Dr. Steven Redding Bullard

My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Bullard’s for about two years and we have been very happy with her care. He is a great mix of straight forward and honest but at the same time also funny and warm with my daughter. Everyone in his office is great and his assistant (I feel so bad but can’t remember her name) is so sweet as well. We live about 40 minutes away but find that for the 2-3 times a year she needs to be seen, the haul is definitely worth it. Thanks, Dr. Bullard and staff, for being so wonderful!

The dr here is fine and no real complaints with him. His staff and billing however are atrocious. We have 3 children that have been here several times and there is always an issue. Especially with their billing. I have fantastic insurance that doesn’t require payment and the staff wouldn’t let my wife leave without paying them hundreds of dollars. Then a few weeks later get a call saying we will refund you your payment. We will be taking our children elsewhere as this place is way too much of a hassle to deal with.

Those two stars are for the good people there. Generally nice peoples out there. And absolutely no stars for how they manage visits and timings. No sense or value for anybody elses time. You wait few hours everytime, not exegarating. Wait in the parking, wait in their seating area, wait in the room, wait after the nurse have seen, wait for the doctor and finally there he is. Seriously not worth it, i have been going there for more than a year for my two kids, every visit returned absolutely frustrated. Missed meetings before and after the visits, terrible terrible terrible. No more, today is the last time. I just can't do it again. Those two stars are for the good people there. Rudest, most insensitive doctor I’ve ever met. We took our 8 month old (at the time) and he could have handled it so much better than he did. I wouldn’t recommend him to a dying man.

Disappointing experience. Extremely long wait time, unempathetic staff, and a relatively disinterested practitioner. Of course, opinions are subjective, and it could just be a bad day. They do request a credit card upfront, bit like a bar to be honest, like an open tab. It's not a cheap clinic by any means, so I think there are better, kinder, more qualified options available in the area. First time taking my child to an eye doctor, they did not make it easy, or convince me that their business-medical offering is worth the $ that they charge. Disappointing experience. We have been coming to Dr Bullard for 10 years!!! He’s nothing short of amazing. He is so patient, kind and humble. He understands my special needs son and did his strabismus surgery. I wouldn’t trust anyone else besides Dr Bullard with my sons precious eyes!

Doctor Bullard is absolutely the best pediatric ophthalmologist in Northern Virginia and the National Capital Region. He is very patient with my son who is on the spectrum and my son has been seeing him since he was a baby. His patience and professionalism is very humbling and his team is great too. My son crossed eyes. When he was 7years. Now he fixed no surgery. I’m so happy.

If I could put zero start I will do so. They have make us wait 2hrs30min and we have to leave because they could not confirm when we will been see by the doctor and we have another apt. This is so disrespectful of somebody else time. They try to find excuses saying the doctor is a little bit late and it should be any minutes. Office staff are rude, condescending and clueless. Now try to keep a four years old in a small room. So rude. I cannot wait for the bill which i will refuse to pay as nothing was done. Only been waiting. They are lucky it was my husband, I will have make a scene. I doubt if I came 2hrs late they will receive him. Wait times can be long, but Dr. Bullard takes time to explain what he does and what he finds.

Great staff, clean office, and a doctor that cares about his patients and their parents! Our child is easily distracted and becomes very bored when not engaged and dr bullard was able to keep her attention during the exam by using t.v and games to her engaged. Dr bullard was very professional and understanding of concerns and took the time to make sure we understood his diagnosis and treatment plan along with long term outlook for our childs vision. He also has worked very well our primary care physician and made sure to send the interpretation to them. If i could give him more stars i would. Thank you DR. We have been seeing Dr. Bullard for over a year in the management of my daughters strabismus. We first started seeing him when she was six months old. Leia has come to love him and is actually excited when we arrive in his office. Sometimes the wait is challenging with a child, but being a nurse practitioner who has worked in major Boston hospitals I understand why this is. When he is in the room with you, you have his undivided attention and you never feel rushed. Even for myself, who is in medicine, understanding complex eye issues takes time and making the appropriate decisions for your child is only possible with detailed explanations. When you combine the time he gives to each patient individually with the lack of predictability that children bring to the table, it is understandable that there are often wait times. I would wait 100 times over for my child to be treated by someone I fully trust. I have never felt rushed in his presence and it is clear to me that he brings the perfect combination of being a master in his trade with compassion and care for his patients. For those things, I would wait as long as it takes. In modern medicine this is a rare find and it is my daughters eyes and vision at stake. If you want a doctor that will stick exactly to his schedule and make time his biggest priority, be prepared to be rushed. That is how many clinicians operate today. You will get your appointment time, but so will the next person regardless of whether or not you feel that your questions were fully answered. If that’s the type of practice you are looking for, then this probably isn’t the one for you. For us, we feel very blessed to have found Dr. Bullard and his wonderful staff as our daughters case is complex. We never even felt the need for a second opinion. We have been seeing Dr. Bullard for 4 years at least 4 times a year now for three of my children. He is so wonderful and my kids love him and love coming here. As to the wait times, it is pediatric ophthalmology - you can not predict how children will act in an exam, especially when eye drops are often involved! Have a little grace. One star is one too many! Missed work, my son missed school only to wait in the waiting area and never be seen. When I was already 30 minutes over appointment time and all the rooms were full (meaning another 30 at least before I would be seen), I approached the front desk letting them know I would have to reschedule. The lady there gave me her fakest "I'm sorry" tried to claim "Its because we treat children" and most importantly muttered under her breath "I don't understand" at my frustration. When I said something about that, she claimed I was putting words in her mouth when those were her EXACT words! Obviously they are trying to get in as many appointments as they can and everyone ends up waiting. No regard for people having a job and that kids are missing school. Also, my son is sick and needed this appointment, I will be taking him elsewhere. BEWARE. I can't speak of the doctor because we never saw him but he certainly didn't address the number of people waiting that were already way past their appointment time. One star is one too many! The doctor is good but the office policies belong in a bar! You are required to leave a credit card number authorizing them to charge whatever they do that the insurance doesn't cover. Basically, leave an open tab! First and only doctor office I have seen with such policy. Arrived and told the receptionist that we would not sign, just like last year. Waited 45 minutes and didn't see the doctor. Husband decided we were leaving and told the receptionist, she said you were not to see the doctor until you sign the form. Outrageous! Highly recommended Dr. Bullard. He is extremely patient and takes his time with patients. Explains everything clearly.

Terrible, missed work, my son missed school. Appointment was running 30 minutes late and there was at least another 30 minute wait. The lady at the front desk was rude. Never got seen and multiple reviews that this is the norm. Obviously trying to get in as many appointments as possible with no regard to work/school schedule. My son needed this appointment, will have to go elsewhere. Suggest doing the same.

Good doctor but having to wait an hour plus EVERY time we come in is NOT okay when you’ve got a five year old patient.

Dr. Bullard is a really great doctor but he is always over booked and we always have to wait at least 30 minutes past our appointment time.

Dr. Bullard is an excellent doctor. I saw him for a second opinion about a complex eye issue and he took lots of timing reviewing my case in detail, examining me, and discussing my options thoroughly.
