I was referred to Dr. Vanny with highest recommendation from my local urologist. Dr. Vanni performed a urethroplasty on me for a urethral stricture and from the start to the finish, the procedure went perfectly. Pre-planning was thorough and accurate to precision. No issues or complications, the procedure was as painless and as smooth as possible, and the result has been a tremendous improvement! Recovery time was exactly as expected -- maybe even a bit faster. Dr. Vanni and his staff are caring, compassionate, friendly, accommodating and exceptionally skilled. The Lahey Urology staff are all top-notch and I wouldn't go anywhere else for my care. HIGHLY recommend Dr. Vanni!

Without hesitation. After several failed procedures culminating with a terrible stricture my urologist referred me to Dr. Vanni. After my initial workup he came up with a plan for a permanent solution. He and the staff at Lahey were terrific. The results exceeded my expectations both with performance and appearance.

53 years ago, I suffered a urethra fusion requiring immediate surgery. Over the years, this injury left me requiring 8 separate surgical dilations. My Urologist referred me to Dr. Vanni explaining that he has the program and staff to perform the type of reconstructive surgery that would repair my problem area perinatally. After many hours of research regarding Dr. Vanni and his signature surgery I scheduled an appointment, his staff and interns were super nice, the techs made me feel comfortable, I joked with the radiologist, and soon I met with Dr. Vanni and I immediately felt comfortable with his approach and friendly feel. He meticulously explained the procedure and the recovery along with answering all of my questions to ensure that I was totally comfortable. The hole first experience was wonderful. We then scheduled the day for surgery and before long the process was over and I could not be happier. I just left my 6-month follow-up appointment and the results were terrific.

Dr Vanni has changed my life so much for the better. Dealing with a bad urethral stricture and a catheter tube in my stomach was a nightmare for sure but with my first visit to Dr Vanni I was treated with care concern and filled with confidence as to a good outcome with his surgical expertise.Now after having the stricture that caused a life threatening complete blockage repaired I am back to normal thanks to the skill and knowledge of this super nice gentleman. Dr Vanni has certainly changed my life for the better. The surgical procedure he performed has allowed me to return to normal everyday routine without pain and worry. I have been a patient of Dr Alex Vanni for over one year and have consulted with him as well as having him as my surgeon for two procedures done since November of 2019. I had a serious stricture issue and three prior procedures, surgeries, had left me with a suprapubic catheter and a diminished quality of life. My experience with Dr. Vanni so far has been life changing. I’m a 49 years old male who was diagnosed with BPH three years earlier. I underwent Green Laser Prostate Surgery to improve my quality of life and to eliminate the BPH symptoms. I suffered a severe urethral stricture due to the improper use of the laser scope that damaged my anterior urethra. I was advised to conduct balloon catheter dilations and went for the first session which failed miserably due to the severity of the stricture. I decided to a surgeon at South Shore Hospital to obtain a second opinion. South Shore Hospital Urology Surgeon opinion was to have a urethrotomy and then be trained on self-catheterization until further notice. I did not think that was a practical solution. I was connected through a friend to an experienced Urological surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. I spoke to the surgeon on the phone and he stated that I need reconstructive emergency surgery and took it upon himself to connect me with DR Alex Vanni at Lahey Hospital, Burlington, Massachusetts. DR Vanni is a specialist in reconstructive Urological Surgery and has superior talent and skill in performing corrective surgery. I was at the lowest point in my life psychologically and was very desperate at that point. The staff at Lahey Urology Department was unbelievable and very professional. Dr Vanni conducted a urine flow gram, an ultrasound, and a Retrograde Urethrogram and was able to diagnose the location and the length of the stricture. I cannot even describe the pleasant personality and the professionalism that I experienced with DR Vanni. Immediately, the patient can notice how experienced and how knowledgeable Dr. Vanni is. Dr. Vanni then performed a urethroscope and was not able to go past the stricture also. Dr Vanni and his staff spent approximately one hour and forty five minutes with me conducting diagnostic testing to study my case. After finishing all the tests DR Vanni suggested that I undergo Anterior Anastomotic Urethroplasty to remove the stricture section in my urethra and reattach it together. I was very nervous at the time but Dr Vanni explained all the other options for me and explained the risks associated with the procedure. I went for the procedure knowing that Im risking either becoming incontinent at a very young age or have erectile dysfunction at 50. Unlike all the other Surgeons that I have seen, I felt that I’m definitely in good hands with Dr. Vanni. I left the hospital with stitched between my legs expecting a lot of bleeding and pain. I stayed home for two weeks with a catheter inserted but did not feel any pain, and to my surprise without a single drop of blood on my wound dressing. I inspected the incision a week later and was barely able to notice a scar there. At the two weeks period, I went to Lahey Hospital and had the catheter removed and was able to urinate with a normal flow rate immediately. I left the hospital and drove all the way to Plymouth and it was eight hours before I felt the need to urinate. It has been seven months since I had the surgery with Dr Vanni, Im happy to say that my flow is normal and my urges completely disappeared. I don’t wake up to urinate at night and I have no leakage or sexual dysfunction issues at all. Dr. Vanni was really there for me at the lowest points in my life and he literally gave me a new fresh chance at living a good quality life at the age of 50. Don’t bother seeing anyone else if you have similar issues, go straight to Dr. Alex Vanni at Lahey Hospital in Burlington Massachusetts. Dr. Vanni is an artist and a master at performing reconstructive surgery but he is even better at performing the initial surgeries himself instead of fixing mistakes committed by other surgeons.

Dr. Vanni is a consummate professional in dealing with problems that few wish to talk about. I was referred to him by a urologist who could not handle the stricture which I was dealing with. He, along with ALL of his associates could not have been more understanding and professional in their meetings with me to explain all alternatives. Th surgery was done eight months ago, the follow up was excellent and I could not be happier with the outcome. Should there be a problem in the future there is no one else I would see.

I was referred to Dr. Vanni from another Urologist who lacked the expertise in correcting my particular urolgical problem. I found Dr, Vanni to be the consummate professional and down-to-earth. He explained the surgery thoroughly and answered every question I had. I found him to be highly skilled, knowledgeable, respected and one hell of a nice guy. I put my complete trust and faith in him and his surgical expertise and he didn't let me down. His support staff of nurses, technologists and administrative people were professional and very easy to work with. In short, I recommend Dr. Vanni without any reservation whatsoever. I had suffered with a urethral stricture since the age of 17. I am 49 now. I had gone through several minor operations in order for them to widen the structure and usually it would last only a few months before the scar tissue would re-attach and the stream will be cut down considerably. I was referred to him from my local urologist in Dover New Hampshire and he said that Dr. Vanni was the best in the East Coast if not the country. He explained that there was a new procedure using a skin graft where they would take skin from the inside of my mouth and reconstruct my urethra. I had a urethral stricture repaired by Dr. Vanni, to whom I was referred by my urologist in Springfield, MA. The initial consult was prompt and thorough, with a clearly-explained diagnosis, treatment plan and prognosis. I had the surgery in early July of this year and recently had my follow-up visit. The surgery was a complete success, and I went home the same day, as expected. (Now it takes me 8-15 seconds to empty my bladder rather than as long as 3.25 minutes.) The process of surgery went exactly as it had been described. The directions for immediate and longer-term recovery were accurate and very helpful. I found Dr. Vanni quite approachable and that he gave clear and understandable responses to all of my questions. On all three visits he made sure that I had a chance to express my concerns and ask questions. There were no surprises. I come from a family of physicians, and Dr. Vanni has the demeanor and clinical skill they seek out themselves and recommend for others.

Doctor Vanni in my opinion saved my life, my complex probably was diagnosed in one day compared to other doctors I want mention. I was put at ease immediately, he showed real concern and told me in a way I could understand on what had to be done, I would and have recommended him to friends. I spent approximately 30 years of my life dealing with Urethral Stricture. I had a couple of good local Urologist who tried multiple surgeries and diferent attempts to resolve my issue. I ran out of options and was referred to Dr Alex Vanni who changed my life! Now in my 50's I'm living a normal life with no Urethral issues. I was very nervous because no surgery worked in the past but Dr Vanni surgery was smooth and recovery was the same if not better than past surgeries. i struggled for my whole life with a Urethreal Stricture i.e. it hurt when i urinated, and left a trace of blood at the end of my urination. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Vanni! I have been dealing with urethral strictures for over 30 years with many surgeries from multiple doctors that were just temporary fixes that lasted a couple years. Most urologists admittedly don't perform urethral reconstruction on a frequent enough basis to attempt it. Dr. Vanni does these procedures every day and is an absolute magician! When I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer I was 67. My prostrate was successfully removed robotically. However, complications developed due to scar tissue on my bladder neck and after two unsuccessful resection transurethral surgeries I was referred to Dr. Alex Vanni at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA. He performed a successful bladder neck surgery. I am very pleased with the results and would highly recommend Dr. Vanni.

I had prostate removal due to cancer 17 years ago. I developed incontinence and other side effects . The incontinence was progressively getting worse after trying many different things. My Uroligist recommended the Artificial Uninary Sphincter AMS 800.I studied the process and procrastinated for over a year and I finally decided to go for it. I cannot recommend Alex Vanni too highly for a urethral stricture opreation such as I had. A straightforward, very focused chap, he clearly knows his stuff and practices it. He is very popular, rightly so, but this means multi-month leadtimes. Painkillers for this "rob Peter to pay Paul" dual-location operation: maybe one day. His stitching job turned out very pretty and my overall urine flow increased by a stunning factor or 25 (a 2 ml/s trickle turned into a 50 ml/s Niagra Falls).

Dr. Vanni did my urethroplasty 2 years ago and I could not be happier! I still crack a smile every time I pee. I had been living with a stricture for 20 years. I had 2 previous urologists attempt 3 surgeries and I thought it was something I just had to live with. My 3rd urologist referred me to Dr. Vanni and I've been peeing like a firetruck ever since. I cannot overstate how much better I feel now.

Dr, Vanni is an Excellent Specialist...I have Never encountered a more knowledgeable specialist in his field than Dr. Vanni...His explanation of the Reconstructive surgical procedure was so accurate that it seemed unbelievable. The procedure took care of a Urological problem that I had for a number of years...I went back last week for a yearly checkup and everything is fine. To me this has been like a Miracle. Thank you.

I had developed complications following a routine urology procedure, and was referred to Dr. Vanni. He clearly explained my options, and together we developed a treatment, plan, which included additional surgery. He is a skilled surgeon who takes great pride in his work and in achieving the best outcomes for his patients. I have made a full recovery, thanks to the fine work of Dr. Vanni.

I had a lengthy (5 cm) urethral stricture, causing pain, blood, and bladder stones due to inability to empty my bladder, and becoming more dangerous with time. Two urologists told me they couldn't fix it. I was very scared. A doctor I trusted referred me to Dr. Vanni saying "I'd want him if it was me". Dr. Vanni told me "It's fixable, and I can fix it." He did, an a year later it remains fixed. The more serious your problem, the more you need a urologist as incredibly skilled as Dr. Vanni.

I had artificial urinary sphincter surgery done by another surgeon and it failed to work properly. Dr. Vanni scheduled emergency surgery after hours to remove it, then, after healing, he did the operation himself and it has worked flawlessly for the past 18 months. He is direct and no-nonsense with his information and very supportive. I continue to be very happy with his care.

I selected Dr Vanni from a list of several surgeons who were recommended, largely due to his technique of using myomesin in conjunction with reconstructive urethral surgery, Dr Vanni was very attentive to my questions & concerns & very thorough in explaining the procedure & what I could expect relative to potential up & down sides post surgically, The surgery was performed 8 wks ago & I'm doing great! I would ENTHUSIASTICALLY recommend Dr Vanni to anyone requiring reconstructive urethral surgery

Dr. Vanni performed my urethroplasty and I could not be more satisfied. The surgery was much quicker than I expected (3 hours, when the literature said 6 to 8). It's 3 weeks post-surgery and I feel almost completely normal again. I'm also peeing normally again for the first time in 18 years which feels absolutely amazing! He has an excellent bedside manner and comes off as intelligent, confident and affable.
