About Dr. Shira L Robbins
Reviews for Dr. Shira L Robbins
I was referred to Dr Robbins by another physician regarding the possibility of correcting my strabismus (double vision) which I had for 6 plus years. I had five different pairs of glasses - all with different levels of prisms in them. I managed but it was tough. I am one week post op with Dr Robbins and the whole experience was amazing. Dr. Robbins is so bright and her bedside manner was remarkable. She even held my hand at the beginning of the surgery! She explains things in detail. I think one of the reasons for long waits in her office is that she spends quality time with each of her patients. She has changed my life and couldn't be more thankful to Dr Robbins and everyone in her office.
Dr Granet stopped taking new patients and they scheduled me with Dr Robbins. Dr Robbins is the rudest doctor I’ve ever met. I’ve never cared about giving a bad review to anyone before. I’m a physician myself and she made me seem scared and worried. She put me down when I asked questions. Did not give answers to any questions asked. Did not feel comfortable asking her more. We drove all the way from OC in the rain to see her with my 10 month old and what an utter waste! Left feeling worse than ever! She is very condescending and has a horrible bedside manner. Does not know how to talk to patients. I felt like crying the entire time. It felt like she was getting in in a fight with me and that felt so weird! Asked me why I saw so many peds ophthalmologists. She told me I’m going in circles and asking the same thing when I wanted more information. I would not recommend her to anyone I know. I cannot believe she is Professor of ophthalmology at UCSD. She needs to learn kindness first!
After struggling for years with double vision and constantly adjusting the prism in my glasses prescription, I was referred to Dr. Robbins for an eye muscle evaluation. She was quickly able to diagnose the problem, then explain it to me, along with how she routinely performs surgery to correct it. Her explanations matched my symptoms so closely that her knowledge of eye muscle alignment was very apparent. She acknowledged other aspects of my complicated eye health and explained how she was taking them into consideration regarding my surgical correction. She was patient with questions, and empathic to my anxiety around the situation. She could clearly describe why the surgery would be a high reward, low risk surgery for me, without pressuring me regarding my decision to move forward. I'm so grateful for her time, explanation, and skill performing the surgery. The result has been a great relief and improving every day! Dr. Robbins is absolutely one of the best provider/ surgeon/ ophthalmologist/ doctor I have ever had. She and her staff are the most caring, safe, precise, and thorough medical people I have ever relied on. I was very concerned about having eye surgery however Dr. Robbins and her staff put my worries to rest through the initial assessments, the surgeries and follow ups- and this was all during the challenges of Covid. I have recommended her to a family member and a neighbor.
I was referred to Dr Robbins by my ophthalmologist, Dr Lozier because my left eye was weak and wandering. And I was having problems with my vision. The surgery to correct and align my eye was very successful. There were no complications and I healed right on schedule. I’m very happy with the results!
Dr. Shira Robbins was a wonderful physician and surgeon. I am a nurse by trade with a complex brain cancer journey. So I know great care. I developed double vision after my third craniotomy. While most wanted all care to focus on my cancer, she was kind and extremely patient with my inability to answer every nuance of my symptoms. She helped me focus on Quality of life and tested my vision multiple times. After it as obvious that my eyes were not improving, her and her office got all approved and I had bilateral eye surgery for correction of all double vision. My Mother had a similar surgery a few years ago through another surgeon and Dr. Robbins is leaps and bounds above. Post Operatively she followed me for several months until all was comfortable and healed. Excellent with every step.
I was referred to Dr Robbins by Dr. Lozier because my left eye was wandering and I was having vision problems. Dr Robbins performed surgery to align my eye and it was a complete success. My vision has improved and my eye now moves with my other eye. My eye healed well. There were no complications. I am very happy with the results.
I was fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Shira Robbins earlier this year by Dr. Lobue. She came highly recommended by my Opthamologist. I had suffered a from a cranial nerve 6 damage to my right eye, causing double vision. Dr. Robbins was able to perform the necessary surgery to correct this condition. From the first visit/evaluation of my eye, she was extremely clear in explaining the exact diagnosis, along with a very detailed scenario of how the procedure would take place. I felt at ease and understood exactly what she would be doing and the expected outcome. Having the opportunity to have Dr. Robbins do this delicate surgery on my eye, was an excellent experience. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is in need of a Dr. who will guide you through your entire experience. My outcome was beyond my expectations. My double vision was corrected. I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Robbins referred to me by Dr. Lobue, as she is extremely good in her field. I had double vision from a cranial nerve 6 damage. Dr. Robbins properly diagnosed my condition, and immediately set a course of action for her to surgically correct the double vision. The level of professionalism was amazing. From the first visit, through the process of the surgery and post op follow ups, she was outstanding. I feel like it was such a wonderful outcome. She clearly explains the entire procedure and spent quality time with me at each visit. She and her staff are a great team. Many sincere thanks, Suzette Montgomery
Everyone loves a good story especially if there is a happy ending. Our story is probably no different from other stories that begin with a challenge that had to be overcome and the path to overcoming that challenge. The challenge for my husband was his eyes were turning inward resulting in double vision, squinting to see things and his need to work exceptionally hard to watch programs on TV, play golf and do everyday things we take for granted. Due to these problems his âquality of lifeâ was greatly affected. At age 72, a decrease in quality of life has an overall dramatic effect on all the things we do each day. Our path led us to Dr. Shira Robbins, Ophthalmologist, with several specialties, including eye movement disorders, to seek help for my husbandâs double vision, squinting to see and the related fatigue. After an extensive evaluation, she thoroughly explained my husbandâs problems were related to his eye muscles not correctly aligning the position of each eye. She provided treatment options, one of which was to have surgery, to correct the problem. He decided to have the surgery because of his feeling of confidence in Dr. Robbins and her team. Our âhappy endingâ after the surgery, my husband no longer has double vision, no need to squint to see things and the fatigue has been replaced with increased energy to enjoy life. Thank you, Dr. Robbins for giving my husband a happier and better quality of life! My husband and I encourage older adults to seek out help versus thinking nothing can be done to help your vision or blaming it on âgetting older.â Your vision problems maybe similar or different from my husbandâs vision problems. Let Dr. Robbins hear your story and hopefully you will learn more about your vision problems and find a path. We wish everyone a Happy Ending to their story!
I was referred to dr. Robbins after developing double vision at 36 years old. I had strabismus since childhood but the last year impacted my vision as well as my quality of life a lot. Dr. Robbins effectively diagnosed and treated the eye misalignment. The surgery went smooth and I would recommend dr. Robbins to anyone struggling with double vision. Opening my eyes after surgery and seeing just 1 image was emotional.
Dr Robbins and her staff are kind, very thorough and professional. They always made sure I understood each step of the way. My surgery was without issues. I would reccommend Dr. Robbins to any person needing eye outstanding eye care.
Dr. Robbins was a third opinion for my son. She was able to discover the correct issue with my son's eyes and implement the proper treatment. I find her to have a wonderful bed side manner and to be a brilliant physician. Very grateful for Dr. Robbins!
Dr. Robbins help me feel more confidence about my self and the way I look. I was dealing with depression since I lost my eye sight besides being blind one eye that eye became lazy and I didn’t like to take pictures of my self or anyone else. She did surgery for my lazy eye and the result are marvelous I love the way I look and my eye looks thank you Dr. Robbins
I was referred to Dr. Robbins from my ophthalmologist for a weak eye muscle. The treatment before and after the surgery has been outstanding Her staff is very attentive also. I would highly recommend Dr. Robbins.
I was referred to Dr. Robbins by my retina eye specialist at Shiley Eye Institute. I experienced double vision for years and wore a prism in my glasses to help alleviate my double vision. Dr. Robbins suggested muscle eye surgery to correct the double vision and eliminate the need for a prism. I chose to have the suggested procedure. I see better now than I have in 15 years, and I no longer need a prism in my glasses. I am grateful to Dr. Robbins for her excellent surgical skills and care.
Dr. Robbins is an excellent physician and eye surgeon. She corrected my vision. immediately after surgery I can see better than I had since I was a child and that was 60 Years ago. She has great "bed side manner." 5 star! I highly recommend Dr. Robbins!

One and a half surgery to correct double vision in both eyes went without a hitch. I had no pain or discomfort following the surgery and did not even need an aspirin. The results have been remarkable with no sign of my previous condition.
Dr. Robbins made a strabismus surgery for our 10 month old baby. She was very professional and reliable and kept us updated all the time with his process. The visits at her clinic was the best experience you can have with a young baby. We trust her and will keep visiting as our ophthalmologist in the future.

An hour and a half into us being in the clinic, we had yet to see Robbins and were told that there were still a few patients before us. As I voiced my concerns to the fellow, she snapped at me in front of my daughter as if I were her child. By that point, my husband who is also a physician asked for us to leave. We walked out without even seeing Robbins. Shira, if this is your way of treating your patients then good luck to you in your practice. You clearly don't care about patient care.

I had strabismus for most of my adolescent and adult life; within a year of meeting Dr. Robbins, she has treated my strabismus successfully with surgery while going out of her way to provide excellent follow-up care. My eyesight is extremely important to my profession and career and she gave me an invaluable gift.
Dr. Robbins and her staff did a wonderful job in ensuring my daughter?s Stye surgery went smoothly. Dr. Robbins walked us through the entire process, and the surgery was an absolute success. My daughter recovered quickly with barely a scar on her eyelid. A great job also to the staff at Rady Children's Hospital.

I would highly recommend Dr. Robbins. My experience her was nothing but amazing. She has a very kind and warm personality and explained my condition thoroughly. The long wait time is accurate but I believe it is because she is highly sought after and because she takes time with her patients. I had eye surgery with her and she changed my life! The change was immediate after surgery. The first time I opened my eyes after surgery I could see perfectly and I started crying from sheer joy!
Dr. Shira Robbins is so incredibly condescending. The only reason we started to see her a few years ago is because Dr. Granet was so difficult to schedule with, and once there, had to wait 4 hours for a 10 minute exam. Given wait times with Dr. Robbins has gotten just as bad, and she is incredibly rude and doesn't explain anything when she delivers bad news, we will have to follow up with either Dr. Granet or leave Ratner Eye Center all together. I am just baffled at how she thinks she can t
Dr. Robbins over the past four years + has helped care for our daughter. She has performed an eye surgery. We as parents were scared and Dr. Robbins was there walking the journey of care for our daughter. I would recommend Dr. Robbins to anyone I know needing special eye care. There are it seems a few doctors left that actually seem compassionate and caring. Dr. Robbins is just that special gem of a doctor, caring, compassionate, and professional.

I will preface this with saying that I typically do not make reviews online (I don't think finding a doctor on yelp or any online site is the most credible way to find reliable care), but I felt it necessary to do so after my experience with Dr. Robbins. My husband and I were referred to Dr. Robbins by our daughters pediatrician after it appeared that her blocked tear duct was not relieving itself. She was 14 months old at the time of our initial appointment. I was very apprehensive about the procedure she would be receiving (and I will just put it out there - I hate hospitals/doctors offices in general). I consider myself to be not easily impressed by health care these days and difficult to please, especially when it comes to the care my daughter receives. From our initial consultation and every appointment thereafter (pre and post operation) and follow up, I found myself thinking how grateful I was that I was referred to see Dr. Robbins. Not only did she explain every bit of information I could ever want to know about the diagnosis, cause and cure for my daughters blocked tear duct - but she took her time with us, reviewing the procedure and answering the many questions we had. We went ahead with the surgery (I was a nervous wreck despite it being such a short surgery - I am a mom after all), and Dr. Robbins was sure to see us before, and immediately after she finished the surgery. At all times, I never questioned Dr. Robbins and knew we were in good hands. Overall, Dr. Robbins was professional, extremely intelligent/knowledgeable, and courteous. As an added bonus, she was always so sweet to my daughter (she has children of her own so she is a natural!). I really could not have asked for more - except maybe that the procedure and visits be paid for! Thanks for everything!
