Dr. Thomas Anthony Ciulla

I was in need of a vitrectomy in each eye when Dr. Ciulla was highly recommended to me by someone i trust. I could not be happier that he was. Dr. Ciulla performed a vitrectomy on my left eye in November and another on my right eye in January. Both were highly successful. The vision in my left eye is better than it has been in years. I still have a bit of a bubble in my right eye, but even with the incomplete healing, the vision in that eye is significantly improved. Dr. Ciulla is friendly and thoughtful. He takes the time to make sure you are comfortable with what he is doing, but he is a no-nonsense professional in the operating room while he does it. Dr. Ciulla, is simply awesome.

Dr. Ciulla is an EXCELLENT doctor. He is so caring and compassionate also. I had no idea there was a procedure to remove floaters in my eye that had been there for years and caused such blurry vision. Dr. Ciulla explained the procedure very well to me. I am so happy I had it done. My vision is awesome and I see so clear now. Thank you, Dr. Ciulla! Don't let the waiting room intimidate you. If you have to wait a little, he if definitely worth the wait. I strongly recommend Dr. Ciulla for retinal surgeries.

Both my husband and I have been under Dr. Cuilla's care. How glad we are that we were steered to his office! Dr. Cuilla performed retinal surgery on my husband and then on me a year later. We both experienced excellent results. Dr. Cuilla is very, very good at treating retinal issues. The staff is always very professional. We highly recommend him.

I had a Great experience with Dr Ciulla. I went to him to have consultation due to a large cloud of floaters in my right eye. He was beyond patient during our initial appointments before I decided to have surgery. He took unlimited time and answered every question. The day of surgery his team put me at ease and the procedure was quick and painless. Within a week my vision was once again 20/20. I am beyond happy that I had this done. I would and will recommend Dr Ciulla to everyone.

Yes, I definitely have and will continue to toot the horn for the wonderful eye treatment from Dr Tom Chuilla and the team of professionals at Midwest Eye Institute. If a patient has a big time floater issue, I recommend a consultation with Dr. Chuilla. He has a wonderful way of keeping the patient informed of the process, risks and post operation treatments. I have gone from virtually looking through a screen door to crystal clear vision.

1st Class! Dr, Ciulla is on the ball, knows what he is doing and does it very well. For me, I had the best outcome I thought possible, I was diagnosed, treated and on the mend in no time, same day!! Been to my own optician for post exam, my own doctor gave extensive testing and was very complementary on the results of my operation, very impressed.

I had a series of visits prior to surgery and a few after surgery. All visits, including the surgery were top notch professional care. Dr. Cuilla explained everything and answered all questions thoroughly. He scheduled a post-op follow up on Saturday, when the offices were closed. He took very good care of me.

As a clay target shooter, my ability to see and recognize targets was being affected by floaters. Dr. Ciulla came recommended and I understand why. My vitrectomy went flawlessly. I can't be happier about the results. No floaters in my dominate eye. Also had no pain. Can't be more pleased with the Doctor and his entire staff. Top Notch!

I have had obstructive floaters for a long time. My Eye doctor recommended that I try YAG laser first. I had both eyes treated using YAG vitreolysis twice on each eye. The results did not help. I read about vitectomy and it seemed that this might help. I asked my family eye doctor for a referral to Dr. Ciulla and was able to get an appointment for an evaluation. Everyone In Dr. Ciulla’s office was helpful, professional and very pleasant. Dr. Ciulla determined that I was indeed a candidate for vitrectomy and I was able to schedule the procedure in a timely manner. From the nurses, Dr. Ciulla and the anesthesiologist, everyone was very professional and made me feel relaxed and comfortable. The procedure went well with only very minor pain. After the procedure, an eye patch was placed over the affected eye and I was scheduled for a follow up exam the next day. Within 7-10 days my vision was back to normal without the floaters. I would highly recommend Dr. Ciulla and staff.

Dr. Ciulla is probably one of the best eye doctors I have been to. I had cataract surgery done by another physician who tore the lens pocket, and I was sent to Dr. Ciulla for repair. I needed a vitrectomy, which he did that day. He fit me in, and treated me with utmost care and respect. Very confident while caring. I had some bleeding issues which he cured/fixed immediately. I have had many eye issues in the past, but he has helped with with all and I am very thankful for his help and expert work.

I had a vitrectomy done on each eye this year 10 months apart. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Ciulla and the care I received. The surgeries involved very little discomfort and the recovery from both was quick. The procedures removed very large floaters from my eyes and has made my vision so much better. I wish I had gone to see Dr Ciulla sooner.

Promptness of appointment time was excellent, even though I was a late add on. I needed surgery and he was able to accommodate that service that day! Every aspect of my journey with him was explained in detail, which gave me great comfort. The staff is awesome and very helpful. I am healing nicely and very thankful, I would highly recommend Dr. Ciulla.

I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to receive my surgery from Dr. Ciulla! His skill level, courtesy, and caring is unprecedented! I had the same problem one year ago, and I had to have two surgeries in two weeks from the other provider I went to in a different city. His lack of caring, argumentative staff, and undesirable surroundings was terrible. I asked friends with similar problems and the common referral was Dr. Ciulla. When my retina detached in my other eye last month, I refused to go to their surgeon and requested Dr. Ciulla. I was amazed that he told my optometrist to send me right down and while I was on my way, his staff had already booked the surgery room. All of this on a Friday afternoon for a new patient!

I was extremely pleased with the care and treatment of Dr. Ciulla and his staff! It was a very positive experience!

Dr. Ciulla's credentials and contributions to macular and retinal health and treatment are most impressive. I strongly encourage you to read them. But beyond the professional accolades, I discovered that Dr. Ciulla is a caring and warm human being. He listened intently and explained options in a way I understood without having to have my thesaurus handy. His approach made me a partner as well as a patient. His staff is a reflection of the man. Caring, friendly, competent and always professional.

Dr. Ciulla's credentials seemed very impressive but his practice is like a meat market - get in and get out as fast as possible. Instead of him listening to my questions, he actually handed me an iPad with a video to watch and then he quickly walked out. Worst bedside manner on the plane. He left an assistant in the room who could not answer anything. His bill was earth-shattering but my insurance company handled it and denied his excessive fee. Go to someone who cares or at least acts like it.

I had seen an eye doctor which told me I had problems with both eyes and I had to see a Retina Specialist. I contacted Dr Ciulla' s office and they scheduled me the following day. Must note.....that the other eye doctor wanted to send me to someone else a month later. Glad I did not wait! I seen Dr Ciulla and found out I had a torn retina in my left eye, which he done laser surgery that same day to repair it. He also done surgery on my left eye a few weeks later! Excellent Dr. And Staff!

Dr. Ciulla fixed my second retinal detachment, and I was barely off work for maybe a long weekend. I had the first fixed by another dr. in Indy, and the recovery time was 8 weeks :( Dr. CIULLA FTW!!! A+++

Dr. Ciulla was very helpful, courteous, and professional when I recently visited him for a detached retina. He explained exactly what the surgery would be like and the aftercare process. The office staff and nurses were all accommodating and friendly, in order to take care of my procedure. I was very much pleased with Dr. Ciulla and the staff at Midwest Eye Institute and would highly recommend them to others. My operation was a success and I have my vision completely restored again.

I was referred to Dr. Ciulla because of a tear in my retina, later it became a partially detached retina, which required immediate surgery. He and his staff were very professional and made me feel very safe and reassured through the whole process. I pray I never have to go thru this again. Tho the exams and surgeries were painless and quick, the recovery seemed to go on forever! But with their care I came through safely and everything is back on track. Thank you to the doctor & staff!A+++++++

Having previously had 2 surgeries on my left eye for a torn / detached retina from an ophthalmologist in Muncie, starting 9Sep16. I sought a referral from my optometrist. Dr. Ciulla saw me in two days; along with the most thorough eye exam I've ever experienced. He actually told me "how" I was seeing at the time, and he was completely correct. Surgery was 1 week later. I cannot thank Dr. Ciulla enough for getting me in so quickly, and especially how I can now SEE! Highly recommended to anyone.

my right t retina detached and tore in two places. In about 36 hours I had lost about 70% of my vision. The operating center was booked until 6:00 PM. Dr. Ciulla and his staff came in to do surgery on my eye. After surgery of 45 minutes to 1 hour, Dr. Ciulla told me we are 100% successful. My eye has healed and sight is as good as ever. I told Dr. Ciulla that “I thanked the Lord daily for him, his skills and for his team”. I would and do recommend Dr. Ciulla.

Dr Ciulla saved my mom's vision! He explained everything to my parents and I. His staff was friendly and efficient. It made a bad situation as good as it could be. I'd never heard of having a shot in your eye. It sounded so scary. It was so quick and virtually painless for my mom. She has since passed away, but she spoke very highly of Dr. C from the beginning. We were so lucky to be referred to such a great doctor. Thanks so much!!

Dr. Ciulla has been my eye doctor since I first visited him around August 1999. I was having trouble with my vision and did not know that I had a detached retina in my right eye. He was employed with the I.U. Medical Center and it was late in the day, near closing. He immediately performed surgery on my eye bur informed me beforehand that it may not work. It didn't and he subsequently placed a scleral buckle behind my eye. Later, the retina in my left eye detached and was repaired by laser.

I started symptoms of a retina detaching on Tuesday. Seeing spots and flashes, then started losing my peripheral vision. I thought my eye was swollen but in actuality, my retina was detaching. It was a little more noticeable on Saturday but again, I blew it off. I went to dinner with friends at 400pm that Sunday and I quickly was loosing my vision. I went immediately to the ER and they diagnosed me with a 100% detached retina. I cried because I knew what was happening but I refused to believe it. I saw Dr. Ciulla on Monday morning and he confirmed the diagnosis of a retinal detachment.He stated I needed surgery immediately and got me in first thing on Tuesday morning. Dr. Ciulla was cautiously optimistic but advised me he would not know until after surgery. Dr. Ciulla and his staff were beyond wonderful. They were so kind, professional and competent- I have worked in healthcare for over 25 years and I have worked with a lot of physicians and physician practices, and I cannot tell you how well I was treated. I saw Dr. Ciulla again on Wednesday and he stated everything looked fine. Post surgically, he told me all of what he did- I had a Scleral Buckle placed around my eye and then microsurgery. The staff explained to me what the procedure was, how and why this was done. Post surgery, I had to wear eye patches for a while, and in the middle of the healing process, something went wrong. I could hardly blink, it hurt so bad; I called Dr. Ciulla's office and his staff got me in and he worked me in and found that I had scratched my cornea... IDK how but I did. He Rx antibiotic ointment and saw me a week later and stated both the retina and the cornea were healing nicely.It is a scary thing to lose your eye sight and every time any little thing came up, I called the office. It was a daily thing for a few weeks.The office staff were so accepting and answered my questions and scheduled me when I needed checked out.I cannot tell you how wonderful Dr. Ciulla's staff is. Everyone in that office is committed to the highest level of care for each and every patient. I would like to say a special thank you to- Amanda, Cindi, Tammy, Shyla and Allison for caring. I know they are super busy but every time I would call or come in, I was treated with respect, understanding, kindness and a genuine concern for my well being.As I would sit in the waiting room noting the variety and age of the patients in there was a wide spectrum of ages. The staff was so kind and respectful, there were a lot of older folks than me and some of them hard of hearing and most of the time, since the staff recognized them, they would approach and call their name and assisted those in need to the exam room. Today was my last visit with Dr. Ciulla and staff- it was a very bitter sweet day. I got a full release, I have 100% sight in my eye and am now able to get my new lens prescription and I'm back in business. I would highly recommend Dr.Ciulla and his team for your eye care treatment. Dr. Ciulla is what I call a quietly competent doctor. Another doctor performed 2 retinal operations, including an unnecessary schleral buckle, then said he couldn't help me any further and said I would never see better than the biggest E on the eye chart. Dr. Ciulla saved my sight with 2 less invasive surgeries, and now I have enough of my sight back to read with the help of glasses. Dr. Ciulla is knowledgable and has been doing retinal surgery a long time. If he recommends that you see a different specialist, then he certainly has a reason.

His only outcome measure was acuity so he will count my surgery as successful. But I still have the same problem with metamorphopsia that I had before surgery. It doesn't seem to matter to him that I can't see to do my work. I felt rushed with him and don't know if it was because he had to get back to the factory of patients or because he was uncomfortable knowing I still couldn't see.

Performed floater-removal surgery on both eyes for both me and my wife. Also, had to do retinal laser surgery on one of my eyes. Everything went very well. We followed all instructions and medication. Dr Ciulla was very patient with us and answered all our questions. After much research, he seemed to be the most qualified for miles around. We are every pleased and would HIGHLY recommend his services.

Very rough while doing eye surgery. He messed up my eye muscle causing me to wear a thick lense to correct my vision. Not a good bedside manner

Disappointing,pointless,treated like a waste of his time and absolutely no compassion. Wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy!!!! He told me I needed to see a Neuro opthomoligis But didn't help with referring me to anyone. He didn't even give me a full eye exam! I will drive to another state before ever going back to him!!! Wish I could give half stars or less. Doesn't deserve a full star!

In December my son had a sledding accident which caused the rupture of the lense on his left eye. He was seen by both Dr. Ciulla and Dr. Deitch of the Midwest Eye Institute. After examining my son's eye, an emergency surgery was scheduled for the same day. He was recently seen for his final post-op visit. The surgery was very successful with the best possible outcome.
