Ruby C Simpkins

This is a review about Dr. Simpkins and her staff. One member in particular - Lyn, the front desk worker. Dr. Simpkins was assigned to me by my plan as a PCP. I saw her the first time about some pain I was experiencing. She ordered some bloodwork and told me I was due for a physical. I scheduled the physical, then came in to the office for that and she started the exam by reviewing my bloodwork. She told me I was being prescribed some vitamin D based on my levels. She performed the rest of the physical, then asked “is there anything you’d like to tell me that I haven’t asked?”, so I told her about something else I was experiencing. She gave me some advice, didn’t perform any extra tests, and that was it. On my way out, Lyn told me they sold vitamin D there and that it was a brand they recommended, so I bought it using my FSA’s debit card. Then a couple of weeks went by and I got a bill for a $20 co-pay from Dr. Simpkins. I called the office to inquire, because the physical was supposed to be fully covered. Lyn looked at the Dr.’s notes and told me that because I spoke about that one thing that wasn’t a part of the physical, then it constituted an office visit. Sounds like a prank, right? It wasn’t. I tried to get her to make sense of it, but Lyn only got nastier and nastier. She challenged me to call her billing office, which I did and they agreed that it made no sense, so “as a courtesy” they would remove the charge. It’s not about the $20, it’s about a doctor and her staff ripping people off. Then a couple of weeks after that episode, I got a letter from my FSA saying I needed to provide a prescription because vitamins and supplements weren’t covered by the FSA unless there was a medical necessity. I sent them my bloodwork showing the low levels of vitamin D but they denied it and said they only accepted a prescription or letter of medical necessity. I hadn’t received any form of written recommendation from the doctor after my visit, since I followed her advice to buy the vitamins there. So, I called Lyn and asked for it, and she said she was going to ask the Dr. for it and that I could pick it up that afternoon. I showed up and Lyn said, with a smug grin, that the letter would cost $40. Seriously. She goes on to show me this written policy that states that the doctor can charge for providing paperwork. And she did. I told her I wasn’t going to pay, and this Lyn person whom at this point is evidently not well suited for her job, whited out the Dr.’s signature and told me I could take the letter with me without the signature. Petty and retaliating people devoid of empathy and sense of decency should not be working as a doctor’s front desk person. And this doctor person too should have some shame and be better than to deliberately set patients up to be charged for a bogus copay for an appointment that she made up. Dr. Simpkins has been my primary care physician for over 20 years. I have complete confidence in her ability and care. She not only took care of me, but also my late husband. It's now been 24 days since my first visit with Dr. Simpkins. After my lab results showed unusually high levels of Triglycerides and low HDL, I never heard any advisory from her office. When I emailed them, the nurse replied, "sorry we made a mistake in not contacting you and we will soon." They still have not!! Oh wait, I still do not have any news about the few specialist appointments the nurse was supposed to make for me. When I call, their usual answer is "we are working on them. Thank you"

Dr. Ruby.... that is what we call her!! She is the best Dr. My husband and I have ever had! She is more then s Dr., she is caring and concerned about your health !!! When we moved out of her area.... we ended up driving 2-1/2 hours one way to go back and see her... as our Dr. She is in the medical field to help people!!! The BEST Doctor there is!

Dr. Simpkins is the most intelligent, caring, compassionate, serene and kind doctor I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Her office is always drama free and quiet, and Doctor Simpkins is an incredibly intuitive and sincere physician and person.
