I've had a lot of slivers over the years, but the one at the base of my finger was different. I could not get it out. The area was red, inflamed and very tender. After nearly half a year of trying to remove something I couldn't even see, I made an appointment with Dr. Baxamusa by way of referral from my primary physician. Surgery with an orthopedic surgeon to remove a sliver? Not so fast. Dr. Baxamusa knew better. He recommended Vitamin E patches. They worked marvelously. After several months of bandaging the area with a Vitamin E patch each night, the sliver worked its way out of the softened skin tissue. No surgery, no recovery, no healing. Just a knowledgeable evaluation by a wonderful, experienced and caring doctor. I am elated and so grateful for Dr. Baxamusa's wise counseling.

For 2 years my hands suffered from carpal tunnel. Then I went to Dr. Baxamusa at IBJI. He operated on both hands six weeks apart. The result was like a miracle. I could once again pick up small objects, feel the difference between hot & cold/wet & dry. The horrible night pains in my hands are now gone.

This was an absolutely horrible experience. This man talked down to me and belittled me. He spent maybe 10 seconds squeezing my hands very hard, and told me my problem wasn't surgical and he didn't take care of patients who didn't need surgery. He talked over me when I tried to tell him what was wrong, then just got up and left the room. He spent maybe 3-5 minutes with me, mostly talking about himself. Then he billed me for 45 minutes. I received no treatment for my problem. I would not recommend this person or their business for medical care.

After watching Dr. Baxamusa’s video I scheduled an appointment. He asked a few questions, asked me to bend my finger, told me that the previous surgery left scars and any further surgery would make it worse. He told me he had a similar loss of motion due to a poisonous spider bite: I should take NSAIDs (which if he had at least looked at my questionnaire would have known I cannot take) and try bending it. His pager went off, he got up and on the way out said sorry boss you will have to live with it. After a few minutes I guessed I was done, so I left. My visit took less than five minutes surely not enough time for me to process the facts. I thought that after waiting an hour that I could leave with something conclusive regarding a plan of action concerning my lack of motion and pain and was surprised that a doctor would act so far below the standard of how a doctor should act. Visiting this doctor may be fruitful for some but for me it was disappointing and waste of time.

After falling off of a fence and injuring my hand/wrist, I went to the ER who referred me to Taizoon. He ordered a series of x-rays, could not find a break, but insisted on an MRI because he claimed that he was convinced there was a break. I’m sure that typically works given the information asymmetry he enjoys over his patients but I am well informed in this domain. Not wanting to get an MRI just to “confirm” a break because that seems like an unnecessary step, I asked if we could just treat it like it’s broken and get me a cast for 4 weeks. I explained myself. I said that I will not get surgery for this and didn’t think an MRI would benefit me in any way. The results of my MRI would not change the treatment or rehab process so in my case, MRI was wholly unnecessary. He said “this is not a debate. I am going to follow the guidelines.” I am not up to date on the guidelines, but I highly doubt that immediate MRI is the guideline in my case. Given that early MRI is associated with increased medical costs and increased disability in back pain patients, and the high rate of incidental “pathology” like tears, degenration, arthritis, etc, in asymptomatic populations, I saw no benefit in getting the MRI. Only potential iatrogenic consequences. On the IBJI website, his profile says “I believe that the patient really knows best about what the “problem” is. Together, we can work upon a solution. Once the patient is properly educated about their condition, they can better participate in their care and rehabilitation.” This is as laughable. Nothing about my experience made me think anything but “this doctor thinks I’m a literal pawn. My opinions and feelings are inconsequential.” He checked every box of the arrogant doctor stereotype. He didn’t care about my personal situation, he cared about scoring another surgery with an MRI fishing expedition. Let’s see what we can find! The nurse apologized to me about the situation. She seemed like she was used to seeing this behavior from him. Taizoon is neither a good person nor a good doctor. He seems to have forgotten his Oath in many ways. Primum non nocere. Informed consent. I know the state of musculoskeletal medicine here is not the greatest, but this was the worst experience. Very upsetting. I will never go to IBJJ or refer any of my clients there because of Taizoon. I can deal with arrogance IF I am actually being helped. I asked for a note to get back to work. Despite not knowing anything about my condition besides there not being any visible breaks, he gave me a note with a bunch of restrictions. Restrictions that would prevent me from working! He performed no functional tests, his note was pure conjecture! With x rays at IBJJ AND at the ER, and with no functional tests or screens given, there was no logical or evidence based reasoning for the restrictions he put on The note. I felt as though this was his way of putting me in a position where I had to get the MRI. I left IBJI very upset. The next day I called my PCP and explained the situation. I told him that there was a zero percent chance I would get surgery. He responded, “well then there is no reason to get an MRI.” I knew that, but was glad to hear it from my PCP. He actually cares about me while Taizoon sees $$$ when he sees me. After falling off of a fence and injuring my hand/wrist, I went to the ER who referred me to Taizoon. I was having issues with my wrist & thumb, so I was referred to Dr. Baxamusa. Before even seeing him, I was asked by a medical assistant what x-rays I wanted... wrist, hand, thumb, etc. It seemed odd that I was picking them myself instead of a doctor meeting me and suggesting what was best. I finally met him for a few minutes (literally less then 10 minutes) and he told me I didn’t need surgery and which splint to buy off Amazon. He also told me to do OT downstairs for a few weeks and that was it. I still have NO IDEA how to care for this injury. Do I need to ice it? Rest it? Take Advil? How did I cause it? How can I avoid it in the future? NOTHING!!! I actually had to google it and try to figure out how to treat it myself. Also, he mentioned NOTHING about whats going on with my thumb. I’m still in pain and still don’t know how to make it better other than “I don’t need surgery”. He was polite and seems to know his stuff, it just would have been nice if he had actually told me ANYTHING to help me or alleviate my pain or fix my wrist issues. De Baxamusa was phenomenal. Pleasant. Decisive. Inclusive in making decisions. Taught me about my conditions and treated me on the spot. No come back and we will do the following: None of that. He treated me and I was impressed. The staff were pleasant , conversational and made me feel comfortable. I believe her name is Chris. Great communicator and kind. Helped me with forms due to vision loss. It was appreciated. The young lady from x-ray was kind and allowed me to understand what she was doing. Thorough and Covid compliant. It is appreciated. The desk staff were open and engaged with each individual and treated them like an individual not a number. Well done. The occupational therapist was fast snd kind. I was referred to Dr. Baxamusa at IBJI by my rheumatologist, Dr. Ami Kothari. I sought her out because last summer I began to experience stiff, swollen joints in both hands, all fingers. Previously only my thumbs seemed affected, and I managed, but when it moved to my entire hand, I knew it was time for a rheumatologist. I don’t have RA, but appear to have an inflammatory element to a mild case of arthritis. I eventually developed trigger thumb, which has been truly awful. Dr. Kothari gave me an injection in my trigger thumb, but it didn’t do the trick (which she thought might happen), so she referred me to Dr. Baxamusa. Dr. Baxamusa’s bedside manner was amazing. He was kind, respectful, explained everything to me very well, and most importantly, he listened to me. He explained that he wanted to give me another injection in the trigger thumb, because his are more, shall we say, intense and focused. I have a high pain tolerance but I admit I squirmed and squeaked a bit. However, we kept talking and it made it go by faster. He said I should feel an improvement in a couple weeks, as the steroid works on lessening the inflammation in my thumb. He explained that surgery is the last resort, and if this injection doesn’t work, we’ll pursue it then. I felt very good about my visit with Dr. Baxamusa, he was congenial and easy to talk to, and I trust his treatment plan. He also prescribed a thumb brace for my other hand (no trigger thumb but painful inflammation at the base joint), which I got from the occupational therapist that day, and it already feels better, and more supported, so I’d have to say, he knows his stuff! I recently had surgery at the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute in Morton Grove. My doctor at that facility, Dr. Baxamusa is an active listener and the best doctor ever. We discussed at great length the current numbness in my fingers, loss of muscle mass and finger functionality. He described in layman’s terms what typically causes that type of condition with the hand. He explained the test, procedures and timing that would help confirm his initial diagnosis. When I left his office I felt very comfortable and had a great understanding of next steps and the timing involved. Following my doctor appointments and appropriate tests I had Ulnar Nerve Transposition outpatient surgery and it went extremely well. I experience very little pain and after the first day was able to use over the counter pain meds and an ice pack. I have followed up with Dr. Baxamusa after surgery and have been doing my recommended rehab. I could not be more pleased with the results, he’s the best. Which is why I am writing this review and recommendation. If you are looking for the best all-around orthopedic surgeon go with my first hand recommendation. Dr Baxamusa literally saved my life in 2017. I had a weird stiffness and swelling in my wrist that no doctor could explain, and after about a week of monitoring my symptoms and scanning my wrist, he knew that something was going on. He rushed me to be admitted to the hospital, ordering a lung xray. Turned out, I had a critical fungal lung infection and some of that was pushed to my wrist. Baxamusa did surgery the next day to remove the abscess in my wrist and did a culture on it, which was the first test to discover what was causing me to almost stop breathing. If it weren't for him, I would not be alive today. Also, just to speak on him as a doctor and person, he is an incredibly fun person to be around and is very nice. He showed serious interest in making sure that I was healthy the moment he saw me, and I could feel it in how he was acting. This "Doctor" so called "specialist" is a complete JOKE!! After waiting forever he pops in for 5 minutes . Telling me theres nothing he can do i have a lump on the palm side of my middle finger. And yes i have bit of dry skin. He claims he cant to anything because the area is too dry. Are you kidding me?? Refused treatment. But he sure didnt refuse to take my money . This so called Doctor is a complete waste of my time and a big joke !!!

1 hour late, spent less than 5 minutes talking to me before sending me home with no conclusion or help
