About Robbin G Cohen
Reviews for Robbin G Cohen
Dr Robbin Cohen performed open heart surgery on me Nov 2020. He made me feel comfortable and put my mind at ease by explaining the procedure to me.Dr Cohen is a amazing surgeon . I didn’t want no one else performing that procedure on me. And I’m doing great. Thank You Dr Robbin Cohen.
Dr. Cohen accepted me for heart surgery after I had been turned down by another surgeon because my heart was damaged and I was so high risk for surgery. My surgery went great and I am doing well. Dr. Cohen and his team took great care of me. I am so grateful!

Ineffective and insensitive. My partner died in hospital while under Dr. Cohen's care. My partner was admitted for heart surgery for strep infection and endocarditis, requiring first oral surgery and then heart surgery. He was given what we believed was a licensed oral surgeon, but the oral surgeon would not accept our dental insurance, insisting on payment in advance before he would schedule the surgery. The patient told Dr. Cohen about this but Dr. Cohen said he was aware there had been problems in the past but he had spoken to the other surgeon about that, and he is the one they use. No other arrangements were offered and we were forced to come up with $1750. There was no urgency placed on the oral surgeon, even though this was known to be a life threatening condition. By the time I arranged the payment, nearly a week had gone by, during which my partner developed complications. Neither surgery could be performed. He was put on a respirator and I was told his condition was terminal. Dr. Cohen also told me that I "can't really make decisions for him, not really" because we weren't married or registered as domestic partners. My partner's ICU nurse intervened and insisted that my partner had said I was to make all decisions for him. Dr. Cohen advised me that the patient's condition was terminal and if it were his decision, he would stop treatment. But nothing had been done yet, not even the oral surgeon's first part, and now I was being advised to give up. Dr, Cohen told me that sometimes he has to make the decisions for the patient, particularly when the procedures are "very costly" and the patient has no next of kin. It was chilling to hear that, especially when just a few minutes before, he had said I "cannot not really make the decisions, not really." However, I would not give up if there was even the smallest chance, and I was not ready to end my partner's life; I didn't want to make that decision prematurely. "It won't be premature" said Dr. Cohen. I asked why the oral surgeon had waited so long, and Dr. Cohen said it won't make any difference now. (That wasn't what I asked.) The next day, the oral surgeon came in and did his part, even though my partner was now in a coma and on a respirator, and in far worse condition than when he had first been admitted. Why wasn't that done two weeks earlier, before the complications had set in, before the patient was put in a coma? The delay was because we didn't come up with $1750 in time, so the oral surgeon delayed doing anything, and Dr. Cohen knew about that, but didn't do anything about it, even though he was the lead doctor for the whole team. Later I found out that the oral surgeon wasn't that at all; he is a plastic surgeon, and does not have a dentist license and therefore could not submit a claim to our dental insurance. That's why he insisted on payment upfront first. Dr. Cohen must have known that the oral surgeon was really a plastic surgeon. He knew that my partner wanted a different dentist. He knew the surgery was being delayed for payment first. He knew this infection could be fatal. But nothing was done, and my partner died ten days later. Nobody ever gave me a medical reason for delaying the oral surgery, and I asked half a dozen doctors who were working on this case. The only reason it was delayed was for the payment first. That cost my partner his life. It turns out that our insurance would have paid for the dental work, if it had been performed by a licensed dentist. But they gave us a plastic surgeon instead and ignored the request for someone else.
All business, not empathic, cold. My partner was on life support after an oral surgeon had delayed heart surgery at Huntington Hospital. Dr. Cohen's first remark to me was that I could not make decisions for my partner. He backed down but suggested treatment stop: Ross was most likely terminal; chance of survival was slim and "very costly" (Ross was on Medi-cal). A slim chance was better than none and I would not give up prematurely. "It won't be premature," Dr. Cohen said. Ross proved him wrong a few nights later when nurses checked for neuro response. They got little, but told me to try. I called him by his nickname; he rolled his head toward my voice. I talked about our bike rides; he raised his arms and reached. I asked him to open his eyes; his eyelids squeezed rapidly, he was trying but couldn't. The nurse said, "He's interacting with you." Dr. Cohen was wrong; it would have been premature. Ross died when he was ready, a few days later. I can't recommend Dr. Cohen.
