Attention and care to your patients. The office went out of their way to find me an earlier appointment, they helped when the pharmacy couldn't fill a prescription, and Dr. Barkin was patient, thorough, and a little funny (which always helps!).

Dr. Barkin and his staff has been outstanding since I’ve been visiting this practice three years ago, just recently I had an issue getting the medicine that I need approved from my insurance company, it caused me to be severely depressed, worried, stressed and just upset as a young adult in my 30’s. Not only did my nurse Darlene reach out to check on me Dr Barkin reached out hisself to let me know he would get to the bottom of things and he did!!!! Dr. Barkin is excellent and highly professional as are the other doctors, nurses, and staff. Dr. Newman handles Anesthesiology and is also great. Very professional and puts your mind at ease with humor. Others are also very good, Tracy, Romena, and Ellen. Would definitely recommend this practice. Derrick Surratt, Alexandria VA

Excellent. When going through a surgery procedure, Dr. Barkin reassures you by explaining calmly, and the next thing you know, you're waking up in recovery. What an amazing way to have surgery. Thank you, Dr. Barkin.

Dr. Barkin takes his time and really listens. I've been a patient of his for about 6 years. If you need to have any type of procedure, his entire staff is highly competent and professional; a special call out to Dr. Newman the anesthetist who is amazing...he will put you at ease before your procedure. I highly recommend.

The three times that I have been at Dr. Barkins office for colonoscopy have been very positive. Each time the staff, Nurses, Dr. Newman, and Dr. Barkin and have been most helpful and kind. The procedure went off without a hitch and they make it an easy visit. Thank you to each one of them! I don’t mind having to go back when I know I’m in such good hands.

I saw Dr. Barkin in Nov. of 2015 for a routine colonoscopy which at the time seemed to be uneventful. An hour after returning home, I began to have abdominal pain which increased in intensity as time passed. I called him, explained what was happening, and he said that possibly it was gas from the procedure. I explained that this was different...that I was vomiting, and that the pain had become excruciating. He said he would write a Percocet prescription for me and that was that. Percocet did nothing for this pain. 5 hours after the procedure I had a friend drive me to the ER. I was admitted, a CT scan was done, and I was diagnosed with appendicitis that evening. According to the ER doctor, this attack of appendicitis was triggered by the colonoscopy--a rare occurrence, but it happens. The surgeon spoke with Dr. Barkin's partner that evening and informed him that I would have to have an appendectomy that evening. I don't have issue with that. I have issue with the fact that after this procedure, not once have I received a phone call from Dr. Barkin's office. After experiencing stabbing abdominal pain following a colonoscopy, I feel that a follow up phone call was in order, at the very least. Especially after being informed that an appendectomy was required post-colonoscopy. My abdominal pain was dismissed as merely gas, and no thought was given to it again. When in fact, this developed into a dangerous situation. This is not only bad form in his efforts to dodge responsibility, I think it's extremely negligent behavior on the part of a doctor whose care I was under. I was given Dr. Barkin's name by my dentist who described Dr. Barkin as a great diagnostician. I needed one. I had been experiencing pain in the upper abdominal area over a year and I was embarrassed to be out in public because I belched constantly. A previous gastroenterologist had done an endoscopy, diagnosed an inflamed stomach, gave me pantaprozole and told me to avoid acidic foods. Dr. Barkin ordered one test which indicated I had a prolonged emptying of the stomach. I was advised to eat small, frequent meals and doing just this eliminated almost all of my symptoms. In fact, when I do have symptoms, it is because I've over eaten. I'm delighted to have a correct diagnosis at last, to be out of pain, and perhaps best of all, to be rid of all that belching. I had an amazing experience at this doctor's office. I've had a tugging/bursting feeling in my abdomen for at least 4 years that had been getting increasingly worse. Other doctors had done sonograms, ct scans, ultrasounds all in vein. I finally switched primary care physicians (long overdue). My new PCP recommended me to a GI, Dr.Malhatra, at this office. When i described my pain he knew what it was immediately & ordered and endoscopy. On the day of the procedure Deanna, the nurse, & Dr.nelson, the anesthesiologist were so kind-they had me sing my way to the procedure room. Dr. Malhatra & his blonde procedure assistant were also very nice. It made all the difference in the world having kind people guide me through it. When the endoscopy was done they were still attentive and answered all questions i had. The day after; i had a question about the safety of taking my routine meds after a biopsy & Dr.barkin returned my call on a holiday weekend. I'm overall extremely happy with this doctor's office.
