I am so thankful for Dr Cullen. I went to him with ringing in my ears and because he listened to my concerns of this. He ordered an MRI. In doing this a brain tumor was found. He personally called me and discussed this with me and referred me to a really good neurologist. Had he not cared and listened it would of kept growing and over time I would of started having a lot of problems from it. He is the best in my book. Thank you Dr Collen! This is literally the first online review I've EVER written, and I was compelled to write it due to the disproportionate number of negative reviews for Dr. Cullen. My wife has been a patient of his for seven years, and we have had nothing but an incredible experience with him and his practice. Now I will agree that there is more state-of-the-art equipment available for hearing exams and adjustments to hearing aids, and yes they have recently changed their billing practices, but the services Dr. Robert Cullen provides are beyond reproach. My wife has had bi-lateral Meniere's Disease for over 20 years. We have seen DOZENS of doctors, and we have stuck with Dr. Cullen for a reason. 1. Bedside manner? He is not overly emotional or expressive, but he is knowledgeable, thoughtful in his responses, receptive to patient input, and committed to patient care. 2. Doesn't listen? We asked him for a referral to another clinic for our hearing aid care and maintenance. He suggested one we might like, unaffiliated with his practice. He wanted to refer us for a cochlear implant consultation; we researched the clinic we felt we could trust and he graciously agreed to refer us to the clinic of our choice. Sometimes I think people only think to write these reviews when their emotions and frustrations are high. Yes, the billing practices are more complex than they were before and yes, sometimes he has canceled our appointments. To the former I would say that's happening all across the medical profession: you'll pay one bill for the aspirin, another bill for the cup it came in, and an enormous fee to the person who brought you the cup of aspirin. To the latter, I'd say that I find it difficult to believe these posters have never had life get in the way of their best intentions. You've never had to change plans unexpectedly?? Weird. Don't believe what your read here. Dr. Cullen has been better to us than many, many, MANY other doctors we've seen in more than 20 years. My wife and I trust him completely. This doctor took over my previous doctor's practice and literally 3 days before my scheduled appointment (that had been set 6 months prior) they call to say they were unable to keep the appointment and have to cancel.. They also went on to say that they have no future appointments available. I was a patient with Dr. Thedinger, the previous physician for several years. Now I am stuck with no other option but to search for someone new. It's ridiculous. I have been going to this office for literally 30 years. My former doctor has now retired and I saw Dr. Cullen instead on the last two visits. Two things happened that have convinced me to seek a new ENT and a new office. First, I would note that Dr. Cullen is relentless in pushing for services provided by the in-house hearing testing center. I don't need that service. My needs are more maintenance-based ENT needs. Second, the last two visits the billing changed (going up significantly) though my insurance had not. I was shocked to find that the office charges an "office visit fee" in addition to then charging for any procedure that was performed. There is no notice of this additional charge. In all, I felt like I was trying to buy a car where the dealership pushes features you don't need and hides fees to maximize their profit. Shame on them. I expect better from professionals. My inquiries to the office about the billing have been batted down with nothing but a shrug. Do yourself a favor and avoid this practice. I will never go back. Dr Cullen gave me the gift of hearing. So thankful for his to dedication to providing great surgical outcomes. His nurse is excellent as well! I never have had to wait long at the office either, they’re a great practice.

Dr. Cullen has no bedside manner and is very rude. He gave me ear drops that didnt treat my problem and when he was at a loss for what was going on with my ears, he doubled down and told me to keep doing the drops he'd previously prescribed that weren't working and basically said I'd just have to deal with the issue. I did everything he told me to do, I generally wasnt difficult or angry but just wanted to figure out what was going on with my ears and how to treat it fully but he wasnt interested in doing so. To fill the air with my second visit since he gave up on my problem, I would throw ideas out on what I thought could be causing it to where we could maybe openly go back and forth discussing for a solution/treatment, he was very argumentative and saying I was wrong and what I thought was not possible, even though he wouldn't offer any other solution other than to still do what he knew wasnt helping. He had no interest in helping me or figuring it out with me. I wasnt at all mad that what he prescribed didnt work, it was how he handled it and me when it didnt work. He refused to be questioned or even acknowledge that it didn't work and didn't care. He wanted an easy fix for easy money and that's all he cares about, easy in and out appointments. He doesnt like anybody questioning his calls even when the results don't work and he refused to explain further on why. I nearly left in tears with how rude, difficult and cold he was with my visit. I definitely do not recommend Dr. Robert Cullen if you have any issue that might need some digging into, cause he's just wanting simple in and out patients with no difficulty and doesnt wanna do more to help. Nothing to where you might have to take more time and patience out to educate the patient or go over other medical diagnoses to truly fix the problem. From my experience, he doesn't care about you leaving the appointment being heard, helped or feeling that he's on your side to try and help you if the first try doesn't work. No empathy or compassion, just another patient or dollar sign. Absolute waste of time and money, and I still am suffering with the same problem I went in there for. Didn't fix my issue and no bedside manner. Prescribed me something that didnt work and said that he couldn't do anything else for me.

I initially saw Dr. Cullen about 3 yrs ago b/c of ear wax blockage, and have since seen him biannually for hearing tests. I have confidence in his medical expertise and that of his audiologist based on their testing and follow-up consultations, which have been thorough, professional, and appropriate for my age and condition.

Dr.Cullin did surgery and placed a cochlear implant in my left ear for me. He has been professional and explained things that I never had explained before from previous ear clinics and ear doctors in Springfield MO. I will put it simply, the top ear doctors I saw in Springfield made me feel like I was being given a death sentence. Dr Cullin’s was different. I felt hope and possibility. I highly recommend him for cochlear implants and any other hearing issues that he you might have, because I know he takes each patient seriously. His nurse is top notch as well as is his whole staff. They are all on top of things. I do feel implants are a true gift and miracle for me. Never once did I feel defeated, or that my journey wasn’t on track with him. He is kind, compassionate, listens, and answers thoroughly, plus my results were amazing. Being skeptical and not knowing what to expect, he and his team made my journey so peaceful, calm and I wouldn’t want anyone but him along side with Midwest Ear Institute doing my rehab. Together with both of them, I felt I had the best support team ever. It has indeed been a great and amazing journey and every day only gets better. Thank you Dr. Cullin that God uses your expertise to help people who have lost something so precious to them - (their hearing) - to regain that which they once had lost. Very caring and dedicated doctor who remembers patients! Dr. Cullen is an ENT ear specialist that can't be beat!

I heard great things about the doctors here, unfortunately the receptionist and practice manager run the place like a DMV. I had a medical emergency with one of my ears and showed up early for my appointment, but they wouldn't let me see the doctor because I didn't have a paper copy of my insurance. Because I am out of state, I had a copy of my health insurance card on my phone. The receptionist would not accept my insurance in any electronic form and her excuse was "because they don't have wifi." I took time off work today to deal with this urgent issue and the receptionist did absolutely nothing to accommodate me despite the potential severity of my health issue. She wouldn't even let me use her printer to briefly print the copy of my insurance. I'm not sure if she was just being lazy or is completely incompetent, but it was a very frustrating experience. I strongly advise people in KC with ear problems to go elsewhere because front desk management at the Otologic Center is dreadfully unprofessional. This man gave the the gift of hearing. He is so caring about all his patients. Never wait very long to see him and office staff very friendly. Would highly recommend him to friend and family.

I was referred to Dr Cullen by my regular ENT, due to the possible need for mastoid surgery. Dr Cullen sat with me and explained everything I could possibly want to know. Showed me my CT scans on the computer and did not rush my office appointments. His office is easy to get a hold of and his nurse calls back in a timely manner. Dr Cullen is an experienced expert. I had learned his success rate was very high but the morning he visited me before my surgery, I realized why it was so high. He glowed with enthusiasm and passion as he was preparing himself and me for surgery. It instantly calmed my worries. I love being under the supervision of a person who loves what they do! BEWARE he lies and will cost you your doctor!! He told me one thing to get me to trust him and then sent a completely different t report to my ent. Had he sent what he told me I might not be in the place I am right now!!

Worst experience every!! Didnt say what he was doing or using to clean the ear now i have a rash and the only weird thing I did today was see him. Im going to tell my dr never to send me back.

I called on March 9, 2017 to schedule an appointment. Office staff stated I needed a referral so had my doctor's office send referral to my insurance. Then the day before my appointment, the office staff called to say they needed additional codes added to the referral before I could be seen. Got the approval but because they did not have a hard copy, they cancelled my appointment but did not bother to notify me. They only care about money and not helping a person.l

Dr Cullen is an amazing dr. He was able to help me with my terrible ear problem without surgery when another specialist said I would need surgery. Wait time at the office is never too long either.
