Alexander Marmureanu

I hired Dr. Marmureanu as a medical expert to review some records and prepare a declaration for a pending lawsuit. The records were barely 100 pages in length. He was hired because he underquoted the other experts and told us that with a retainer of 5000, he could complete the job and we might even have some money coming back. There was a hard deadline coming up and I failed to look further into his reputation and boy did I mess up. After we hired him, he did the work, sort of. He read the records, sent us pictures showing his highlights to prove he read them, and worked out the specifics of the declaration with us. When it came time for him to sign, one business day before the deadline, he refused to sign and told us the charges had gone up to 12,500 and that he would not sign until we paid the additional 7500. I felt completely extorted and Dr. Marmureanu knew that it would cause great harm to us, our client, the court proceedings, etc., if we did not pay him and was relentless in demanding 250% of the price originally quoted and in not signing the declaration due the following court day. He might as well have asked for a million dollars because his charges were rather transparently mostly all fabricated. Rather than submit to his extortion tactics, we told the Court about how we had been victimized by Dr. Marmureanu, filed a lawsuit for fraud and other illegal practices against him, and hired a better expert. Though the new expert had to charge us extra for expediting the work, the other more qualified experts charges came to only 2000 really underscoring what a crook Marmureanu is for jacking the price up to 12500 at threat of not signing and then not signing. He now has our money, has provided nothing of any value, has caused tremendous disruption to our matter which affects multiple parties, the court, us and my client, and I am sure he must usually get away with this or he wouldn't have done it. I have now learned of his reputation and hope through our lawsuit we can put an end to his scam. I have been doing this type of case and working with this type of expert for well over 20 years. I have never had a problem with anyone else. The experts make a lot of money. The rate we agreed to with Dr. Marmureanu was $750 an hour. Because they make such good money, it is just astounding to see someone engage in this type of fraud out of greed. In this case, it wasn't just greed. He knew what a horrible problem he would cause if he refused to sign and just unethically exploited it as much as he thought he could get away with. Hopefully his days of scamming people will soon be over. The lawsuit is filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and is a matter of public record.
