent, highly educated, and one of the most compassionate people I have ever encountered. Top drawer all the way!

Dr. Coogan is a great surgeon as well as very kind and considerate. I was/am glad to be his patient. The staff is excellent…happy and glad to be of service.

I brought my son in for an injured finger. Dr. Coogan was friendly as always and had him fixed up in no time!

I went to see him for a second opinion. Had to go back on two separate days because my MRI results were not back-after I sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes. At the second appointment to hear the results of my MRI, he entered the room without saying anything-no good morning, etc. He asked where my hand was hurting and I showed him the various spots. He then gave me a 2 minute lecture on how he is a qualified hand surgeon who just can’t operate on multiple locations, etc. He was very condescending and patronizing. I left without really knowing why my hand/wrist hurts or a possible solution. He just read me the MRI results. I’m sure he is a good surgeon but I won’t find out. Terrible experience.

Friendly efficient and knowledgeable.

Dr. Coogan is so understanding and knowledgeable. The first time I saw him was for a Tennis Elbow injection and it was a wonderful experience. I recently had an injury and dislocated one of my fingers. He’s so easy to communicate with and puts you at ease. Always soothing the situation at hand. I would recommend Dr. Coogan to all my family and friends!! Great job Dr. Coogan.

First time seeing Dr. Coogan but I would recommend him. He is very through and takes time to explain everything.

Dr Coogan, his staff and the personnel at the ambulatory surgical facility were pleasant, competent and professional in their manner.

Everyone was so nice and professional from the receptionist to Dr. Coogan. The nurse and Dr. Coogan made me feel comfortable and he really listened to my concerns. Dr. Coogan allowed me to make the final decision for my treatment and he was pleased at my progress. I would recommend TOA and Dr. Coogan’s office to anyone who asked.

Dr. Coogan is very nice and detailed. As a new patient needing immediate wrist surgery, he made sure I understood what was going to take place. My follow up...very professional and nice. The whole experience has been great, great team working behind the scenes too!

It was the first time I visited Dr. Coogan. My first impression was that he's knowledgeable, professional and most important to me approachable. I have a return visit scheduled soon, hopefully we'll come up with a treatment plan for my ailment. The cortisone shot I received and the brace have helped my wrist considerably. I'm confident he'll be able to help me once he knows exactly what's going on with the rest of my arm.

Dr. Coogan is kind, professional and has kept the mobility in my hands. I’m able to have hobbies and use my hands pain free. He gives treatment options and we go forward with a plan. I don’t have to take medication to relieve pain. He’s an excellent diagnostician gets to the cause of pain, explains and moves forward with a plan we both choose. The best outcome always for me and friends that have seen him as well.

The office is extremely clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Even though during my visits the office was very busy, it didn't take long to be seen. Very professional experience and environment.

I had a wonderful experience at TOA with Dr. Coogan and his staff. I would highly recommend them. My surgical procedure was completed, everything went well from start to finish and the end result exceeded my expectations. Thank you Dr. Coogan and TOA.

After I badley broke my wrist last year. It hade to be surgically plated and screwed. Everything went well but I did develop carpal tunnel, as I was warned about the possibility. Also one of the screws did create a problem. After meeting with Dr. Coogan the decision was made to remove the hardware and do a carpal tunnel release. Dr Coogan listen to me and my concerns and answers all my questions. He did the surgery and I'm happy to say I had no pain after the surgery. Just a week after surgery my wrist feels so much better. My surgery experience was great. Everyone on the staff at the surgery center was amazing from the intake personnel to the recovery nurses. I appreciate everyone’s hard work and attentiveness.
