Experiencing fear and confusion, I asked a friend to take me to the ED. I can see from my records that Dr. Ekin ran several diagnostics to find out what was causing my agitation and confusion. After some fluids were administered and I was able to sleep, Dr. Ekin entered the room and looked at me with disgust. He said I had lied to him. He was very contemptuous toward me, and said that my blood alcohol level was very high. Instead of coming back into the room concerned at why I might not have any memory of ingesting alcohol (I have a Disassociation Disorder), he chose to shame me. Firstly, abuse of alcohol is a medically recognized disease, and not something shameful. It is neurological, hormonal and accompanied by acute mental illness. Would he fat-shame a diabetic for being symptomatic? Instead of getting me help, he stigmatized me and said I wasted his time. I was sent home with no answers. As a provider myself, I consider his behavior unprofessional and extremely medically irresponsible.
