Dr. Shah did my partial knee replacement in the beginning of January 2023. In the first couple of weeks, the pain was quite intense. But about 8 weeks from the surgery with PT, l was able to go from upper Bronx where l live to the end of Brooklyn without any aid by public transportation. It is a great feeling to walk without the pain that troubled me for years. I am to able to walk longer and walk with confidence. Now l can plan to visit family across the country. I can make plans to travel with friends. It has re-shaped my life. Thank you, Dr. Shah!

From my first appointment with Dr. Shah through and including my follow up visits after a full knee replacement, I was met with superb professionalism, knowledge and patience while I asked many questions. Dr. Shah was very attentive and helped me to understand the procedure and also explained to me what my part in recovery would be. I felt calm and prepared before surgery. Dr. Shah's precise skills helped me to walk unaided after two days, and at the two week mark I was exercising and bending my knee without pain. Dr. Shah is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon and I am truly lucky to have chosen him to perform my full knee replacement.

h. The knees were so bad that he wanted to do double knee replacement the next day. We waited until after the holidays. 1/3/23 I had double knee replacement surgery. Dr Shah told my husband that those were the worse knees he has ever seen. 17 days later with PT and doing what you need to do I am walking with no pain just alittle stiffness and depending on what I am doing just need a cane. I would highly recommend Dr. Roshan Shah.

Dr. Shah is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon who deserves your trust. But not just on the basis of his exceptional technical and medical expertise. Rather, unlike many specialists, who view a patient as a case, he treated me as a whole person; he immediately recognized the lifelong condition, previously undiagnosed, that was the origin of my knee problems. He saw all the cascading effects of that condition that I had been struggling with for decades. I felt more seen and heard than I had ever been by a doctor. As well, he had a vision for how my knee would look post-op and achieved that result, even though the knee problem was more severe than anticipated. I followed his instructions and the outcome, my new knee with an almost invisible scar, is more beautiful than before. In a city with an abundance of excellent orthopedists, Dr. Roshan Shah stands above the rest.

I went to the top 4 Doctors in the NYC area about a knee replacement, and thank goodness I did the research, because that's how I found Dr. Shah. His exam was more thorough than anyone else's and he spoke directly to the factors that affected me personally. Everyone else just spoke about the procedure in general terms. Dr. Shah was far beyond any of the other physicians, and it's scary what passes for top doctors out there. He did both of my knees and my recovery was absolutely better than the best case scenario - especially the second knee... up and walking around Tarrytown 3 days after the operation. I couldn't be happier with the results, and would recommend Dr. Shah to anyone needing a knee replacement. He's the smartest and most intuitive doctor I've ever had, and I wish I could have him for all my medical needs.

Dr. Shah replaced my increasing painful and frail right hip neatly, swiftly, and efficiently with a brand new one. I limped into surgery at 8 am and walked out again the same day at 1:30 pm: to me, it seemed miraculous. Thanks to Dr. Shah and hip team, the experience was clear, clean, quick, and without a hitch--now two weeks out, I am walking without a walker, without a cane, with confidence and pleasure. If I could I would give him ten stars: he is a wonderfully skilled physician with a superb team that makes the experience seem as easy as it is efficient and effective. I could not recommend him and his team more wholeheartedly or with more admiration and gratitude. For nine months and more, I had been limping around on a painful right hip which I thought--mistakenly--I could handle through exercise but which grew increasingly frail and fragile. Dr. Shah and his wonderful team, just two weeks ago, replaced it with a new hip, in a procedure that was clean, crisp, streamlined, and, to my mind, miraculous. I'm about to walk into PT for the final chapter of this saga and am deeply grateful to Dr. Shah and his associates for their expert care. It is astounding to me to walk again without anything more than a little soreness that will dissipate as the muscles grow strong again. For me, the surgery has been a life-changing experience for which I am deeply grateful. I recommend Dr. Shah and his team without reservation and with sincere admiration and gratitude.

Having had a difficult posterior Total Hip Replacement several years ago, I was thrilled when I found Dr Roshan Shah, orthopedic surgeon at New York -Presbyterian. Kind, caring, very skilled, he performed a very successful anterior THP. And he has a wonderful team: anesthesiologists, physician assistant, nurses, and patient educators who worked together to streamline getting all the required clearances and were more than helpful to me. I was able to have my surgery scheduled quickly. I literally walked into the OR at 8 am and was home by 1:30 pm that same day! And immediately I felt no joint pain when I walked! (Yes, soreness at the incision and thigh pain) but that is to be expected. This procedure enabled me to walk right away and I had no complicated movement restrictions, which allowed me recover quickly and to feel like myself again. It is rare to find a surgeon who is such an expert and also communicates well and has a good bedside manner. I am very grateful to Dr. Shah.

I found Dr. Shah to be very through explained what needed to be done and what to do prior to the surgery and what to expect after. I had a total knee replacement and after three weeks was able to walk all around Manhattan without pain. I suffered for years and now I wonder why I waited so long to have this surgery I am 74 and feel like a 40 year old. Don't hesitate just do it and get your life back

Dr. Shah gave me two new knees over the past 4 months and my recovery from both was a breeze. Home 5 hours after surgery, no walker, no cane, and up and down stairs 8 hours after surgery. After a week, driving and getting around, after a month, a regular life - albeit with exercises, and occasional icing etc. You do have to do your part. My recovery was so quick because Dr Shah is a master of the minimally invasive surgery that makes a a such a big difference. And he uses the latest robotics. The surgery takes more time, and more training but also leads to faster, less painful recovery. And amazingly, not all surgeons use these techniques. Dr Shah is also responsive, great with the explanations, followup, etc., and his staff is wonderful - helpfully guiding you throughout the entire process. I would recommend him to everyone. He and his staff have given me back an active life. Thank you!

Dr. Shah saw my mom after her knee surgery from one year back did not give her relief. It was a difficult choice to go for another surgery, mom invested so much time and hard work in rehabilitation physical therapy, and now to start all over again. Dr. Shah saw the tests and gave her hope as he told her with confidence that he could really improve her condition. It's been a few weeks and we see really positive signs! We are grateful to Dr. Shah and his team for their dedicated work. They took wonderful care of my mom! She is now preparing for her second surgery, on the other knee. She is full of hope, feels safe and at peace. We look forward to seeing our mom becoming active again. She used to take long walks and really enjoy herself. Wishing you great health and blessings from helping so many people who need you.

Dr. Shah read my hip x-rays, knew what he was looking at, and how to fix it. I was scheduled for my hip replacement within 2 weeks. I was given precise instructions (I recommend adhering the pre/post op diet, taking the vitamins, etc.) I was admitted to NY Presbyterian Hospital at 9 am and went home the same day at 6:30 pm. As warned by his affable and skilled team, the second day would be uncomfortable, and to stay ahead of discomfort with my prescriptions. On the third day I went out for a few hours. By the second week I transitioned to a cane and walked my hallways and outside, and began working remotely. By the third week I was lifting the affected leg to trim nails, put on shoes, etc. It's been one month since surgery, and since I have a short bus ride to my office, I am returning to work tomorrow. I have no hip pain, and residual muscle soreness in my thigh and tenderness at the 4" incision site are managed by OTC pain meds. I highly recommend Dr. Shah and his team.

I am tremendously grateful that I learned about Dr. Shah just before my scheduled knee replacement with someone else. His examination alone showed me how thorough and careful he is about his work. I have since had both complete knee replacements done by him and he is TRULY masterful and brilliant at his art! My legs were so bowed I did not really believe he could straighten them as he said he could. He did! For the first time in years, I can walk quickly again without pain- only two months after my second replacement. Dr. Shah is a wonderful human being and made himself easily accessible in a way that was surprising as well as reassuring. I did not hesitate to contact him when I had concerns and his whole team was also wonderful to work with. I very strongly recommend Dr. Roshan Shah!

I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Shah through a glowing recommendation from my brother-in-law who had both hips and both knees replaced by him and couldn't have been happier. I would say the same for sure! Dr. Shah was very caring and understanding and he took his time in explaining everything to me precisely. When I had my x-rays completed, he wanted more detail. Before I had my right hip x-rayed again, Dr. Shah knelt down in front of me and positioned my hip himself, rotating it slightly. The X-ray was taken, Dr. Shah reviewed it immediately and told the technician that was exactly what he wanted. His surgery on my right hip was superb. I was carefully climbing 4 steps hours after the operation and was able to return home the same day! After 9 weeks, I felt almost perfect. At 11 weeks, I have completed PT and I can honestly say it feels as though I never had a hip replacement. I feel very, very fortunate to have had Dr. Shah as my surgeon and send my tremendous thanks!

He and his staff are absolutely up to date with cutting edge procedures, as well as bringing a caring, kind and good-humored attitude to patient interactions. My pain management and my ultimate outcome(s) have been much better that I’d anticipated. If I could award Dr. Shah six or more stars, I certainly would.

I was introduced to Dr. Shah for hip-replacement surgery by a mutual friend. In a word, SUPERB. Ambulatory procedure (admitted and discharged on the same day). Walking with ease after less than two weeks. I cannot imagine a better surgeon than Dr. Shah. Utterly professional, attentive and available to address questions or concerns at any time before or after surgery. Excellent staff. Any patient under his care will be exceptionally well-served. Top notch credentials which Dr. Shah lives up to in every respect.

I had partial knee replacement surgery. I discussed the surgery with Dr. Shah in my first visit. He answered all my questions and gave me confidence in his expertise. The surgery went smoothly and my recovery has been swift. I had thorough post-ops with Dr Shah and trust his dedication and ability.

I visited Dr. Shah initially for a second opinion. I was impressed that his office took more X-rays of my knees than the previous doctor. Dr. Shah explained to me fully his findings and how he could help me to be pain-free. Happy and relieved when advised surgery would be partial replacement, done 6 weeks apart (in 2019). His technical skills are impressive. Dr. Shah’s bedside manner, and follow-up was impeccable. He reached out to my son post-surgery, checking on my well-being. During rehab, I was happy Dr. Shah declined my request to do both knees at the same time. The office staff was friendly and responsive to my various calls and requests. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr. Shah to my family and friends. Now, if only I could be consistent in adhering to his instructions to do one (1) hour per day on the bike??

Dr. Shah was my surgeon for each of my knee replacements, left in 2019 and right in 2020. His work was thorough, very little scarring, and I have no lingering after effects, other than I am continuing my PT of course. That's the key to real success. His work was very good. I highly recommend Dr. Shah for this surgery.

Dr. Shah did a "revision" on my left knee. I had had a knee replacement that wouldn't heal. Though he was at first reluctant to operate, he then saw something he could improve. And that he did. Now at 7 weeks I'm in better shape than I was at 7 months with the other. He is exceedingly skillful, but beyond that, he listens and cares. His entire staff is wonderful and involved in each patient's progress. I was given their business cellphones, and was able to contact the office, a nurse, etc. A knee replacement is tough going, but when you know the doctor and his staff care and will help, it makes everything easier. Now and again you have one of those doctors that is one of the best, and Dr. Shah is one of them.

Dr. Shah came highly recommended and he is the best doctor I've ever had, in terms of both his technical skills and his bed side manner. Also, his office was the easiest to work with and most organized that I've experienced. He was able to totally replace both of my knees within a 5 week period in the midst of the Corona Virus crisis, and the results have been amazing despite my case being a complex one. This is life changing for me in so many ways, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Dr Shah replaced my left hip on June 11. After climbing then descending a staircase I walked out of the hospital a few hours later. The staff was incredible, and Dr Shah kept my partner informed. I was on a dozen or so post-op Rxs but ceased them after six days except for Celebrex. The staff did a good job making sure I was medicated enough to avoid any immediate post-op pain. That said, I had NO pain post-op until October, when I had some pain behind my knee and occasional discomfort in the upper thigh/groin area. But never any pain. Certainly no pain or even discomfort that came close to the pain I was enduring pre-op. I was hoping to be able to run 2-3 miles by the fall but now it's looking like February or so. Overall, Dr Shah and his staff did a phenomenal job. Oh, and the scar is healing up very nicely.

Dr. Shah performed a hip replacement on me in July and I could not be happier. He and his team are excellent, skillful and caring. I was a day patient so I was in for surgery and once I had walked a bit and went up and down a full staircase, was released to go home hours later. It was that easy. I was given my prescriptions ahead of time so that I could fill pre-surgery and have them when I got home which was great. As it turned out, after two days I no longer needed to take the pain meds. I am thrilled to be able to walk upright, which was not the case pre-surgery, go for walks, park my car without a thought about how close to the entrance of the store can I park. It really has been life changing and I owe it all to Dr. Shah and his team. Thank you!!

Dr. Shah is the best physician of my experience -- and I have had a number of good doctors. He is warm and direct -- not just a great orthopedist. Many are good technicians but also to be so authentic a human being -- that is not common. He listens and integrates what you say into his assessment. He is, of course, a near genius, I think. His re-do of prior hip surgery has been remarkable -- no pain and after some months I can walk three miles a day and am beginning to hike. Also important: when you need surgery all your other bodily systems are affected. My overall health has greatly improved, not the least of which my endurance and respiratory system. This is saying quite a lot because I am a senior and the operation was a week and a half before Covid hit when life changed and the possibility of impacting on one's immune system was greater. They do not make them like Dr. Shah! Jo Y

I seldom write reviews, but I have to say that I am very lucky. If this was 50 years ago, I would be on a walker or in a wheelchair because of arthritis in my hip. Instead, at 71 years old, I am water skiing (slalom) and walk and exercise with no problems and no pain from my hip. This miracle is not simply a reflection on the state of medicine in 2020. Dr. Shah identified the problem, explained what could be done, and executed the surgery with extraordinary expertise and skill. Because of the method he used, recovery was not difficult and I was walking with no walker or cane five days after the surgery. Of course, some physical therapy and a lot of exercise was needed. However, it was relatively pain-free and I can now do most everything. I highly recommend Dr. Shah and his staff.

Dr. Shah performed my hip replacement revision, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have been his patient. From his initial diagnosis of my failed hip replacement (another surgeon’s work) which I had ascribed to a bad knee, through lengthy surgery, and post-op visit, I found him to be always attentive, accessible, probing, careful to explain, and clearly extensively gifted. Dr. Shah’s entire staff — office personnel, his PA, and his surgical team — were likewise kindly, responsive, and deeply professional. My surgery took place shortly after elective surgeries resumed in NYC, and yet Dr. Shah and his team created an atmosphere of normalcy and great care. Absolutely no need to put off a needed operation if you’re fortunate as I was to have Dr. Shah as your surgeon.

I had total knee replacement of my left knee on June 7th. I was lucky enough to be able to go home that evening. The next day I started my PT with Visiting Nurses. The nurse and the PT were quite surprised with my progress, only one day after surgery, and wanted to know the secret to my recovery; I told them I give all the credit to my orthopedist, Dr. Roshan Shah. He gave me material to read on how to prepare pre and post-surgery. I explained that Dr. Shah’s plan of attack was to go on a protein diet, no carbs or sugars, do pre surgery exercises, etc. and if I did that my recovery would be much easier. I worked very diligently on my pre-surgery exercises and followed the protein diet. The team of health care providers was very curious and interested in my outcome. At the end of one of my PT sessions, the therapist proceeded to tell me that she had maybe one other patient who was so quick to recover and perform so well during PT. My gait was excellent. No need for walker or cane, just me walking around without any aides. My ROM measurements were surprisingly almost perfect. Overall everyone was quite surprised that I was doing so well. I owe this entire recovery to the guidance and the wonderful surgery that was performed by Dr. Shah. 3 Weeks ago Dr. Shah changed my 18 year old son's life with a total hip replacement. He suffered for over 5 years with Legg-Calve-Perthes syndrome. Awesome experience with amazing outcome. I had lost much of my meniscus on the medial side of my left knee to the point where I had bone-on-bone contact and ultimately the beginning of arthritis. As a result, I could not walk long distances without getting severe pain in my IT band. Eventually, it became painful to stand after sitting for period . I dreaded a total knee replacement, but realized it was time. Dr Shah examined my condition and stated that I was a perfect candidate for a partial knee replacement (UKA). The procedure was performed two weeks ago (by an awesome staff), and today I am walking normally! I am still taking it easy on stairs, but am amazed and totally satisfied with my outcome. Throughout the journey, Dr Shah has been the model surgeon (caring, compassionate, patient and willing to answer my questions). Dr. Shah’s reputation as a highly skilled, talented surgeon is well deserved. Dr. Shah is an attentive listener, and after imaging and testing, he created a plan for returning me to the athletics I love – rock climbing and hiking in the mountains. In December 2019, Dr. Shah replaced my right hip using the anterior approach. Within four days of the surgery, I was walking with ease without the use of any assistive devices and using only Acetaminophen for pain. I still have another surgery to complete, but I can go forward with confidence. Dr. Shah’s staff is amazing – kind, knowledgeable and professional. I applaud their focus on going into surgery as strong as possible through exercise and a healthy diet.

Dr. Shah replaced my knee December of 2015. When he told me I needed my hip replaced in October, 2019 I didn't question or hesitate. I fully trust Dr. Shah's decisions and competency. The recovery from both surgeries were speedy and mostly painless. I was miserable from the hip pain and now I am dancing around the house. Even the scar is almost invisible. I find myself wanting to run up to people who are limping and give them Dr. Shah's contact information. From the stories I've heard about friends' operations I believe there is a big difference in surgeons. Dr. Shah is obviously dedicated to his craft, research and innovations in his field. I highly recommend Dr. Shah. This was my second knee surgery on the 'other' knee. My first surgeon from some years back was no longer in practice. I was very pleased and happy I chose Dr. Shah for my surgery & care. He even called me once when I sent him an email. I really appreciated that. I had my knee surgery exactly a year ago in Oct. 2017. I walked out of the hospital the next day without a cane. His pre & post surgery care & staff were excellent & always followed up on any questions I asked or concerns in a prompt, caring & professional manner. I know this is slightly off topic but...as a general comment: Industry wide I do wish all medical procedures involving pain meds would be linked with personal counseling about their benefits, dangers etc. Not just a sheet of paper from the pharmacist. I had no issues with my pain meds with Dr. Shah. I did not take them, but know others (we all do) who did or do have problems. With the rampant over use of pain meds these days minimally some form of counseling should be standard procedure. Back to Dr. Shah I've already given his name to several people. I would recommend Dr. Shah to anyone without hesitation. I had hip replacement surgery just 2 months ago and am well on my way to a full recovery. Stopped using cane after 3-4 weeks. Am climbing stairs to subway and walking without a problem. Pre-surgical hip pain was excruciating at times and now it is gone. (Some minor post-surgery related pain is still present but is diminishing.) Currently in physical therapy to improve range of motion and strength. I am confident I will return to 100% in both areas. The surgery itself could not have gone more smoothly. I did not even stay in the hospital one night but walked out with the aid of a walker the same evening of the surgery. Dr. Shah has been very responsive to my concerns and issues post-surgery (e.g., medication prescribed, need for physical therapy). His team is great, too. You can call them with questions at any time and get a very prompt response. The team is very thorough in explaining various aspects of the process before surgery. One suggestion -- it's important to know just how debilitated you will be for the first few (4-5) days. Perhaps because I never had such major surgery before and I did not ask the right questions beforehand, I underestimated this. However, I also believe that the immediate aftereffects of surgery are generally downplayed . Also, I do understand that every patient is going to react differently to surgery. That said, I was surprised by my level of discomfort and immobility for the first few days. I hope I don't have to have my other hip replaced (it, too, shows signs of arthritis) but if I do, I will definitely want Dr. Shah to perform the surgery. His background speaks for itself, but with Dr. Shah, you benefit from his training, experience, and personal touch. He also offered me the option of a personalized knee built to my personal CT scan specifications (opt for the custom!). Surgery was flawless and recovery rapid. I’m confidant of less pain and greater function than prior to surgery. Choosing Dr. Shah was one of my best decisions ever. Dr. Shah performed my total knee replacement July 2018. I initially saw him for a second opinion after seeing another very experienced NYC surgeon. Dr. Shah's focus and level of engagement with me as a patient was exceptional. My wife … More

After a disastrous experience with a 2015 total right hip replacement, I was desperate to find a top-tier orthopedic surgeon who specialized in revisions. My femur had been cracked and half of the prosthesis failed to knit to the bone, leaving me with a permanent limp, instability, and 24/7 pain. I called a college friend in the orthopedic field, told him my story, and asked him to find a NY-metro-area surgeon to "save my life." And that's exactly what Dr. Shah did! He is an amazing surgeon (a miracle worker, from my point of view) and a really great person. I cannot recommend Dr. Shah (and Laura, his terrific PA) highly enough!

11 months ago I went to Dr. Shah for a 2nd opinion, after my ortho surgeon had said arthroscopic meniscus repair was the only answer to sharp knee pain, with the alternative being give up my active life. I’d had arthroscopic on the other knee back in 2011, but in that case, each time I would hurt it, it would take longer to recover. Last year, I’d injured it, then had 3 more episodes of sharp pain over the next 3 months, but each was a little less severe than the first, so I felt there was hope. Dr. Shah was super thorough - he told me his philosophy is that “bodies are meant to be used” and then he said “I know what your MRI says, but I just don’t think it is that big of a deal . . .” (moderate to severe degeneration at the posterior root attachment of the lateral meniscus). He told me if I wanted to still play softball, to go for it. He sent me for Physical Therapy and so far, my knee has felt great and no reoccurrences. However, if I were to have a problem in the future, Dr. Shah is the only surgeon I would want to do any procedures. 11 months ago I went to Dr. Shah for a 2nd opinion, after my ortho surgeon had said arthroscopic meniscus repair was the only answer to sharp knee pain, with the alternative being give up my active life. Dr. Shah performed a knee replacement procedure on me in March 2018. The outcome was beyond my expectations. I had a previous knee replacement surgery which also had an excellent outcome. This was significantly better. From a mobility perspective you can't beat leaving the hospital (the NEXT day) using only a cane. Flexion and extension readings were off the charts. The entire process (pre-op, op, post-op) is outlined in his What to Expect manual. If you follow the guidelines, it's a no-brainer. Dr. Shah (and his team) are incredibly professional - always ready to take the time to ensure that your procedure will be perfect. Dr. Shah performed a knee replacement procedure on me in March 2018. I recently underwent a complete hip transplant with Dr. Shah and his amazing team at Columbia Presbyterian hospital. I'd been suffering for years with severe pain from my hip, but I was too afraid to have the surgery needed to correct the problem. I was eventually advised to see Dr. Shah, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. Dr. Shah and his team, from start to finish were professional, kind and reassuring; completely calming my concerns. The surgery was quick and so was my recovery, I was back on my feet comfortably within a week, and three months to the date I am nearly back to normal, with near complete mobility. Another amazing benefit from seeing Dr. Shah is that the surgery site is near invisible to the naked eye; that's right, there's NO ugly zipper or Frankenstein scar. I'm so grateful to God, Dr. Shah and his team for this experience, and I highly recommend Dr. Shah.
