About Thomas S. Ellison
Reviews for Thomas S. Ellison
This doctor cares nothing about his patients, especially if you're in pain and leave his office crying! Sends you to pain management as routine care! I won't be going back.

The most rude and arrogant person I have ever met. Came for lower back and leg pain following a car wreck. It’s been almost a year now and every appointment with him consisted of waiting more than an hour to “speak” with him. Meeting with him was nothing more than him looking at my x-rays and telling me I am exaggerating my back pain. And that if it was really that bad, then I would agree to surgery. (Terrified of surgery) and I am SO young for surgery. He concluded with “you are fine, I am going to discharge you, oh and also, you need to quit eating all of that fast food, you’ve gained a lot of weight since the last time I saw you”
Worst doctor Iâve ever seen! I was warned about his bedside manner, but this man didnât even care about any concerns, did answer any questions and was an arrogant jerk! On top of it, he completely lied in his notes! Iâve never been treated so badly by a do!
Very rude doctor, did not answer my questions, said the dr. I had before when I was hospitalized for a week because I couldn’t move my legs was wrong. He cut me off when you tried to talk. Total waste of time and money.
Dr. Ellison performed an emergency ACDF surgery on me nearly 6 months ago. Due to the condition of my vertebrae, the complexity of my surgery was very high. My surgery was extremely successful and I was able to walk within hours afterwards. I have been blessed with continued improvement since and I have the utmost respect and admiration for him. He is a skilled surgeon. It is highly likely that I am able to walk today because of his expertise in his field.
I was referred to him after I fell and hurt my back. ER did X-ray, said no breaks, just back strain. I was in terrible pain for 4 more days until my appointment with him. They put me in a room, told me to undress and put a gown on. I struggled to get my top off and in walked Dr Ellison. I held my top in front of me as he said âwell, no breaks. Weâll start you on PT upstairsâ. He started to walk out and I said âwait, what about the extreme pain Iâm in. Itâs hard to breathe it hurts so bad.â He said he would prescribe something, it was Tramadol for spasms. I told my friend Iâve never felt like this about a Dr and would not come back. I found another spine Dr who immediately ordered an MRI. I had a compression fracture. If I had started PT, I could have done more damage. He should not be practicing.
Dr. Ellison and his staff are professional all the way. The office is running very precisely and the care is excellent. Thank you to Dr. Ellison and his staff for giving me my life back.
Dr Ellison is nothing short of a miracle Man. Dr Ellison surgery relieved excruciating pain I was suffering. I'll never forget Dr Ellison. My surgery was almost 4 years ago! Thank you with all my heart Dr Ellison!
Had a lot of back pain over 30 yrs of my life always tried chiropractic. After a while it no longer worked. Tried injections they were temporary. Decided on surgery. What a major change in my life. Dr Ellison is the greatest Dr he took his time telling me the procedure and exactly what he was planning to do. The procedure took 11 hours . I feel like a million dollars. 6 months later I'm playing golf again. Thanks Dr Ellison Had a lot of back pain over 30 yrs of my life always tried chiropractic. After a while it no longer worked. Run away from this guy as fast as you can. He is by far the most arrogant and useless medical professional I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. He has a problem with listening because he knows all I believe. There is no redeeming quality to this man or his staff.
You can't get a better surgeon. He is the best. I am a disabled American veteran and was referred to him via the VA community care network. How lucky I am they did! After performing L3, L4, L5, S1 fusion I am able to walk and enjoy life again. No massive surgery is going to make a person 100% better so keep your expectations real. If you're looking for sign off on Social Security Disability he's not the guy. He's seen all the scams so find another doctor. Some people complain about his "bedside manor" but when it comes to spinal surgery, he's the smartest guy in the room every time. Cannot recommend him enough if your looking for relief. He's in demand so he is very efficient with his appointments. The guy really wants to help everyone he can.
I will definitely recommend Dr. Ellison to family and friends Dr. Ellison is for sure the go to doctor!!’ I had prior gone to him for disk replacements in my neck. He was so kind and caring. Just recently I had a follow up visit with Him but I also had another problem. Even though my problem had nothing to with what he specializes in. He went above and beyond, to find someone to help me!!! I can’t thank you enough Dr Ellison for what u did for me.
Will never recommend! Absolutely appalled with his attitude and professionalism! I waited for an hour an a half and he spent five minutes with me. He interrupted the entire time and never even finished discussing my history or the reason for my visit. He looked at my MRI for maybe 10 seconds and said it looked normal, that he couldnât explain my pain. He said he could do surgery, because he likes doing surgery, but it wouldnât help. I hope Tidelands seriously reconsiders having him on their team.
Will never recommend. I don’t leave reviews but this was the worst appointment I’ve ever had. I spent 1 1/2 hours there and he spent 5 min with me. He interrupted the entire time, he never even heard what I had to say. He spent all of 10 seconds looking at my MRI and said it looked normal. That he could do surgery because he likes doing surgery but it wouldn’t help. He didn’t talk to me about alternatives and he said he has no idea why my neck has been hurting for 7 years. He basically didn’t give me the time of day. It was a waste of time and money.
The guy marches in with his P.A. wearing ridiculous cowboy boots like Agarn from F-Troop, never making eye contact but instead asking questions while looking at the Physicians assistant? Odd behavior for a doctor...Anyway for some reason he did not have a firm grasp of my particular condition and when I offered to show him the scans I brought so I could help him clarify my condition he declined. He still has no clue as to what my problem was aside from general back pain. He didn't answer any important questions and seemed confused and chippy at the same time. I waited 2 months for this garbage? He decided to recommend a pain management doctor because he apparently didn't want to spend anymore than three total minutes to help diagnose my concerns. As I left I heard him yucking it up to his colleague's about his golf game. WTH? Words can't really describe the rudeness and apathy exhibited by this 'surgeon'. Not sure I'd trust him with a box cutter to open a package let alone back surgery
I recently had spine surgery by Dr Ellison after 5 years of suffering in pain and failing all conservative treatments. I was very nervous selecting a surgeon and have seen a few. I was impressed by Dr Ellison. He sat and went over my MRI and explained options. He discussed my fairly young age (57) and my activity level which is very active. He went into the pros and cons of the procedures considered. I am a retired hospital nurse and bedside manner is very important to me. I felt confident under his care. He had me come in to the office one more time the week before to go over the surgery one more time to make sure we were both on the same page which I totally respected. I have only lived in Myrtle Beach for 7 years and since I’m retired I had little experience with physicians as I would have had if I was still in NJ. I had 8 hour surgery on a Monday and went home on Wednesday afternoon. His expertise has made my recovery easy. Other than some pain I am feeling very positive

In August, 2018, my husband had an accident while we were vacationing in SC. Dr. Ellison performed an eight-hour emergency surgery to save my husband's neck and spine, and we couldn't be more pleased. His bedside manner, his opinions, his patient care and even out-of-state follow-up continue to amaze us. We were only tourists, but he made us feel like family during my husband's recovery, and even helped us locate an excellent spine surgeon back home to continue treatment. Dr. Ellison is THE MAN. On vacation from out-of-state and my husband broke his back/neck in three places. Dr. Ellison pulled a crew together and performed an emergency eight-hour surgery on a Saturday, knowing our situation. He checked in on my two young sons daily and brought them snacks and treats while their dad was in the ICU. He’s a straight-shooter, yet kind, and I totally trust his opinion. He even helped us find a follow-up doctor in our home state. Nothing but good things to say about this man.

He is very rude and unsympathetic. He doesn't allow you to answer his questions before cutting you off. He said that I was one of these people who have surgeries from another doctor and come down here to expect him to fix it. I was living in another state when my 3 previous spinal surgeries had to happen. He said if my other doctor fixed an area in my low back, why would I be hurting. When I told tried to tell him why, he cut me off.
I had a plate out in my neck from C-3-4 to C-5-6 December 2016. Still in horrible pain and I regret having Dr. Ellison perform my surgery. Every time i had a follow up appointment he could not help me, he would state that it is muscle pain. I feel like he messed me up even more than before the surgery. if i could take it all back i would for now i am seeking second opinion and starting all over again. Dr. Ellison is not someone i would recommend. please do your research on him!!!

2 Weeks Post Op ~ 2nd Fusion w/Dr Ellison who cleaned up & added additional levels following the trauma of an auto accident . This could easily be a novel ~ but being limited to 500 words won't do a great surgeon justice. Dr Scott Ellison is truly worth taking time to write about. When making my initial decision, I found Dr Ellison to be the surgeon that other medical professionals chose ~ which speaks volumes. He's extremely passionate about what he does ~ an expert in his field. Easy Choice!

I saw Dr. Ellison and found him very dismissive of my condition and concerns. He basically took no X-Rays and only questioned me about my concerns, no real examination. When I called back to question why no x-rays were ordered, I was told he did this normally and would reevaluate at follow-up appointment. I found it very odd, that no X-Ray at minimum were ordered? I went to another Orthopedic Dr. and was extensively examined and X-ray's/MRI Ordered. Found disk abnormalities. Injections working!
About two years ago Dr. Ellison preformed a spinal decompression on my L4 and L5 and spinal fission. About 5 to 6 months later I had reoccurring back pain. He said and I quote " I do not chase back pain. He sent me to the Pain Clinic. 12 months of treatment the pain kept getting worse. I went to another DR. who will shake your hand. Found that I have a herniated disc. Worse Doctor I ever had. Wait time in waiting over an hour plus 30 to 40 wait time in exam room.

Rudest physician I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Judgmental and very prejudice. This "doctor" was more concerned with dishing out unneeded, unwanted and completely irrelevant 'shame on you' advice than even discussing the reason we were in his office. Refused to discuss the herniated disc....completely! So I would just like to say....It's not your job to figure out the storm God has ask someone to walk through. You are no where close to being worthy enough of those shoes.
Rudest Doctor we have ever met! Super huge Ego. Staff IS GREAT! He interrupts/doesn't let you speak. Said other doctors think they are God. He needs to look in the mirror. Totally UNHELPFUL! Zero compassion. Didn't perform a thorough neurology test as we found out after going to the SE Spine Institute. He missed a simple "toe test" that could have saved weeks of agony. Would not prescribe PAIN meds. Did not explain MRI at all! Wouldn't do surgery. SE Spine said surgery was only option. HORRIBLE!
