Dr. Cottrell and his staff are top-notch, and the facility is beautiful and even has games for the kids. I have been bringing my kids here for a decade and highly recommend it!

Leaving 1 star because it wont let me leave a review without it. The front desk and dental hygienists are very friendly but thats about the only good thing I can say. I went in for a wisdom teeth extraction and was told I wouldn’t have to pay out of pocket because one of the teeth was infected making it an emergency surgery. Exactly a year later, and I am hit with a bill for almost $800. While the cost is annoying, the real thing that upsets me is that I was mislead by whoever took care of me that day. Went to this office because of a tooth Ache, an X-ray was taken the Dentist came in and pulled my wisdom tooth which was horrible with all the back and forth. I figured the dentist looked at the X-ray and determined my wisdom tooth was the causing pain. After the numbing medication wore off the pain was off the charts. The pain I endured over 3 days cause me to see another dentist. Come to find out one the teeth in front of my wisdom tooth was infected. I never got a good explanation from the Dentist as to why my wisdom tooth was pulled and the infected tooth ignored. Terrified of the dentist due to a bad experience. Dr. Cottrell made me feel so at ease and the staff members were just as great. I only wish I had found your office much sooner. I will definitely be coming back and recommend to all who are looking for a dentist.

IF I could give you a "O" rating that would fit the experience I had as a new patient...called office early morning to get a stronger pain medication because what I was taking was not working and said dr call me back in 30 min well its been 6hr no phone call from dr and was supposed to send my xray to another dr and that never got done for my appt and now i have to spend more $$ for another xray...Then when i call the office they are all gone till Monday morning so needless to say obviously they dont care what there patients are experiencing ???????????? My husband has had a pay cut with his job his position has been desolved at work and tried to tell this to the dentist that is when he threated us with Child protection services if we didn't get the work done .And because he is way over priced we are on a severely reduced income, to what my husband was making 10 year's ago. And yet he uses intimidation by threating his patients with Child protection services just because he thinks that we are neglecting our child's teeth that needs work because of having cavities. We made an appointment knowing that we were out-of-network consumers. The wait was short, considering we had an appointment and we were only 5 minutes early. My child goes back, she in my hand, and receives a normal cleaning. We’re told she needs X-Rays, which was probably true(assuming). My dentist would have said the same, I assure you. She receives m her cleaning and X-Rays. After her cleaning, Dr. Cottrell views my daughter for all of possibly 1 minute and walks off. While walking off, he finally has states, “she’s okay, Dad, no cavities,” about 5 yds from me. The hygienist completes the final cleaning and picking. Unprofessional, to say the least. I finally go to pay, knowing it would be more than if we were in network. I just would have expected it to be a little more personable, considering my own DDS would come in, do the final inspections, pick off the plaque, and give a consultation on what needs to be done next(some may argue that it’s because it’s a cheap dentist, however, I’ll argue it’s one of the top dentists in Chesterfield, VA). My point is that my daughter will not be able to build a rapport with this dentist. She is a number for this place, not a customer. It seems to be about fiscal gain. There’s way too much unnecessary technology. It seems to be that there is a lack of being personable, and a need to pay for the place. Extremely nice facility and a super efficient and Courteous staff! They were able to fit me in last minute twice and the staff stayed late to make sure I didn’t go home in pain. Then the dentist called to check on me a few hours later. Without a doubt the best dental experience of my life!!! Dr. Cottrell you better pay out Christmas bonus to your great employees. Friendly & welcoming - the hygienist (I don’t remember her first name) and Dr. Cottrell had me laughing during my visit which many cannot say about a visit to the dentist. They were very knowledgeable and explained what was being done, what findings meant, and the next steps that were needed. I’ve always enjoyed the dentist for cleanings and haven’t had a bad experience except for the last two times at a different practice, which really had me upset and worried about future care. I have had extensive surgery prior to seeing Dr. Cottrel and it has never been successful. I have been to him several times for consultations and one visit with him, without having to be heavily sedated, and I am on my way to having a smile again. He is honest about what does and does not need to occur. There is no unnecessary procedures performed to extend the treatment time and cost. Listen, I’m so thankful for this whole entire office because I am a current patient but I am especially thankful for Dr. Martin and the sweet amazing assistant that worked with him today (ON A SUNDAY!) to help remove my fiancé’s infected tooth. He was in absolute agony from 1am Saturday morning till 8am today but I called after hours yesterday and Dr. Martin made it happen quickly as well as communicated well and fast. I’m so thankful they took time out of their day off to take care of him. He is already feeling relief. We got there at 8am and his tooth was out by 8:30am. They were so quick, it was painless for him and they were also SO KIND. Thank you over and over for coming in and taking care of him. He couldn’t wait any longer! I love this place. I have no clue what the other reviewers are talking about. How can you honestly sit back and blame these people for your husband losing his job ? Its Not their problem. This is not a charity it's a dental practice. Furthermore how can you judge the office for having having "unnecessary equipment "??!! How ludicrous. Hm didn't know these patients also went to dental school eh? Perhaps being cooped up the last year made them extra petty and critical. Dr. Cottrell is an amazing dentist. I have a deathly fear of the dentist and his jokes and friendly demeanor is awesome. His work is exquisite. I had two root canals done they are holding up perfectly. I have had nothing but a TERRIBLE experience at this office. I would never recommend this place. Appointment on 5/29/2020. My daughter's cleaning went very well and the ladies who assisted were relatable and nice to my daughter. Many thanks! The following Orthodontist appointment was a very different story. We waited in the waiting area and overheard CARRIE complaining about the ortho appointments falling behind and how there should be a schedule. I found this to be very unprofessional. She then called us back and was rude and abrupt with my daughter. No greeting, no communication. She continued the entire appointment in a negative manner. Our visits are almost always a positive experience. Today, we hope Carrie has a better day and finds a peaceful way to channel her negative energy. Appointment on 5/29/2020. As a patient who is terrified of the dentist, coming in for a relatively simple procedure to most people, but for me felt like a life or death surgery (yeah, yeah, I know, suck it up, right?!?!). For the first time in my adult life the team at Richard Cottrell & Associates had me relaxed and worry free from the moment I walked through the door! Rich, Pam, and Christina explained everything that was going on with me in detail and reassured me each step of the way that I would be just fine! And believe it or not, I WAS!!! My first detal procedure with no sedation OR nitrous!!! I highly recommend this practice for anyone who is looking for a great dentist in the Northern Neck area (or not, I drive from Richmond to King George just to see them ????) Dr Cottrell's Dentistry refused to see my 4 year old daughter with a badly chipped tooth that caused her pain when she ate. They based this off the fact that at some point previously in my life I had failed to pay a bill, that had been sent to collections. That bill has been paid at some point in the past, yet they still refused to see my child despite her pain. This awful practice holds children responsible for the past actions of their parents. This is the very worst type of dentistry I have ever seen. Spend your time building a relationship with a dentist that doesn't refuse service just because someone with your last name had financial problems in years past. Dr Cottrell wow what a guy he gave me an implant in 2005 and assured me it would be not be a big deal and it wasn't he has a reassuring manner to him that puts you at ease. I live in Stafford, King George is a little far for me to drive. Dr Cottrell had an office at Masponax at that time that he did my implant an made a flipper until I got my crown for my implant. You just can't beat this dental practice. Their team works well together and each one--from the caring, skilled doctors to the front desk staff--is at the top of their game.

I’ve alsways been terrified of the dentist. Dr Cottrells staff have always gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and cared for. Dr Martin and his nurse are amazing!

I have been going to the King George office of Dr. Cottrell’s for over 5 years now and I have been very pleased with all aspects of the service during that time. The front office staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The same can be said of the hygienist. They are great about explaining options and procedures, and always gentle during cleanings. I have seen 4 other dentists in the last 15 years and Dr. Cottrell and Dr. Martin are by far the best. My family and I have been going to Dr. Cottrell & Associates for over 15 years. Their front office staff is very friendly and accommodating to meet your scheduling needs. The orthodontist staff took great care with my children during each phase of their braces and produced very straight beautiful smiles for each of them. The pediatric hygienist is very patient and gentle with my little guy. I have been very pleased with everyone in the office from hygiene to techs. TOOK SIX WEEKS AND THEN THEY SENT IT BACK TO MY EX-INLAWS SO NOW MY CHILD HAS TO WAIT ANOTHER 2 MONTHS FOR HER BRACES JUST BECAUSE WE MOVED!!! Paid up front for half of braces told them from the start was going to wait until summer now we're moving asked for money back and they are sending it to the step parents and now they the step parents are refusing to pay there half of medical bills all thanks to the dentist office which took a month for them to cut check and we find out through the step parents that all of this was done.

VERY mixed feelings about this practice. Some of the dentists at this office are excellent, but have had a negative experience with Cottrell himself. Likewise, the office staff at the front desk are cheerful, but what appear to be the office managers and billing people in charge of them have been dreadful. Multiple issues with billing foul ups, appointments not being kept, etc. As soon as possible, quitting this practice altogether.

The office staff are friendly, kind and helpful. The doctors are willing to work with you to make things right. HOWEVER, I do not recommend the work of this office for crowns. The margins have a lip instead of a smooth transition from the root of the tooth to the crown. Floss gets stuck on the crown's edges, shreds and pieces get stuck. The cost of the each crown was approx $1300.00 and up, which seems pretty high. Though he replaced the defective crowns for free, he could not remedy his work to the quality that I demand. I was also less than pleased with my occlussion after the crowns. Most of the work on the crowns: taking the impressions; cementing on the crowns; cleaning off the extra cement; etc. was left to the assistant. I did not feel comfortable with that. I recommend caution in picking out a dentist if you have crowns to be done. I have changed dentists The office staff are friendly, kind and helpful. Everyone, from the front desk to the hygenist to the dentist himself, was courteous, friendly, and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. I'm glad we have a awesome full service dental office in King George.

My recent experience at Dr. Cottrell’s office was by far the worst dental experience of my life. After seeking a new dentist in my area I decided on Dr. Cottrell and scheduled my appointment for a routine cleaning at 2 p.m. After getting there at my appointment time, I was told that I needed X-ray’s which was fine, but as time drew closer to 3 p.m. I was told by my dental hygienist that the service I came in for would not be honored because the X-rays and treatment plan took too long. I stated that I felt it unfair that I had to take time off of work for this appointment and was not receiving the service that I came in for. My hygienist graciously walked out of my room to ask management if she could stay to do my cleaning and came back in to announce to me that management told her that overtime would not be permitted to do my cleaning and that everyone was packing up to go home. As a new patient, if this multi-million dollar practice knows that it may take longer than an hour to examine a new patient, they should not be scheduling new patients at 2 p.m. and I certainly should not have been told that overtime would not be permitted to satisfy a paying customer. I have never felt like more of a number or form of money than I did at that appointment. I will never go back to this practice nor will I recommend it to anyone who wants an honest and accommodating dentist.
