Dr. Richard Allen Shapiro

I am writing about this person's character more so than his business and professional practice. I encountered this man for a job at his home and he was one of the most rudest clients I've ever had. I was trying to get work done for him and tried to schedule and ask follow-up questions about his home. However, he was clearly angered and annoyed that I was trying to reach him. To be honest it was only a few texts and a few calls. The only reason I had to reach out to a few times was b/c he never responded back with times and with any clear answers. He is clearly overworked, stressed, and in need of soul care. I would be wary of his business/professional practices just based on his character and current life situation. Doctor was on vacation, but I contacted him emergency number and he came in to treat my daughter's eyes. A hero in my book. My daughter's eyes were weeping and she couldn't see. After one appointment, he was able to resolve her situation.

A very close friend of mine went here for an appointment, came out with very bad results. Very rude. As a doctor, you are to explain and be respectful with your patients. This doctor doesn't understand this. Now my friend has to go do another surgery because the surgery was very unsuccessful, or made the eye even worse. I don't recommend this doctor at all. He may have 20+ years of experience, but his personality and interaction with patients is ridiculous. Very unacceptable and unprofessional as a medical doctor.

I did't like he scream to my child of 4 years old. Terrible I don't like the doctor..

I have been a patient of Dr Shapiro for many years and would not hesitate to recommend him highly. Professional, courteous and thorough.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shapiro for 23 years. I have diabetes and require visits every 6 months. After each examination Dr. Shapiro thoroughly explains the results. He also compares my current condition to previous results to determine if any changes occurred. I am the type of person who asks a lot of questions and he patiently addresses all of my concerns. I have never felt rushed . The staff is friendly and have always accommodated me when I needed a same day appointment.

I’ve been coming to Dr. Shapiro for years and he is a wonderful eye doctor. Every question I’ve had regarding my vision and eye health is always answered and making an appointment is very easy, everyone in the office is extremely friendly and I’m very happy with my experiences here.

I accompanied my mom to an appointment with Dr. Shapiro. I was extremely pleased with how he interacted with his patients especially my mom. He explained everything his was doing and why. He answered all of our questions and we didn't feel rushed. Very caring. I felt at ease about my mother's condition and course of treatment. Highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Dr. Shapiro to everyone in the Long Island and NYC community. Dr. Shapiro successfully treated me for a torn-retina which i received playing sports in 2011. Dr. Shapiro has demonstrated to my satisfaction knowledge, professionalism and expertise in treating all my eye conditions.

I've been going to Dr. Shapiro for two decades but my last experience with his office has been purely awful. There was a discrepancy on my prescription for my contacts and when I tried to get some answers they a) didn't return my call until two days later and b) said I had to come in for a second vision test. I called them within the hour to follow up with them only to find out that they were gone away for vacation and won't be back in a week. I thought it was extremely unprofessional.

Terrible just terrible avoid at all cost if you're under the age of 70. Doesn't accept credit cards, tries to force you to order contacts through his office, 1 hour wait time consistently. Been dealing with this guy and terrible business practices and customor service for far too long . Trust me just avoid.

Unprofessional. Seems more like a car salesman than a Doctor. Ruined my vision.
