Started going to NY Spine & pain management a month before going in for a total ankle replacement on 12/1/20. From day one I had issues trying to reach them when they put my pain meds through to the pharmacy for 60 pills but wrote to take one a day before bed. The pharmacy had trouble reaching them for a week as did I with no success of reaching them until my follow up visit one week later which was supposed to be to see how I was handling the new meds, but I never got them because they screwed up the script and could not be reached! Going into surgery they told me to call AS SOON as I got home from surgery so they can adjust my new pain meds accordingly. I am now 7 days post operation and I am in a tremendous amount of pain and have been unable to reach them. I have left five messages over the course of six days with no response back until just now when I called again and used the option that I was a doctors office calling. The lady who answered recognized my name right away from the messages I left and outright lied and said someone called and left a message for me earlier which was a lie because the office just opened and she was the only one there at the moment, there was NO recent calls from their office and NO voicemail on my phone. She was able to give me a phone appointment for today at 10:15am, 7 days post operation and in excruciating pain!! Thanks for nothing! As soon as I am stable I will find another office and will never refer this office to anyone. I first went back in December with severe neck and shoulder pain. The first visit dr. Johnson sat with me and listened to everything I said. He is very nice but I didn’t feel like he really listened to me fully. He told me I needed to go get an mri and X-ray so I made the apt. They also had me do a urine sample and when I asked what it was for they said “it’s just routine”. Okay no problem. I go get the mri and X-ray done, then 2 weeks later I go back to see dr. Johnson thinking he will go over my results and come up with a game plan. Instead they have me come into this procedure room, lay face down on the table for an injection. When he comes in I ask if he will go over my results and he asked me what my last name was and where my pain was. I found it extremely concerning that he was about to inject a large needle into my spine and didn’t know who I was or where my pain was. He pulls up my charts at this point and tells me he wouldn’t do this if he didn’t think it would help, so I let him do it, well it didn’t work. It was extremely painful, and after he did it he just got up and walked out, no after care instructions, no expectations. I had to call the office afterward to ask if I could take Advil because I was in so much pain, they told me “we didn’t tell you not to take it because you can take it.” Probably should have been a sign to never go back but I did go back for a follow up 2 weeks later. He was shocked I was in worse pain and did 4 shots of steroids from my neck down to my shoulder. The shots made me immediately nauseous and I felt like I was going to pass out. He walked out, told someone to get me water. It took 10 min to bring me water then no one ever came back to see if I was okay. 20 min later I figured I would rather go pass out in the car with my mom on the phone than sit there any longer. I was supposed to have a follow up 2 weeks later which they called an hour before the time of apt to reschedule for later that day. I called saying I couldn’t make it to call me back so I can reschedule for the following week and no one ever called. What they did do was send me a bill for $645 for a drug test they never informed me they were doing. As a Medicaid patient I’m not supposed to be receiving bills like that so I called my Insurance company, they called them and they told my insurance company they refuse to stop billing me. Over all it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a doctors office and worst of it is I’m in worse pain then when I started with them. I highly recommend you stay far far away from this dr’s office. They wastes 3 months of my time and the right thing would have been to inform me they were doing a $850 drug test that most likely wouldn’t be covered by insurance instead of telling me it was routine. Also a sidebar, after going to a orthopedic surgeon, he determined he didn’t even do the injection in the right disc. He looked at the same mri’s so it’s quite concerning to me that he blindly injected me and never bothered to review my scans prior. I first went back in December with severe neck and shoulder pain. I do t understand how people could leave a bad review for this doctor. I just had a cervical epidural injection. Dr Johnson was super nice, friendly, warm, patiently answered all my questions and did a good job with the injection. What more can you ask for?

By far the best doctor that I’ve ever had! He listens to his patients and is empathetic and kind. He’ll work tirelessly to help you, if you are willing to help yourself. He is straight forward and honest. I highly recommend him!

Showed no empathy or compassion whatsoever. Rude, condescending, arrogant and intimidating. 1st visit gave me Rx that didn't help at all. 2nd visit he didn't believe me when I said it didn't help. If a Dr doesn't think he can help you he/she should just politely say so, without insulting the patient. I went to a different Dr and he took care of my issue appropriately and with care. Suggest you not see Dr Johnson. Without a doubt he has the worst bedside manner of any Dr I've ever seen.

Dr. Johnson has been my doc for >7 years and I'm not leaving anytime soon. - Pros - Technical expertise. I trust him to shove needles in my throat &thread wires in spinal canal. Once you're a "legit" pain person ... you've done all conservative treatment and don't abuse meds, he does approp. med mgmt. Front desk help is awesome. Appts relatively easy to get in St. Joe. - Cons - Don't expect warm & fuzzy. If you need that, get a dog or a shrink. Some nurses good, some abrasive. Hosp. = 2 bills

Dr. Johnson indicated from the MRI results that I had arthritis around the disk in my back, he also indicated that there was some tears around the spongy part between the bones, and nerve damage. Then he told me that he don't believe that I have back pain, that it was just muscles and that I needed to run, exercise, be active, get physical therapy. I have had back pain for seven years, I have gone to two different physical therapy offices for my back, and had injections. Nothing seems to help.

He really listens to what you have to say. Is great at explaining the situation and treatments. Extremely kind and courteous. His nurses are awesome!
