About Dr. Steven D. Rauch
Reviews for Dr. Steven D. Rauch
I've seen Dr. Rauch for many years for treatment and assistance with Meniere's. He is fantastic. He has helped me manage my symptoms, hearing loss, and acute attacks. He listens to me as a patient and cares. I've seen many doctors over the years for Meniere's and he is the only one who has demonstrated that he really understands the disease and can propose appropriate treatment. It is a relief to know I have a trusted professional to help me.
I have so much respect for Dr.Rauch. He is one of the best doctors that I have met in my life. He may not look super personal when you first meet him but if you pay attention to his words then you can tell that he has a warm, gentle and caring heart for his patients. I am definitely on the anxious side with medical appointments and results. Dr. Rauch has been clear, supportive, and observant. He may not express everything with words but he pays close attention to the key details and he notices your worries and concerns, then he does his best to address them for you, patiently and clearly. It is no doubt that his credentials are impeccable, but what's more precious to me is his spirit, he is a beautiful human. Thank you, Dr. Rauch.
Hello I have been a patient of Dr Rauch for several years now. I am very grateful to be under his care. He is always thorough, clear and concise on my chronic complex issues. He is answers every question and concern I have so amazingly quickly! He gives clear instructions after every visit. He is the best in his field of expertise.
Saw Dr. Rauch for inner ear/balance condition. I found him to be very personable and professional. He asked many questions, listened to my answers and followed up. Several suggestions and insights were things I had never heard from other providers I had seen for this issue over the years. He spent over an hour with me and gave me several treatment options to try to improve my balance and orientation.
My 79 year old mother told me Dr. Rauch was rude to her and treated her with disrespect.
I’m so shocked to see negative reviews about Dr. Rauch. I’m a young female who’s been struggling with dizziness for months, and I have seen several doctors who had not one clue what was wrong with me. He listened to me carefully and was not rude, arrogant, or condescending. I actually thought he was super nice and did an excellent job of explaining what condition he thought I had and how to control it. To respond to someone else’s complaint, she complained he didn’t prescribe medication right away. I think this fact actually made me like Dr. Rauch even more because he clearly doesn’t want to randomly push medication, but would rather me feel better through natural changes like diet, alcohol, avoiding bright light, etc. I felt so much better after my appointment with him and would highly recommend him.
Dr. Rauch is always great when I see him. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, takes plenty of time to ask questions and explain his diagnoses, and has an excellent “bedside” manner. I always recommend him to people who have vertigo.
Doctor diagnosed my medical condition and provided a care plan that I can follow. He listened to my concerns and came up with good solutions. I'm very pleased with the visit.
Incredible Doctor and staff.
Dr Rauch is knowledgeable , pleasant to communicate with and his team is great as well .
I had ear surgery 25 years ago to combat my extreme vertigo symptoms, with great success. Lately minor dizziness has returned and I decided to schedule a return visit with Dr. Rauch, who gave me important information to build upon.
My visit with Dr. Rauch was better than I'd anticipated. I have had many specialists, for over 20 years, to help with vertigo and other health issues. I appreciate their efforts, but have had limited success. Dr. Rauch listened, answered my questions and took the needed time to explain what my condition is and what steps I need to take to get relief. He instilled me with confidence that I can succeed without any more surgery, and possibly without medications that sometimes can harm down the road. I am grateful! I fortunately had a great experience 25 years ago when Dr. Rauch performed ear surgery, as I was experiencing extreme vertigo every other day. I had two minor episodes this Summer which prompted my return MEE. A day of testing indicated no new issues, but it was re-affirming to meet once again with this outstanding physician. His professionalism is calming to those in need, and I am certainly glad that his skills are still available! Seriously, this doctor is abusive. He is an arrogant bully, totally lacking in sympathy. Is there any accountability out there for abusive doctors? Seems like they can get away with anything. At least one third of the comments here about Dr. Rauche say he is arrogant, unsympathetic, uninformed about patients' histories, and often contradicts other doctors without any concern or explanation. He was/did all of these things with me. I see no evidence that he will ever change and though the staff is wonderful, Mass Eye and Ear, please take some action against this guy!
I had a great visit with Dr. Rauch. He was pleasant and informative. He didn’t make me feel rushed. He was easy to talk to and very kind.
Chose this MD for his curriculum vitae and experience in his field. He has a direct, to the point manner which was greatly appreciated. The education provided was clear and comprehensive. Options for medical and dietary interventions were clarified.
I saw Dr. Rauch in late November He was an excellent, knowledgeable and kind doctor - He really cared about my menieres . He gave me his card and told me to ask him any questions via email. I will go back to see him again. Gave me hope .
He was great!!
I saw Dr Rauch a few times in 2015 and 2017. I had a very positive experience. He is a sympathetic straight shooter who took his time to explain everything and answer our questions. Thanks
Dr. Rauch was very kind and listened to everything I had to say. Then he took the time to explain everything in a way that I understood what he meant . I did not feel rushed or like he was in a hurry which is a rarity these days. He gave me his card with all his information and e-mail if I needed anything or had any questions. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
I have a Meniere's problem. Dr Rauch educated me on how I should take care of my Meniere's situation that provided me with valuable information and understanding that I wasn't aware of despite my own research and experience. He took his time giving me advice and the benefit of his experience and I'm very grateful to have seen him
Dr. Rauch shoots straight with his expertise and analysis which may, at first be tough to hear or accept, but listen on. A true specialist and tremendously caring - just expect the truth and no coddling. He takes a conservative and realistic approach and makes himself available by email and short notice appointments. He is clearly among the top in his field in the country which is why his patients come from all over to see him. I consider myself fortunate to be able to see Dr. Rauch.
Dr. Rauch is one of the top in his field and many like me travel far to see him after seeing many other specialists. Dr. Rauch shoots straight with his knowledge and expertise which at first may seem rough. But listen on! He is conservative and methodical in his approach and a true humanist once you get past his totally honest style - he will not coddle but totally compassionate. He is tremendously accessible and his staff outstanding. I consider myself fortunate to have found him and be able to see him.

The Dr. seemed upset that I could not answer his questions quick enough. Seems the Dr. had not looked at my past reports on my vertigo.
Dr. Rauch is clearly quite intelligent, but he was a bit dismissive toward me. I have suffered from vertigo for 15 years. I have had full vestibular testing several times, but my previous neurotologist retired and no one could find my files. So I did all the testing again, only to be told it’s probably vestibular migraine. Here’s a list of foods to avoid. Avoid alcohol and stress. There’s nothing else I can do. Wow thanks, after 15 years I’d never heard all this before. (Sarcasm). I’m not sure if it’s because I was a fairly young female who was not fully disabled that I was not taken seriously or what. I understand it’s a fairly new diagnosis, but I would have appreciated some kind of medication suggestion, a clinical trial, or even a referral to someone else. He’s clearly adept at doing research in the field, but he did absolutely nothing to help with my vestibular migraine.
How is this guy in practice? I saw him for a balance disorder and he claimed it was all my migraine. He handed me a packet to read. Didnt want to answer any of my questions. When I asked him anything, his response was "oh I have no idea" " I have no idea about that", etc. He was rude, condescending, full of himself and didnt address my problem or the reason I came to see him. He's the worst. Reading other reviews, I see he operates the same way with every patient. writes you a script for Ativan and thats it. Inner or middle ear issues are EAR issues. nothing to do with migraine. What a joke this guy is.
I was pleased with how Dr Rauch treated me at my first appointment with him. He was tentative, responsive, and informative. He appeared to be knowledgeable and carring.

He was incredible! we traveled 5 hours to see him. he took his time, broke everything down for us, answered all of our questions, and is 100% reachable. I was so happy that I was referred to him. I would recommend him to anyone...….

Two years ago I developed hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo. I saw a local ENT. He was terrible. I made an appointment with Dr. Rauch. He treated my vertigo very successfully (I no longer have attacks) and normally responds, in depth, to my emails within 20 minutes (last time was 11 minutes). I found him to be very knowledgeable, extremely competent, and accommodating. I would recommend him to anyone with Meniere's.
He is obviously intellectually brilliant and a leader in his field. That being said, he is arrogant, dismissive, and haughty. Very dismissive of family input (especially from females) during a visit. He is truly insensitive about patients' feelings. He needs some communication and sensitivity training. Some instructions in manners might not hurt. He ALWAYS runs late - at least 30-45 minutes and often longer. We have not had this experience with other providers at MEEI or MGH.
I suffered sudden hearing loss last night. Today my GP told me to see an ear specialist. I googled for an appropriate doctor and Dr. Rauch's name came up first. No. I saw him a few years ago when considering surgery for a hole in the eardrum so I could swim again without infection. He seemed to enjoy making me look stupid before his intern. He dismissed my desire to swim. I've worked with arrogant doctors before, but none who took pleasure in it. He may be great, but I won't return.
I recently saw Dr. Rauch in the office for the first time regarding questions I had related to my hearing loss. He took the time to answer my family's and my questions and I felt that he had a wealth of knowledge that he was willing to share with us. He went above and beyond by taking the time to email several colleagues who specialize in a certain topic I had questions about during the appointment and has since sent me detailed emails with those colleagues replies. He is prompt in responding.
Dr. Rauch is not only unsympathetic, he is dismissive and rude. He was not prepared for our appointment. He thought we had last seen each other 7 years prior, when in fact, I had 4 appointment with him in the past 2 years. I pointed this out, he blamed his assistant; then asked me why I was there. Had he read any of the previous reports he would had know. He also gave me advice that was contrary to what 3 other ENT doctors suggested. He was dismissive and very short with every question I asked.

Dr. Rauch is the best ear doctor in the east coast. I saw over 10 doctors regarding my cholesterol granuloma condition and he knew what was going on immediately relative to other doctors who were confused. I am so glad I met Dr. Rauch in 1995 when I had an infection and was recommended highly of him. He has put a permanent tube that has helped my Eustachian tube problem when other doctors didn't know about this. He knows the latest med-tech. I do not agree with the poor review written.
Would never recommend this doctor. Rude, could care less about his patients. His staff was lovely. Trusted them more than him. Would not send my worst enemy to the doctor.
Dr. RAUCH Literally saved me from endless days of vertigo due to my Meniere's disease. Very accessible and willing to educate his patients. Made me feel as though I could continue a normal life. I highly recommend Dr Rauch to everyone who may suffer from vertigo
Avoid this doctor at all cost! Rude, arrogant and does not care at all for patient's suffering. Does not listen; likes to hear himself talk. He thinks he's a teacher lecturing a stupid student. He did not help me at all; waste of time and money. Offered no solution or treatment. I think he should not be practicing medicine. He even said Meclizine is not for dizziness! They should retire this guy!

We read the reviews of Dr. Rauch and I must vehemently disagree with them. Dr. Rauch was generous with his time, very informative, did not encourage us to see our situation as hopeless and promised to set us up with a doctor in our area and remain part of the treatment plan. The reviews I have read are misleading and unfair. This is a doctor with whom I am impressed and I am not impressed with too many.
He told me the next time I have an acute hearing loss episode that he wouldn't prescribe prednisone which was what my prior specialist had done for prior episodes. He said he didn't believe what my prior doctor had diagnosed me with and would allow for me to lose my hearing in my 2nd ear, believing it would return. Is that a risk you would take after 20 yrs??! Overall, poor listener who loves to hear himself talk. Minimum care delivery, lacking basic empathy. Avoid!

He has terrible bedside manner and delivered sensitive information too bluntly. Rude.
