About Dr. Ryan Michael Nunley
Reviews for Dr. Ryan Michael Nunley
I had a bad outcome from a routine hip replacement that led to my moving back to my home town. I sought out a consultation from a new orthopedic surgeon and found Dr. Nunley. I know many people employed in healthcare in my home town, not even in the same hospital network. Many knew of Dr. Nunley and his excellent reputation. My implant was loose even with screws and he was able to perform a revision surgery, removed all 6 screws and I now have a stable hip. I’m not sure I ever thanked him and hope this review finds him and he is aware of how impactful his skill and expertise is on so many lives. And he’s a really nice person!
Dr. Nunley performed my total hip replacement. I had fears of foot dropsy among other fears. He eased my fears, explained the surgery and took time for me. I had a very small incision and have had no complications nor side effects from surgery. I went home the next morning and was walking better than before surgery. It has been 5 days since surgery and I am doing great, feeling terrific and healing very quickly. I think Dr. Nunley is the BEST!! I would definitely use him again. I thank God for Dr. Nunley.
he is amazing
Dr. Nunley went behind a Surgery that was done over 20 years ago. He removed the old hardware and did a total knee replacement on my Wife. After doing the surgery he assured me everything went extremely easy. I could tell that Dr. Nunley was gifted by God. He is in St. Louis, Missouri being used by God. This guy is totally committed to his call. When I told him that I would do a review or Facebook post. He stated that’s not necessary I just want to make sure she is good and can enjoy her life. I said to myself that I need to rethink my approach on how I provide services for people. This is guy an example to anyone in any profession. It’s not just job it’s his lifestyle he is committed to excellence. Dr. Nunley went behind a Surgery that was done over 20 years ago. Dr. Nunley replaced my right knee in December 2020 and left knee in December 2021. Both went off without a hitch. Recovery was much faster than I expected. I thought he did a great job interfacing with me as a patient at his office and prior to and after the surgeries. Dr. Nunley also did both of my father's knees with my dad having the same success. I've heard several medical professionals in the St. Louis area say that Dr. Nunley is one of the best. I agree. Dr. Nunley replaced my right knee in December 2020 and left knee in December 2021. Do NOT have him operate on you! He replace a hip that didnt need it....fractured my pelvis in 5 places, put in a hip replacement that is too small which shortened my leg, gave me zero range of motion and cant be fixed because he didn't put me on blood thinners and my abdominal aorta occluded and now no surgeon will touch me unless it's life or death. Then when I went back because the pain was still there he LITERALLY laughed and said, "well, you have a L-5 compression fracture you need to see a spine surgeon!" And left!
Dr. Nunley convinced me that I needed a total hip replacement at age 37. I had an L5 compression fracture that I kept questioning whether that was the cause of my problems . He said it definitely was the hip. He went in and replaced my entire right hip. I was in so much pain following the surgery they did a CAT scan to make sure that everything was okay. For the next year I was on a walker or crutches unable to walk without assistance. The pain in my hip was excruciating. He had aggravated the L5 doing the hip replacement. When I talked to him about the pain, he said that I had to get my L5 fix because that was the problem. This guy is a con artist. He wanted a body on the table to work on. He assured me that I would be running circles around myself in 3 weeks, not only was I on crutches and a walker for the next year, but it also clogged my abdominal aortic graft. This ruined my chances of being a professional pilot which I was going to school for. And lost my second class medical. I told him that I did not want to do the surgery if there was any chance that that could be clogged. He assured me that I would be fine because of how young I was and how active and in shape I was. Needless to say, it's clogged and is not repairable. I caution you to get a second opinion before having anything done by this guy. I still am experiencing problems to this day with the hip. I have almost no range of motion, and extreme pain directly under the incision. I have also complained about my right leg feeling shorter than the left since the surgery was done. Another doctor in his office said she saw no reason for me to have a hip replacement anytime soon, and when I expressed my concern to Dr. Nunley he said that it definitely needed to be done and he and his fellow talked me into doing it. When you're in severe pain. You will do anything to try and get out of it. Especially when you think you can trust a doctor. Update as of 8/5/17....my pain is still bad in my hip. I've been to physical therapy and nothing has helped. He had the audacity after all of this to send me a long term follow up study so he can get published. Update as of 10/20/2018 . At 42 years old I still cannot Set for more than an hour driving before I get excruciating pain in my hip. There is nothing that can be done to fix it as I have been to multiple Doctors at Emory University to try and rectify this problem. Because of Ryan Nunleys Botched surgery in which he fractured my hip and then lied about it ⦠and I didn't find out about it until I had to have a nother bypass surgery as a result of a surgery to repair the clot that he caused⦠and I read it in CT summaries that there was indeed a fracture. I had question him about this the day after the surgery after a cat scan and he said that it was not fractured. This guy is a liar, and all you are as a body on the table to him. Get a second opinion ! Do not use the surgeon for anything! Update as of 7/1/19.... So⦠it turns out Mr. Wizard put in a hip replacement that is 2 sizes too small. This is verified by Mayo clinic in Jacksonville Florida. Because of the vascular issues caused by Dr. Nunley nunley, I am unable to have a surgery to repair it.... Furthermore⦠I kept telling him that my right leg was shorter than my left after the surgery. He swore up-and-down that it was not...turns out according to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, it is. This butcher took a guy who was active, a pilot, and happy with his life and permanently turned it upside down!

Dr. Nunnley replaced my left knee in Nov 2017 and I couldn't be more pleased with results. His nurse Stephanie returned my calls promptly and I had no issues with follow up appts. Now I am having right knee and hip issues and called on 6/13 and go an appt for 9/20. You always have to wait for a specialist, so I expect to wait. I asked a friend who worked in Barnes OR who he would want to do his knee, without hesitation, Nunnley was the name he gave me. Top in his field. Provides compassionate care. Explains things very well and provides you time to ask questions. Extremely busy office but when he is with you, you would think you were his only patient.
This doctor is less interested in patient health and safety than he should be. Unwilling to work scheduling around Covid vaccines. Unwilling to provide CT scan protocol info for competitive cost services. Captive audience and low patient concern. Staff very hard to reach and defended more than patient care. Typical physician conceit.

My wife was his patient, not me. He is an awesome surgeon, doctor, and has a great bedside manner. H
Dr Nunley did double hip replacement on me 3 months apart. He has a wonderful staff and a great bedside manner He looked after my health and actually identified another problem I was having and referred me to another great surgeon at Barnes. I am truly grateful.
I’m a personal trainer and a very active person. I lift weights and workout 4-5 days a week as well as run 2-3 miles at a time 2-3 times a week. I hurt myself October 2020 from deadlifting. I saw a couple different doctors who pushed me off and wouldn’t listen and had a regular mri that showed a small tear in the glut. I kept having significant pain and swelling in my hip. My main job is as a Physical Therapist Assistant, my knowledge was telling me that there was more going on than a small tear which would have resolved on its own within a couple of months. April 2021 Dr. Nunley did an MRI with dye and it showed I had a labral tear in my hip. I had surgery about 4 weeks later to repair it. He explained things very well and had a great booklet for pre and post surgery information and instruction. After surgery I had a reaction to some meds and some other minor issues and questions. I messaged his nurse Stephanie on the patient portal, she has been extremely awesome, kind and quick with responding and getting me everything that I need. I chose Dr. Nunley because he is well known within the physical therapy community and I have seen and heard great things about him. Now that I am a patient and with my experience I highly recommend him. He and his staff are wonderful and skilled at what they do. I’m a personal trainer and a very active person. Dr. Nunley is the best! He performed 2 knee replacements for me and I am finally pain free! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so there were complications, but surgery and recovery went very well. Office visits went well. The staff is very friendly, and Dr Nunley listens and answers all questions and explains everything . I strongly recommend him.
Please read my Google review on his Barnes Hospital location....this guy is a butcher!
I do think Dr. Nunley is a nice person. Unfortunately my experience with his practice has not been positive. I waited nearly five months to get in to see him. Dr. Nunley came highly recommended, and I was hopeful he could help, but three months post-op I am still in pain... with no response from his office on a rescheduled follow-up appointment. In addition, the level of coordination within his office is inefficient and concerning at best. I personally experienced waits of nearly two hours beyond scheduled appointment times. My images and post-op report were somehow lost, phone calls were not returned (until I called multiple times), I was sent home with incomplete information following my surgery, and he had a conversation with someone other than my partner/designated rep following my surgery. This has been the most concerning experience I’ve had with a medical professional and I’ve opted to switch surgeons/practices entirely. I may be starting at ground zero (again), but the poor results, lack of coordination, and lack of communication have left a very poor impression. I am extremely saddened and concerned by this experience, and it’s time to move on. I do think Dr. Nunley is a nice person. Unfortunately my experience with his practice has not been positive. My THR (Total Hip Replacement) by Dr. Nunley in January 2019 went off without a hitch. The surgery took under an hour and he also leveled my hips (eliminating a life time of hip dysplasia) and rotated by congenitally deformed knee inwards during the surgery (effectively giving me a 3 for one treatment). I'm dumfounded why Dr. Nunley would receive such poor reviews, probably because only those with bad results bother writing reviews. I found the staff professional, the protocols cutting edge, the facility ran smoothly and a year out I'm a successful patient. Dr Nunley did total hip replacement on both of my hips. IAM doing great. We live on a farm and I am able to work outside doing chores and everything I was unable to do before surgery. Best of all No Pain anymore??
Excellent! Had many complications prior to seeing Dr Nunley. He corrected our issues and got rid of the infection.
So thankful I found Dr Ryan Nunley, I was very confident in Dr, Nunley and his orthopedic team! Everything went great in the operation, in and out in one day. I had a very fast (4 weeks) recovery with my new partial knee replacement !

He is a great surgeon unless you are overweight. He will look at you crazy & give you a prescription for Meloxicam & send you on your way. Do not make an appointment with him if you are overweight at all!!
Just had a total hip replacement. I have perthes on hip and it was shot dr.nunley did a fantastic job almost no scar either highly recommended
I had a total knee replacement several years ago with Dr. Nunley. He is one of the most skilled surgeons I have ever met. He is patient and thoroughly listens and explains everything. I could not imagine having orthopedic surgery with anyone else. The negative reviews on this site I am sure are NOT telling the whole story. Dr. Nunley is excellent. Dr. Nunley is one of, if not the best doctor I have ever seen. He takes his time during visits instead of rushing you out to move on to the next. He is very open and honest which is very helping when deciding treatment options.
My experience with Dr Nunley was positive . After the surgery the pain that stopped me from being a spectator in life had me back experiencing life ! The pain prior was diabilitating ... afterwards was gone ! The recovery of 90 days restriction was hard for a 53 year old so az like me /! The first couple weeks really takes patience ... but once you get PT out of home ..its much better . The in home nurse assigned me was NOT friendly , however Dr Nunley’s staff was always kind , professional !
HE Wouldn't Replace My KNEE; that was obviously NEEDED, because I was already under PAIN MANAGEMENT for IT and I'm a Smoker ?!?!
Bedside manner was terrible. He kept speaking to me about a knee replacement when that's not what I was there for. I had to ask him my REAL QUESTION TWICE before he answered, in a very begrudging manner. He was insulting to me, by mansplaining weight loss and it's impact on the joints, using the example of dropping off a 15lb backpack. I HAVE ALREADY LOST 375lbs - so CLEARLY he didn't read my chart; or listen to me. He also made it almost impossible for me to get the knee injections that had been working for me for 2 years, but he doesn't like them. I saw him in February and am just now, in December, hoping to get them done. Elsewhere, of course. I will not see him again. Also, office staff is lazy. Bedside manner was terrible. My left hip was shattered in a commercial airline accident. Dr. Nunley did a complete rebuild and replace. Prior to surgery I could not walk 25 feet without a walker or crutches and was in constant pain. Excellent surgeon and results. Pain free and walking normally again.
Dr Nunley is an excellent orthopedic surgeon. He did a total knee replacement knee on me in 2011 and another in 2017. After advising me to lose extensive wieght before surgery so my risks would be lower. He’s really very talented and knows his business.
Dr. Nunley performed a total hip replacement on me in 2016 and did an excellent job. He is an extremely skilled surgeon who took a joint that had, in essence, completely collapsed, and gave me the ability to walk pain free again. He is kind and courteous - he takes time during our appointments to answer all my questions - I never feel rushed and always leave the office satisfied that my concerns have been addressed. I have recommended him to others and will definitely use his skills again when it comes time for my other hip to be replaced. There are many surgeons in the St. Louis area who are qualified to do hip replacements, but in my opinion, Dr. Nunley is clearly one of the most outstanding surgeons you can use!! From start to finish this by far has been the best experience! Dr Nunley is very busy and the wait time can take some time but worth every second . The staff was friendly and efficient. He takes great care making sure that your well informed and educated about your procedure and the aftercare! On 3/16/18 I had a total knee replacement and I am now walking without assistance! Thank u Thank u for giving me back my legs! I will recommend you to anyone needing to see an orthopedic surgeon.

Dr Nunley performed hip reconstruction for me. I was at the hospital at 5:30 am and checked out at noon the next day. Results of surgery were very successful. Not a lot of pain. The most horrible part about it were some pumps they put on my legs. They were very uncomfortable, made it hard to sleep, and my ankles swelled up (had never had swollen ankles before). I was never pre-informed about these pumps. They were to stay on for 10 days. I took them off after 4. The supplier must be making $$$

Dr Nunley is the finest surgeon I have ever encountered. After multiple surgeries earlier in life from soccer injuries my knees had finally gotten to the point where quality of life was poor. At 61 he replaced my first knee in January of 2017 and things went so well I was back at work in less than three weeks. Just had the other knee replaced in September of 2017 with the same excellent results. Great to be pain free and I am looking to get back to playing golf again shortly.

I had a knee replacement back in 2010 with Dr Nunley. He and his staff did a wonderful job. I have a very small scar on my knee cap. Others who have had this surgery elsewhere have much bigger scars. I waited to have my othe knee done in the meantime recovering from leaukemia I gained a lot of weight. Dr Nunley refused to do the surgery because of complications due to my weight. Infection was the primary concern. So after losing one hundred pounds I'm on my way to a better chance. Thanks Dr N.

I had surgery on my left knee by another Dr. and after a few months I began having problems with the knee, it suddenly swelled up and I had to wear a brace and was back on pain pills and anti inflammatory medicine. My original Dr. was no longer in the area so Dr. Nunley looked at the knee and told me the only way to find out what was wrong was another surgery. Nine months after my first surgery I had a second surgery and Dr. Nunley found the reason for the problems and fixed it. I am seven weeks out and the knee is almost 100%. I was very active and it has been quite a while since I have been able to do a lot but I can see a big difference already. I would recommend Dr. Nunley without hesitation to family, friends and neighbors. The entire staff of the orthopedic clinic were professional, expert and accommodating. It was a bit frustrating to have to wait for an appointment as I was in considerable pain. However, it is difficult to see an uber specialist! I do not regret my choice of physicians and am grateful that Dr. Nunley was able to address my situation.

Dr Nunley performed hip labral tear surgery. Idid not need a whole new hip, just needed someone in St. Louis to fix the labral tears. I've had good results. It took away the stabbing pain in my butt cheek when I sat down and the pain in my groin into the thigh. I highly recommend Dr Nunley. My back pain is still, there but hip pain is resolved.
