I first met Dr. Kottmeier back in 2009 when my husband was involved In a head on collision which crushed his left foot & dislodged his Talus Bone. He performed 5 surgeries. That ultimately saved my husband's foot and allowed him to walk unassisted. I also have had knee surgery by him and I referred my brother in law as well. I could not recommend another orthopedic surgeon as highly as I do Dr. Kottmeier, he is simply the best! Dr Kottmeier, Kristen, Kelly and his entire staff are wonderful and always get back to you quickly. Everyone is so friendly and helpful here. My family will not trust anyone but Dr Kottmeier

5 yrs ago I was in a tragic accident sustaining many compound fractures and shattered left femur. I was air lifted to my “Hero” Dr Kottmeier. I was in critical condition and stabilized for Dr Kottmeier to do major surgery on my left femur and place titanium rods from my left femur to my ankle .He also did knee surgery ( 2 other perfect surgery's).He is a wonderful, intelligent gifted trauma surgeon. I went from a wheelchair to a walker and cane to walking without a limp. I thank God all the time for this great surgeon who came into my life. I highly recommend Dr Kottmeier . He’s the best!!!!

Dr. Kottmeier could not have been any nicer. He was reassuring and very thorough in his exam. Also the staff was very accommodating and very efficient. I would recommend him highly.

Very professional staff, overall good experience. The doctor was very professional and knowledgeable.

He was very nice explained everything to me where I can understand what he was talking about. It was my first time seeing him but he made you feel like he knew you I recommend if you need an orthopedic

Dr Kottmeier is like a member of the family. I am always confident that he will find the problem and take care of it in the best way possible. He is very caring and an excellent doctor.

Dr Kottmeyer is an excellent doctor. He did my amputation after an accident & was very caring & compassionate. Excellent trauma surgeon.

Back in November 2014 I was involved in a head on collision in Bridgehampton, LI. The result was a compound fracture to my right foot & ankle. Thanks you Dr Kottmeyer, I still have a foot and leg. Sure, occasionally I have pain, on most days it’s ok. If I sit for more than an hour or so, it stiffens up and sore when I walk. But I deal with it because I still have my foot and leg thanks to Dr Kottmeyer. Fantastic Surgeon, Medical Genius !!! Art Haas

Over the years, I've presented a difficult problem or two that required real experience, knowledge, and judgement and Dr. Kottmeier has always managed to get me through it. And I should also note that he's a really nice person. I always recommend him without hesitation to all of my friends and colleagues.

Dr. Kottmeier is my Gentle Giant. He truly cares about his patients and he calmly discusses options and presents the best way to proceed. I have been seeing him for years. He is truly a blessing to his profession. He operated on my shoulder years ago and now that I am older, aging is causing pain in both shoulders. He put a shot in and Whoop! no more pain. My 90 year old mother just recently fractured her hip. Dr kottmeier admitted her immediately and fixed her. He is highly intelligent kind and caring. Top notch doc

I had a persistent bone infection that a few doctors couldn't heal. Dr. Kottmeier was able to accurately assess what was going and was able to knock the infection out. The condition could have caused cardiac issues for me if he hadn't had success. He is a think outside of the box doctor. I highly recommend him.

Dr Kottmeier definitely is an experienced trauma surgeon but during my 2 visits to him for upper calf Pain and eventual knee pain he seemed very distracted and unfortunately for me didn’t take his PA’s suggestion of a Vein sono to rule out a DVT since I had taken a long road trip prior to my calf pain! Instead he quickly prescribed PT for a gastroc calf muscle strain which ultimately sent me to the ER with a pulmonary embolism which I could have died from! My life is now forever changed! Beware of doctors who are pompous asses and make unsubstantiated diagnosis’s because they think they are God’s! Go back to medical school Dr Kottmeier and relearn basic medicine! I met Dr.Kottmeier in 1998 when I was taken by ambulance to St. Catherines Hospital in Smithtown after a bad car accident. He happened to be on call there that night and did surgery on my broken femur and then 2 days later on my tibia and fibula. In total he did 5 surgeries on my in a span of 2 years. I was able to walk again because of him, my physical therapists and my hard work. My therapists all knew who he was and praised him. Thank you!

I was in need of obtaining a diagnosis for my rotatory cuff, and this Dr came highly recommended. My fiance and I met with him after seeing two other specialists which we were very displeased with. Dr. Kottmeier met with me, performed a short physical observing my range of motion even prior to viewing the MRI reports. He was not pushy like the other specialist as far as requiring immediate surgery, but rather gave me some options, and the pros and the cons. After short deliberation, a couple of cortisone shots which were short lived, we decided to get the surgery done. Knowing already that he is the top trauma surgeon for Stony Brook, we decided to have him do it, via ambulatory. The nursing staff was tremendously awesome in every aspect and very reassuring. The surgery went well, I am 5 weeks into the recovery process an d though I still have pain and currently attending PT, I have to say, I am so relieved that I finally had it done, as well as having selected this particular specialist. He is very detailed in explaining the diagnosis, procedure, and what my responsibility will be during this process. As he states, he treats the patient and not the MR$I which is a statement that really had me sold. He knows his stuff that's for sure.
