I would have been OK that DR Alvaranga has no personality, however his office staff also creates an unsafe practice. The evening after my surgery, the Dr told me that it was imperative for me to keep my first post op appointment because my stitches would not dissolve on their own. The next day I was contacted by his office saying my post op appointment was canceled and that my stitches would dissolve on their own. I questioned it, saying exactly what the Dr had said to me less than 24 hr earlier and the response was " don't worry, they'll dissolve". They didn't dissolve and 3 weeks later I called to demand a kit be sent to my address so I could remove them myself, as my gums were now starting to grow over the stitches. They finally looked up my records and called the Dr in emergently to remove them. When I told him what happened Dr Alvarenga said "she didn't know", and that was all. It's one thing not to know, it's another to ignore what the patient is telling you.

Dr. Alvarenga is a phenomenal periodontist and the only one I recommend in the area! He has a friendly staff and very welcoming as well. His work is very painless as he cares about the patients well being and comfortableness during surgery. The work he's done on me has been fantastic. I highly recommend this to be the place you go if you need perio work.

As long as you fit in the periodontal box I'm sure Dr. Alvarenga is fine but if your case is slightly different or unique in any way. I would not recommend him. He was rehearsed and was not interested in working with my other healthcare providers to ensure that the infection in my mouth did not interfere with other procedures needed. I did not find him helpful in my case.
