Dr. Alvin Thomas Perkins

I just had an appointment with Dr. Perkins and it was the worse experience with a health care provider that I've ever had. He was condescending and didn't listen to anything I was saying. He even said, "I'm not calling you a liar, but I don't believe you". Who says that to a patient that is desperate for help?

There are many incompetent doctors at Raleigh Neurology, but I would say that Dr. Perkins is the worst. He is uncompassionate, rude, and arrogant to his patients. I had called to ask his nurse PA a question about the settings on my Cpap, and his PA changed it and it was too low I could barely breathe. Then Dr. Perkins MADE me make an appt. with him "just to change it back to the way it had been for years, prior to this nurse PA changing the setting over the phone"! And then he changed it back to another patient with the same name as mine! He did Telehealth and after I said Hi, he said, "SO WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOUR SCHIZOPHRENIC DEMANDS?!" Schizophrenic Demands?!". First of all, I had not contacted him for almost 2 years! Second, if you cannot breathe on the machine, you are supposed to let him know you can't breathe and he is to figure out what is wrong as he is the doctor; but he is not a thinker/therefore NOT much of a doctor. Beware of him!! He is not much of a doctor and looks down on people especially the ones with disabilities!! By the way, his PA turnover is phenomenal; he chews threw them like potato chips!!

My parents have both been patients at RNA seeing multiple providers for many years. They have benefited from high quality care and been highly satisfied. Their recent visit with Dr. Perkins did not prove to be helpful in any way. He was condescending and dismissive while communicating with them. He disregarded important clinical information regarding my mother’s health history and made recommendations that were potentially harmful to her. We give him a thumbs down. ????

Dr Perkins was unprofessional and disrespectful during our visit today. The first thing he said to my partner: “we already feel like we’ve seen you too much and we’re overmedicating you.” My partner has had severe sleep disruption every night for 5+ years. On his last visit he was prescribed a sleep aid that does not work for him. Dr Perkins did not even ask about the medication before accusing us of not needing a sleep specialist. My partner wants a sleep study done and Dr Perkins refused. We’re seeking a second opinion. I don’t recommend Dr Perkins

Dr Perkins was unprofessional and disrespectful during our visit today. He was dismissive of symptoms and mocked his patient instead of listening to him. I do not recommend him for sleep issues.

OMG what a fantastic doctor, he is smart, experienced, and listens to his patients... I had a horrible experience with another Sleep doctor and saw dr Perkins as a consult ... he actually sat w me reviewed all the data and built a game plan to correct my condition .

After suffering countless sleepless nights and visiting 5 doctors (in 9 weeks) who could not offer a diagnosis, I was fortunately able to quickly schedule an appointment with Dr. Perkins. He took the time to listen to my symptoms and concerns. His response, however, was unexpectedly unkind, belittling, and unprofessional. He said, "It sounds like something from a science fiction movie. How many other doctors have you seen rolling their eyes at you?" (Wow. Who expects to hear that from a top neurologist/healthcare professional?) To his credit, he ordered a head MRI which I was able to schedule that evening and received written test results within 48 hours. His office did not call to schedule a follow-up appointment with me. I called and the soonest appointment time with Dr. Perkins is 3 weeks post MRI for a nasal bone spur and brain lesions.
