Rotator cuff surgery 2 weeks ago, surgery was great and recovery is doing exceptionally satisfying. Dr. Petrie is excellent surgeon , trusty, dedicated and has remarkable skills . I am so lucky that follow his Directions. Thank you ???? and appreciated Kyung park

Dr Petrie is the best orthopedic doctor I have ever been to, he is personable, cares about his patients and so truly wants to help them have a better life. As far as the surgeon his abilities and techniques are amazing. I would recommend him to anyone!

I had been limping for years with a torn meniscus because I was scared of surgery. The pain got unbearable and so I finally faced my fear and did the surgery. I am so glad I went to Dr. Petrie. I am 2.5 weeks post-op and feel amazing. I am able to walk without pain!!! The process was super easy and I felt like I was in the hands of the best! I highly recommend Dr. Petrie and his amazing Nurse Practitioner. Such a great team!

Office staff - F MINUS - typical uncaring, RUDE, and demeaning. Lets get one thing clear, you answer phones for a living and make schedules. You're not better than anybody, stop acting like it. Waited 3 weeks for initial visit for an ACL tear. Showed up 20 minutes early to be given a total BS run around about needed an X-Ray? Already had an x-ray AND an MRI. The response, no kidding was "Ohh, well he's not here he's at the other office so you can go there if you want." Took every fiber of my being not to yell and scream. So I drive to the other office where I am forced to wait nearly two hours. His PA is FANTASTIC and the only reason for 3 stars. He came in for less than two minutes, didn't even address me personally and said "I suspect you'll require surgery" ordered ongoing PT and walked out. Flabbergasted, didn't explain anything, didn't look at the MRI, didn't ask me any questions regarding goals. Dr Petrie, I don't care if you have worked on NFL players, you're not that great. BYE

My doctor referred me to Dr. Petrie. When I tried to book an appointment with him, I was told that he doesn’t see anyone over 70.

This doctor discriminates against the elderly. He refuses to book appointments for those over 75. Seniors deserve good care and the ability to make appointments with the physician of their choice. SAD

What an amazing team and speaking of team, Dr. Petrie is the Orthopedic physician/surgeon for the Los Angeles Chargers. In 2016 I had my right shoulder repaired by Dr. Petrie. Yes an 80% rotator tear with cartilage damage and a shaved clavicle and today good as new. Currently I finished my left shoulder consult and will be seeking repair of several issues that have caused tremendous pain and lack of functionality. I met with Dr. Petrie and Kerri and they both were quite thorough on the prognosis, risks, treatment, surgery and recovery. I could not ask for a more knowledgeable and gifted surgeon and team! I'm not sure how far back I first saw Dr.Petrie for Shoulder pain caused from previous surgery to correct a chronic dislocation After many sleepless nights he came up with an idea using 3D Printing for a very complicated procedure! After removing some bone from my hip to plug the hole in my Glenoid and after a month or so healing he proceeded with a Total Shoulder replacement in 2014 and I have had NO PROBLEMS or pain since that time !! I have to come up with a new problem just to go in the office just to say hello ???? He and the entire staff are worth more than FIVE Stars I'm so blessed to have been treated by Dr. Petrie☺️I have moved to Idaho and I trust him so completely I will travel back to CA for any treatment I might need!! The best. Correct diagnosis, correct and successful surgery. Absolutely recommend.

I am a couple of weeks out of post op. This is my second surgery by Dr. Petrie assisted by Kerry. My first was completed on my right shoulder, two years ago. It is better than I could have imagined. As for my left shoulder, again only two weeks post op, I have an infection. While my shoulder continues feeling better every day, I now have a pic line in and I have an infusion of an antibiotic every day. Dr. Fee at Hoag, working with Dr. Petrie, are now trying to save me from having to go through another operation. If this infection doesn't derail my plan for getting back on the course..... Wonderful doctor and team. Everyone has been very kind, considerate, and helpful through the whole process of my shoulder repair surgery. If I had a question after surgery they responded back to me within an hour. Highly recommend!

Dr. Petrie and staff at NOI are the best! MRI and X-ray showed some real issues with my left rotator cuff. Surgery was determined to be an appropriate option to remedy the pain and fix the muscles in the shoulder. My goal is to return to golfing pain free. The Doctor explained risks, benefits, and recovery timeframe in a very straightforwardly manner. After having had the surgery all I can say is Dr Petrie is an absolutely amazing surgeon. Reading my surgery report confirmed what a skilled surgeon I had with Dr Petrie. The first couple of weeks after surgery are challenging managing the pain and lack of consistent sleep. My search finally ended up after meeting dr Russell Petrie one of the best doctor in Orange County even before I could go for my mri scan he knew wat the prob was,now after the surgery rested a bit followed by physical therapy I feel great ????. caring staff,friendly super cautious overall I highly recommend dr Petrie.

Dr. Petrie is unquestionably one of the premier shoulder surgeons in Orange county. As a physician myself I am very particular about whom I choose as a surgeon. From bedside manner to surgical expertise and comprehensive follow up, not only Dr. Petrie but his whole team is exceptional.

Amazing Dr. Saved me from surgery. No enough words to appreciate what he did for me and my family. I will owe him for the rest of my life. God bless him and bless his family.

I found every aspect of the care I received from Dr. Petrie to be superb. Both he and his excellent PA, Karri, are attentive, personable, vastly knowledgeable, patient and caring. I appreciated that they tried multiple non-surgical procedures first, but ultimately I had a rather significant surgery. I found the attention I received after my surgery to also be excellent, with multiple phone calls and daily on-line check-ins. I truly felt so well cared for. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!! I have made a fabulous recovery, to which I credit Dr. Petrie's surgical skills. As proof,128 days after my surgery, I completed Ironman 70.3 Oceanside, which includes a 1.2 mile swim. At 8.5 months post-op, I completed Ironman Kalmar, Sweden with a person best time, overall, and specifically in the 2.4 mile swim - WITH ZERO PAIN! And the best news is, my quality of life is much improved by being able to sleep soundly again without shoulder pain.

Access to Dr. Petrie is non-existent and they push services down your throat via Physicians Assistant that you don't need and don't work.

After a long period of severe shoulder pain, I went with my wife to see Dr. Petrie, MRI and xrays in hand. He immediately decided what my problem was w/o doing a thorough analysis of other possibilities. When I tried to discuss some details with him and ask about other possibilities, he said, "This is not debatable", and became pompous and rude. "I'll see a half dozen of these cases before lunch", he said. He told my wife (MD, PhD in biology) to be quiet and then starting twisting my arm around to somehow prove to me that his diagnosis was correct, hurting me badly in the process. He had no interest in doing any more work to check other possibilities, and he ridiculed my physical therapist, who had previously ruled out his diagnosis. Finally he said he would phone in a prescription for pain medication to my pharmacy, with his assistant getting the address from me. I wasted a trip to the pharmacy, because no prescription had been phoned in. After repeated calls back to his office asking for the pain medication, I was finally told he refused to prescribe it, despite saying he would phone it in 4 days earlier, 4 days in which I was in severe pain. He also said he would arrange a cortisone shot and I should receive a call about that. 4 days later, no such call. I went to another doctor after Petrie and what a difference in attitude and open mindedness, not to mention humility. I'll happily stick with the latter. After a long period of severe shoulder pain, I went with my wife to see Dr. Petrie, MRI and xrays in hand. Best experience, period. Dr Petrie is wonderful. Staff is amazing. I'll be back to running in about 5-6 weeks from surgery. Love the use of the patient portal reminders.

Dr. Petrie and his staff are terrific. My preoperative experience was smooth and the postoperative one has been great so far. I had almost no pain after my shoulder surgery. I didn't even need any pain medication.

Dr. Petrie and his team members are superb people, with high talent, experience and caring qualities.. I could not be happier with my entire experience so far. I am starting my physical therapy tomorrow and hoping to be in a much better shape within the next 6 weeks..Special thanks to Karri Knodel.. I had rotator cuff and mumford arthroscopic surgery and Dr Petrie and his staff were very professional and friendly. I liked the daily check-ins via e mail and when I had questions they were answered within the same day.

I had a full thickness tear and it was "in another zipcode" as far as retraction. Dr. Petrie and his staff did a great job and my surgery and after care has been great. He is the best.

I’ve never had a better experience with a medical provider or facility. I flew in from out of state for surgery, as the medical costs are astronomical in my state, especially for ortho procedures. I (and my wife) was blown away with my care! Not only did he and his assistants perform the actual surgery phenomenally, but the patient rapport and bed side interactions were outstanding. He put us at ease and ensured we understood every aspect of our care. The facility staff at Newport Orthopedic was just as amazing. Everyone was so nice and caring. Everything needed in terms of paperwork and logistics was streamlined and took place without any issues. If ever I am in need of ortho care again, I will be leaving state once again! I had an excellent experience with Dr Petrie, and with his entire staff. They are personable, knowledgeable and want to ensure that you have a good recovery. They follow you for several weeks post-op, with daily emails, to check on your progress and pain control. You also have several post-op appointments with him, for follow up and any other issues you might have. Waited two months to see Dr Petrie for my shoulder.... all because I heard such great things about him. Right before my appointment I get a robo call to cancel my appointment, no reason and no offer to reschedule... cancelling was bad enough, but to make it so impersonal without any solution to reschedule was terrible. I’m scheduled for surgery in a few weeks and really needed a second opinion , very disappointed

Dr. Petrie has been absolutely phenomenal from the moment of diagnosis of the consequences of my knee injury to the surgery to post op rehabilitation. Extremely professional and yet very personal approach makes you feel safe and confident. He is there every step of the way. I had two knee surgeries with him and if (god forbid) something else happens I am flying straight to California to see him.

Dr. Petrie Spent 45 minutes with me explaining my shoulder issues and 45 minutes with my father on the phone. He's clear, patient, and trustworthy.

He's AMAZING!! He's operated on both of my sport injuries. He performed ACL reconstruction on both of my knees. I tore my left ACL playing soccer when I was 16yrs old, and recently I tore my right ACL at 25yrs old. After healing from both of my surgeries, I'm back to playing soccer :) I'll always recommend him to anyone who plays recreational/competitive sports & needs the best surgeon who knows what he's getting himself into! Dr. Petrie took a very conservative approach and didn't rush me to surgery. After other methods were not proving to fix the problem, it was time to go in. Dr. Petrie did an incredible job with my shoulder and he took a great deal of time with me and his team took proper care of me.

Dr Petrie repaired a severely injured rotator cuff resulting from a motorcycle crash. He is an excellent and personable clinician with a conservative approach, first working with me to exhaust a non-surgical approach then taking time to review risks and benefits of the various surgical options. I unfortunately tore my ACL and lateral meniscus earlier this year while skiing in Mammoth. After reading up on a number of orthopedic surgeons throughout Orange County, and meeting with a select few, Dr. Petrie clearly rose to the top. He is a member of the Newport Orthopedic Institute which is an impressive, well oiled machine in Newport Beach. I finally completed the procedure and I'm on the road to recovery. Dr Petrie and his team is great! I had shoulder replacement surgery 2 weeks ago and can tell it solved my arthritis problem. After a couple days the pain was minimal. They said I'd be in a sling for 6 weeks but I don't need to wear it, I just keep it in limited use and don't make moves that hurts. I'm happy I decided to have it done. I am currently recovering from shoulder scope surgery. I can't say enough about Dr. Russell Petrie other than he is incredibly knowledgeable, caring with his patients, communicates effectively, and is highly professional. Dr. Petrie has performed surgery on both my knees and now both shoulders. The results of these surgeries have allowed me greater mobility pain free. After surgery 2 weeks ago, I have had online contact daily from his staff as to my pain levels, healing progress, and answered every question I have had in a timely manner. I was referred to Dr. Petrie by my health insurance and I am very grateful for that. After a nightmare of a first opinion at Long Beach Ortho, Dr. Petrie walked me through the process of what has happened, what action we can take (he is very thorough and gives you the info and options to decide ultimately), and gave me the utmost confidence on the morning of surgery. He can seem a bit on the run but I just recommend having your questions and concerns ready as he is always ready to give answers.

Dr Petrie operated on both my knees over a two year span. The last one being in 2015, both procedures went perfectly and I'm now back to better than ever. Than my son injured his knee two weeks before his college baseball season would begin, 2016. We were in Dr Petrie's office and set up a plan to get him back out on the field. All went great and he's back playing.Dr Petrie's personal attention to your needs along with his great staff and follow up is someone I highly recommend.

I greatly appreciate Dr. Petrie fixed my shattered knee cap, he is the greatest knee doctor I know and he is very professional.
