What else can I say that hasn't already been said in the other reviews. Dr. Shemin is incredible...I'm in awe with someone of his skill who also has such gracious bedside manner. He performed a repair of my ascending aorta (David procedure)...never once was I worried, I knew I was in good hands (literally). Dr. Shemin and his entire staff - Mary and others - were great to work with. I will forever be grateful for their expertise and attention to care. Hopefully you never need his services, but in the event you do (which is likely if you're reading this review!), know you are working with the best. Good luck!

My wife of less than a year was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse/regurgitation. At just 32 years old it was, of course, a shock for both of of us. Dr. Shemin was able to repair her valve with the use of a small piece of bovine valve tissue. This was an improvisation on his part. He was honest in telling me after the procedure that, because the valve was so damaged, he didn’t actually think he’d be able to repair it. Rather, he believed it would need replacing, which is a much less desirable outcome. But he pulled a Hail Mary and the repair was successful. Needless to say, I’m forever in debt to Dr. Shemin. He saved the love of my life and enabled her to live a completely normal existence. No blood thinners and (hopefully) no second surgery down the road. I can echo on what others have stated. Dr. Shemin is the best of the best! After one meeting with him you feel confident you're dealing with a master of his craft and a down to earth human being at that. My wife, and mother to our boys and daughter needed her mitral valve repaired due to it regurgitating into her lungs causing her to have shortness of breath, and if not treated quickly many other complications to follow. News of the needed surgery came as a shock because my wife has always maintained an active lifestyle and suddenly that came to a halt due to her shortness of breath that resulted from the leaky mitral valve. Ultimately, Dr. Shemin was able to repair her valve through minimally invasive surgery. We are now 2 1/2 months out from her surgery and she is making great progress in getting back to her normal lifestyle of exercising and being able to fully take care of the kids and household. It's so hard to put into words the emotional rollercoaster you go through from seeing your significant other decline so rapidly and ultimately ascend back to normal in such a short window of time, all thanks to Dr. Shemin and our nurses. This review is long overdue! Dr. Shemin saved my daughter's life 2 years ago. There are no words with which I can thank you enough. You are the only person in the world who at one point held my Melody's heart in his hands and healed it and I'm forever grateful!

Dr Shemin is the most, talented, experienced, committed, skilled and kind surgeon we could ever imagine. Anyone who is able to have Dr Shemin as his surgeon is fortunate beyond measure. My husband required a complicated and urgent surgery with 2 valve replacements and bypass surgery (CABG) on 3 arteries. Our local hospital felt the surgery was too risky and that we needed to go to a top teaching hospital. We were extremely fortunate to get to UCLA and Dr. Shemin who adjusted his schedule to perform the 10+ hour surgery. Dr Shemin and his team successfully completed the surgery and then attended to my husband with great professionalism and commitment during his recovery. Dr Shemin saved my life by performing an Aorta replacement and a bypass at the same time. Not a day goes by that I don't send all my blessings to this man and his amazing staff at UCLA.

Dr Shemin and his staff are the best of the best. I had been dreading the day when I would have to have my valve replaced. From the very first phone call, his staff was attentive, professional and helpful. Dr Shemin is kind, and caring he takes time to listen and fully explain the surgery. My surgery was long and complicated, I feel like I won the surgeon lottery having Dr Shemin and his team operate on me. I am forever grateful.

Dr. Shemin is friendly, humanistic, and confident. When I was suffering from my heart condition, he explained every detail of the quadruple heart surgery and how I would be able to postpone my life for many more decades. The surgery went perfectly, and the pain was minimal. My recovery was smooth. I believe Dr. Shem is the best heart surgeon!

Most amazing doctor you will ever meet. Operated on me for both a bypass and aorta replacement and he was perfect. If you are blessed to have him operate on you, you are in the most qualified hands. Thank you Dr Shemin for giving me life again.

I just went and saw him am I was very impressed he made me feel very comfortable I have aneurysm at my aortic although I am very scared , he spent a lot of time explaining to me and let me record what he had to say so my children could understand and know confusion he did recommend I have the surgery but I need to have some other tests because I also get blood clots so I surely do not know what my future is going to be and I hope I live a long life am 58 7 kids 4 grandchildren

He performed a life saving surgery on my husband - Dr. Shemin had already worked a full day, and my husband was airlifted late in the evening in extremely critical condition. Dr. Shemin repaired his heart and I will be forever grateful to him for his expertise, kindness, and bedside manner.

Dr. Richard Shemin's an absolute delight to deal with, very articulate, informative, with air of comfort and confidence about his craft. He had me at ease inside of a minute over a very serious up coming operation. Other surgeons could take a lesson from Dr. Shemin on his bedside manner. Should I wake up on the 1st of August, I'll add a few more stars on my opinion of him! For now, pre-op, he's just a terrific person to be with.
