Dr. Thorsten Markus Seyler

Dr Seyler cancelled surgery 2 days before its scheduled date to testify as an expert witness. He called it an inconvenience for me after I waited 3 months, went through a number of appointments and tests related to the surgery, have a lot of trouble walking with the pain and had planned for someone to come in and help me during the weeks after surgery. Now I have to start all over. I feel his actions reflect an uncaring physician who doesn't relate well to his patients.

Very, very good doctor and orthopedic surgeon. I am satisfied with my total knee replacement. I was referred to him especially since I have neuropathy and was concerned about having total knee replacement. I am doing well and I am quite pleased. Sept. 2020

Dr. Seyler is an amazing & extremely talented Orthopedic Surgeon at Duke University Hospital.. Following 4 failed knee surgeries in Richmond, VA combined with agonizing pain, I was told that there was nothing that could be done to help me. Dr. Seyler was 1 of 7 Orthopaedic Surgeons in the WORLD who agreed to look at my case. He studied my case & said that he could fix it. He performed a Revision of Total Knee Arthroplasty along with addressing my Prosthetic Joint Infection. Dr. Seyler is so skilled & extraordinary that not only did he fix my leg but somehow stopped all of my pain. Dr. Seyler is compassionate and kind with great communication skills. Dr. Seyler replaced my left knee in Sept and my right knee in December of 2020. The surgeries went smoothly, he explained what he was going to do and what I needed to do for my best recovery results. I could not be happier with the outcome and I am on my way to my old active lifestyle that I had given up. I highly recommend Dr. Seyler, Duke Orthopedic team, and the surgical team at Duke University Medical Center.

Thus far it has been great. I have had several orthopedic surgeries due to a military accident. I was most impressed with Dr. Seyler’s attention to detail when it comes to infections as well as his willingness to employee the latest technology when performing surgery.

Twenty days ago Dr Seyler performed a total right hip replacement on me. From my first encounter with him and his staff to my follow up visits while hospitalized at Duke and in office this week, I could not have asked for a better experience. Dr Seyler is an intelligent, personable, hands-on professional. My results are amazing. After a week, I was getting around, with the assistance of a walker, better than a long while before the surgery. I am so grateful. I highly recommend Dr Seyler. My experience with Dr. Seyler was excellent. He explained every aspect of my knee surgery and what I should expect long term in easy to understand terms. I would recommend him to anyone needing a knee replacement and would go to him again if I needed further surgery.

Great surgeon who cares about his patients. Would not use anyone else.

Hello to all. I recently visited Dr. Seyler’s office about 2 months ago. He had been referred to me by my Surgeon at NYU in Manhattan. I have had several knee replacement surgeries on my right leg and the last one became infected. I required a two stage revision surgery. My NYU surgeon is Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf and I reccomend him highly. He was always there, either by phone, text or email. He performed the Stage Two Revision Surgery. I was on crutches and a walker for about 6 months and then was able to walk once again. Upon moving to North Carolina ia, I developed a boil on my right leg once again. This can be an indication of the past infection returning. I then visited Dr. Seyler’s office and am having a very bad experience. About three weeks ago the doctor’s PA called me to tell me that my Lab Results had come back negative and she told me their wasn’t any infection. She then told me that Dr. Seyler had recommended my leg be amputated above the knee. I was quite shocked because it didn’t make sense. No infection but knee amputation! I was definitively confused about her answer. I should have questioned her further but I was definitely shaken and didn’t think of questions. Many of my good friends had asked why the doctor didn’t call me in for an office visit to tell me the bad news. They said it was very unprofessional and I certainly agree. A few days later I placed a call to Dr Seyler’s office asking him to please return my call. That was over week ago. The number I was given put me in contact with the Triage team at Duke University. During one call they told me the doctor had received all five of my messages and they could not explain why the doctor was not calling me back. The doctor called me back last Friday the 26th and left me a message that he would call again on Monday. Well today is Wednesday and despite leaving four more messages, I have not received a call back. When I met with the doctor, he told me my knee was infected and since he was a doctor who thought outside of the box, I was impressed with his ideas of how to help me. Over the period of one and a half months they took two cultures of the fluid in my knee. When the results came back as I mentioned before, I was told by the doctor’s PA ( Sarah Curry) that their wasn’t an infection and the tests were negative. You can imagine my frustration having been told my leg would be amputated above the knee and then not being able to contact the doctor who decided upon that measure. I have decided to write this review and will update it as new events occur. I am not one to jump at writing negative reviews but I’m feeling other people should be able to read how I’m being treated. 10/30/2018 I just placed my 6th call to his office with no results. I also tried to call the Doctor on the number he called me on but their wasn’t any voicemail option and the phone line was disconnected. Hello to all.
