Robert Uzzo

Dr. Robert Uzzo saved my life twice in the last ten years. Once in 2012 when a tumor was found on my right kidney, not only did he remove all of the tumor but also saved 75% of my kidney. Then again March 2023 when after my annual scans showed a tumor on my left kidney. Again he removed not only the tumor but saved 80% of my kidney. I am thankful every day that I was sent to Dr. Uzzo 10 years. Dr. Uzzo treated my husband and myself as if we were part of his family, he talked to us and drew pictures so that we understood exactly what was going on and what we needed to do. He was so compassionate and even held my hand. He understands what his patients are feeling and going thru before during and after surgery. I am forever grateful for Dr. Uzzo, he has given me a future to look forward to with my husband two sons and allowing me to some day meet my future grandchildren.

For being one of the worst things I ever had to face in my life. DR. Uzzo and his team right from the first consultation made me feel comfortable with the situation at hand and walked me threw all of my options and explained everything in detail and recommended my best plan of action and what could be expected. "Best and Worst Case" The staff at Fox Chase were extremely professional and were very attentive when it came to caring for me pre and post surgery. Hands down I recommend DR. My mom was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in October 2022 in Poland. We’ve contacted and consulted best professionals in the country; however given the complexity and criticality of the situation, we decided to also seek second opinion and guidance in the US. After a thorough due diligence and recommendations from close friends who are also professionals in the medical field, Dr Uzzo was the one and only to call. Dr. Uzzo is known as the best! After only the very first visit we already knew that Doctor is the one who my mom will be operated by. My mom’s surgery was in December 2022 performed by Dr. Uzzo. She was already walking and feeling well after only few hours of such a complex procedure and she got discharged from the hospital the following day! Truly spectacular! There are not enough compliments to describe how satisfied we are. Not only Dr. Uzzo safely removed the cancer but also saved my mom’s kidney, which, in my mom’s case, was almost as critical as removing the tumor. Other surgeons we saw prior were implying there is a very high probability of my mom ending up with a full nephrectomy which would have led to dialysis. We were not disappointed, and it was well worth the 80 mile drive. He was very personable and explained everything thoroughly. His resource page of material to read, that was emailed to us, was excellent for preparing for the initial consultation and surgery. Fox Chase staff in the office and hospital were also excellent...kind, positive, and compassionate. Everyone gets 6 stars and I highly recommend Dr Uzzo. I am a 50 year old male who was diagnosed with a kidney tumor in my right kidney. The urologist at my local hospital wanted to perform a biopsy and then remove the entire kidney if confirmed. I contacted Fox Chase for a second opinion and was directed to Dr. Uzzo. I contacted his office and the nurse answered all of my questions (I was emotional and had many) with patience and compassion. When I asked about Dr. Uzzo's background regarding kidney tumors she said "This is all he does". I asked for an appointment as soon as possible and was quickly scheduled. On the day of my appointment, Dr. Uzzo sat with my wife and I for ~60min discussing the condition and options. He was not rushed and showed compassion. I had made an extensive list of questions before meeting with him and he took the time to answer all of them. It was decided to try a Sestamibi CAT scan which uses a radioactive dye to determine if a tumor is benign or not (less invasive than biopsy). This was scheduled within a week and I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Uzzo a few days after. Results suggested the tumor was not benign. We again discussed options and decided a partial nephrectomy was the best option. Dr. Uzzo has performed > 2000 of these procedures over his career. He explained everything to expect in perfect detail. The surgery was scheduled in 4 weeks. After my surgery, the nurses and staff at the Fox Chase Hospital were non-stop in making sure I was cared for. 4 days later I was home. WOW! Where should I start! I am one lucky lady to have landed at Fox chase in Dr Uzzo's hands. I am a 54 year old very active women that didn't know what was about to happen. I went for my yearly physical Feb 15th 2021 and exactly one month later was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. My urologist told me he would call Fox Chase and 15 minutes later the staff at fox chase called me and schedules all my scans and appts. I saw Dr Uzzo that same week. This is where my luck began. He has an amazing bedside manner, calm and soft spoken. he explained what was going on in a drawing making me understand all the details of my condition. then he touched my hand and told me he would cure me. Dr. Uzzo took the time to educate me as to how the kidney functions and described the mass on my kidney and how he was going to remove it. He explained the difference between robotic and traditional surgery and the advantage to doing traditional surgery in my situation. Dr. Uzzo told me this was 100% curable with 2 days in the hospital and about 2 weeks of recovery until I was back to normal lifestyle living with some weight lifting restrictions. When I went to have my drain removed, 4 days after being discharged, I told the doctor in triage how I was surprised how mobile I was with little pain after only 6 days from surgery. He said that is normal with robotic surgery. I told him I did not have robotic surgery. He looked at my incision and then said, "That's what happens when Dr. Uzzo does your surgery!" The pre-surgery consultations and preparations were vital in lowering my stress level. I went into surgery with full confidence that I was having the best care possible by the most qualified people available. Very thorough and professional from diagnosis to surgery. Explained everything well. Office staff very accommodating and helpful. Surgery was a very positive experience. I was diagnosed with bilateral kidney cancer in May 2020. My Doctors in the Lehigh Valley area stated I would need a total nephrectomy of both my kidneys and go on dialysis. I was sent to a Urologist Oncologist in Allentown who had worked for Dr. Uzzo. He told me to get an appointment with Dr Uzzo because if anyone could save my kidneys he could. I made an appointment with Dr. Uzzo. My wife I were both scared of what the end result would be the rest of my life going to dialysis 3 times a week for 4 1/2 hours. Both of us are healthcare workers and no the good and the bad with dialysis. We got to Dr. Uzzo office for my appointment and the first thing he told us is he do everything he can to save my kidneys. We both had a sigh of relief. Dr Uzzo was able to remove the cancer from my left kidney and save about 70% of it in October of 2020. After recovering from my first surgery he went in to save my right kidney in December of 2020. The surgery went well but the cancer and damage to my right kidney was to extensive and had to be removed. Today I have good use of my left kidney. Dr Uzzo and his team are fantastic from his office staff, Sue his nurse and all the residence that check on me in the hospital. Also Fox Chase Cancer Center has a fantastic staff. Dr Uzzo is simply on top of it!! He is obviously qualified in his field. From the first time we met with him I felt he has a good core and that he is very caring and sympathetic to our fears. He is a good listener — something that seems hard to find anymore. He explains things very clearly and always takes the time to answer questions or clarify. Dr. Uzzo and team are outstanding. My kidney cancer journey started almost to the day of the 2020 pandemic lockdowns; so getting to see doctors yet alone specialists seemed daunting and hearing on the news that only treatments that were classified as “non-elective” made this time even a more scary for me (noting this cancer was totally asymptomatic in the 1st place). All I knew at the time was I needed to get the process moving; understanding I might be told only to wait. I need to be honest I did look on Dr. Google (glad I did) as I came across Fox Chase and Dr. Uzzo. I live in SC and my original outreach was to a previous patient of Dr. Uzzo and he was like Dave you need to talk to Dr. Uzzo at least for a second opinion if nothing else, I was like ok and went online to request an appointment. WOW, from that moment on things moved as the staff called me back within an hour and got me scheduled for a telehealth conference. Dr. Uzzo and others were on the call and spoke to me in terms I understood and drew pictures on a piece of paper and went through everything. Dr. Uzzo did agree with my local urologist’s treatment plan of a partial nephrectomy but did state due to the location of the cancer it would be a complex procedure. At the end of the call I asked Dr. Uzzo if he would be able to do the surgery which his reply was yes. I had a 5 cm growth found on my left kidney, got a few opinions and than someone suggested Dr. Uzzo, I had the growth removed just about two weeks ago, everything picture perfect. Dr Uzzo and staff did an incredible job keeping me informed and surgery was perfect. Sue at Dr Uzzo’s office took great care of me. I had to go and get a post op ultrasound of my kidney and when they went to do the left side I said go ahead and do what you got to do it feels great and the technician said “I’m guessing that Dr Uzzo performed the surgery”? Dr Uzzo is an amazing doctor. I went to him for a second opinion after my original doctor told me my kidney had to be removed due to inoperable tumors. Dr Uzzo reviewed my scans and immediately told me he felt he could save my kidney. He performed surgery and kept 95%of my kidney in tact. When you have a very serious diagnosis take the time to get a second opinion from a doctor who has the training and experience. Dr Uzzo truly cares for his patients. Doctor Uzzo is one of the most amazing surgeons I have ever come in contact with. He treats you like your part of his family. He takes his time explaining your entire situation, and what to expect before and after surgery. I had my surgery , which was the robotic removal of a 2 cm lesion on my right kidney 11/20 @ 8:00am . Besides seeing me that morning before surgery, then coming out to speak to my family after it was completed, again taking his time explaining how the procedure went, he once again visited me 9:00 pm at night in my room the same day to check on how I was doing. I attended an appointment with my father related to kidney cancer. Dr. Uzzo and his entire staff were wonderful. Everyone genuinely showed they cared about my father and were true professionals. Dr. Uzzo especially was very impressive. First of all he was completely engaged with my father, myself and my mother who attended. I went to Dr. Uzzo for a second opinion and I am so glad I did. I did not get a firm diagnosis from the first doctor I went to earlier this year. Dr. Uzzo gave me one and he and his team answered all my questions and clearly explained how the surgery would proceed. It has now been almost a month since my surgery and everything went according to his plan. The tumor was removed and my kidney was saved. No additional chemothrapy, radiation or medicine are needed. I have never written a review before. I guess because nothing ever seemed important enough, until now. I was diagnosed with bi-lateral kidney cancer, very uncommon. It was discovered by accident, during testing for something else. I am very fortunate to have a brother in law who is a Doctor, my sister and my daughter in law are nurses. One name was referred to my brother in law and my daughter in law by two different oncologists, it was Dr. Uzzo at Fox Chase Cancer Center. We did see another surgeon at a well-known hospital before making our decision. It was not a difficult decision once we met with Dr. Uzzo and his wonderful nurse Sue. Dr. Uzzo is totally engaged with you from the time he enters the exam room. He is very personable, looks you in the eye when speaking with you and most importantly he has a sense of humor, very unusual in surgeons. He explained in detail, with a drawing what his plan would be to remove the cancers. He was very positive and confident on the outcome of the surgeries. Dr. Uzzo never once made me feel it was very rare to have cancer in both kidneys at the same time. All he did was assure me that everything would be fine once the surgeries were completed. Everything turned out just as Dr. Uzzo described at our first meeting. Both surgeries were successful, I have two functioning kidneys. Dr Uzzo is the best! First is that he cares about his patient. He explains the results from each exam thoroughly and takes the time to explain different alternative treatments and the rationale why active surveillance is preferable to surgery when appropriate. Dr. Uzzo and his NP Jil Shrieber having been following me as a patient for 15 years. I get a chest X-ray and ultrasound every two years recently I was diagnosed with a lung mass. Dr. Uzzo had me an appointment the next day at Fox Chase with a thoracic surgeon. During my lung surgery, after 15 years, Dr. Uzzo and Jill Schrieber both visited me in the hospital checking in to see how I was doing. To me that says a ton that after 15 years Dr. Uzzo and his staff are still concerned about their patients well being. I was so impressed. I am so blessed to have such a caring and compassionate team of doctors at Fox Chase. I would recommend Dr. Uzzo hands down for any kidney related illnesses.

I was told that I had a cancerous cyst in an extremely difficult place to reach. i needed robotic surgery. Our urologist gave us the name of a surgeon. My husband, who wanted a second opinion, asked the doctor,"If it were you, who would you use?" He smiled and answered, "Robert Uzzo." After we checked him out, we called for an appointment, got one within two weeks and the rest was beyond our expectations. Dr. Uzzo is everything they say and more. His staff, is excellent as well. What a wonderful, caring doctor. His staff guided me through everything when I was in a state of panic. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. He and his team explained everything to me carefully and fully. I saw doctorS on a daily basis after my surgery. I had no pain; I didnt even take a Tylenol, and my scars are minimal. I’m ready to go in for my six month check, and I have had no issues at all!

Most definitely will and have recommended Dr. Uzzo to family and friends. He always takes his time to explain everything without giving any impression of being in a hurry. His appearance, demeanor and compassion are truly professional. In addition, his expertise in his specialty is clearly evident in his up to the minute knowledge, dexterity and gentleness in the practice of Urology. I recommend Dr. Uzzo to everybody including retired surgeons!

He even drew a diagram and I actually felt for the first time someone explained everything to me so I could make an educated decision. It's been 12 days since my surgery and I have no doubt I made the right decision. My tumor was completely removed and everyone from beginning to end has been wonderful. Dr. Uzzo has been my urologist for about 10 years. He takes the time to listen to me and answer my questions. When I've had emergencies, he has always gotten me admitted and cared for quickly. He is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor. I highly recommend him.

In March of 2016 my wife and I found out that I had renal cell carcinoma. We were informed by our local doctor that the kidney, along with the cancer, would have to be removed, along with the cancer. Since I only had one kidney, I would have to then go on dialysis. However our local doctor decided to send us to Dr. Uzzo at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia for another opinion. So on August 8th, 2016 we went to see Dr. Uzzo From our first visit with Dr. Uzzo (and staff) we have been amazed at the care that they all have shown to both me and my wife. Dr. Uzzo met with us to discuss what he saw and what he felt was the best course of action. Dr. Uzzo decided to remove only the cancer & try to save the kindey. He was careful to explain the risks involved, but he did the explaining in such a kind way. We chose to go with the treatment with Dr. Uzzo. He removed the cancer and saved the kidney on August 30, 2016. I have not required any dialysis. I have been going back every 6 months for my checkups and all is well. I underwent a partial nephrectomy under Dr. Uzzo's care in May, 2018. I was originally scheduled to be treated by another surgeon in the Philadelphia area, and had come in simply for some more information and a second opinion. Dr. Uzzo's personal and compassionate demeanor made the decision to go with him as my surgeon an easy one. He made sure to take time to discuss the procedure with myself and my wife in detail, and to answer any and all of our questions. Having been diagnosed with kidney cancer and requiring surgery was not going to be the usual process due to complicating factors. I have emphysema and COPD and a blood disorder. Dr. Uzzo was more than equal to the task making sure everything was addressed. My surgery went without a hitch and recovery was quick and pain free. He is so knowledgeable and professional and I was treated with courtesy and kindness. I consider myself very fortunate to have Dr. Uzzo as my doctor.

Besides being an EXCELLENT surgeon, Dr. Uzzo is kind, caring, thoughtful, loving, and a sincere trusting man. It would have been a shame to have gone through life and never have met him. He cares about his patients. He saved my life and I am sure many others. He is a special person.
