Dr. Anahat Kaur Sandhu

Dr. Sandhu is amazing, could not have asked for a better doc to deliver my first baby! She is direct & to the point during the prenatal appointments but believe me, she is a rockstar when it comes to the delivery.

While Dr. Sandhu delivered two of my three pregnancies, I opted to transfer care to a different OBGYN at 36 weeks pregnant with my third. Over the years I have known and met with Dr. Sandhu I found her to be impatient (when it suited her), condescending, and patronizing. When I tried to advocate for myself, I felt completely dismissed. I struggled with extreme sickness with all three pregnancies and I believe her egocentricity hindered her ability to acknowledge the issues and provide adequate guidance and care that could have resulted in better and healthier pregnancies. If it’s important that you feel listened to and understood, seek care elsewhere.

My experience with Dr Sandhu has been stellar. I found that she doesn't excellent job of listening, she's responsive and does really amazing woman-led health care. I feel very confident referring my lactation patients into her care because she does a phenomenal job of addressing breast pain, mastitis, abscesses, she also has really been helpful for people experiencing pelvic floor pain. Dr. Sandhu offers compassionate, empathetic and careful care for all women's health issues. She accepts insurance but it's like you're getting concierge care! She does not believe in using the Internet for medical care. No virtual appointments or phone appointments (even during covid). No email. No electronic records. No transfer of electronic records. FYI if you choose to use midwives/a birth center for your birth, Dr. Sandhu will not coordinate care with them and also won't let you come back to see her a patient anytime in the future (even for pap tests or other routine things). Really surprising and disappointing. She also talks a lot about herself and her experiences in med school in appointments and will give very direct advice. For example she told me and my husband not to tell anyone the sex of our baby until after the baby was born so we would get better baby shower gifts. She didn't ask any questions about what we would prefer to do, just told us what she thought. She seems incredibly anxious during appointments. Some patients may like this style, but it's not for me. Office staff are rude and impatient. Overall a pretty bad experience.

I don’t understand anything less than 5 stars. Dr Sandhu is direct but kind and compassionate and doesn’t waffle about the facts. We’ve been with her for two pregnancies now - one that didn’t carry to term and one that will (hopefully!) deliver in two weeks. Both experiences, Dr Sandhu gave us the facts to make our own decisions. She is extremely well trained, knowledgeable, and current with latest procedures. We moved mid pregnancy and I still drove 3 hours each way for every appointment. Strongly recommend. Oh and as a bonus - she actually runs her practice on time! I went to her office for pelvic pain and the she and her staff were extremely rude. She asked me a bunch of questions and never even did an exam. I left feeling confused.

My daughter relayed the following to me: Dr. Sandhu accused me of giving her incorrect information about my women's health history. I know I did not make a mistake with this information so she must have written it down wrong. She was visibly annoyed by this error (which was hers) and acted impatient for the rest of the appointment. She told me that she had to see another patient and that I couldn't wait to ask questions only when I felt comfortable to ask them. I politely waited for her to finish speaking before asking a question, so I'm not sure what she wanted me to do. Dr. Sandhu apparently has no patience for people who haven't anticipated every question that could arise during an appointment.

Dr. Sandhu is kind and thorough. She listens. And she's an innovator; she brought computerized microsurgery to women's health in our area. I could not refer her more.

A friend referred me to Dr. Sandhu when I was 12 or 13 weeks pregnant after I decided not to move forward with a local birthing center. Of course, I read online reviews before scheduling an appointment, and wasn't sure that I should take the referral. Given my friend's high praises, though, I decided to go ahead. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Dr. Sandhu's office. She was always on-time, provided useful information, listened to what I had to say, answered my questions, and seems to be very comfortable and competent in her practice. I was very happy to have her as my OB throughout pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum care. Dr. Sandhu tends to approach things in a simple, factual manner while trying to connect on a personal level. She is approachable and open-minded. I never felt silly for asking a question and Dr. Sandhu was always very thoughtful and thorough in her responses. I really appreciated that - previous OB's had been more stand-offish and condescending when I asked questions that apparently didn't fit within their range of comfort. I had Dr.Sandhu delivered my baby in John Muir Hospital of Walnut Creek in Jan/2018. She was so knowledgeable and gentle to me and my baby. She made my whole labor and delivery experienced feel so smooth and comfortable. She is not my Obsteriction Dr but I would highly recommend this Dr to everyone. Dr. Sandu came highly recommended, so I went into our appointment trusting her knowledge. I came in for an ultrasound. She caused my husband and I an expensive nightmare. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR. -She did a pap smear without asking, making comments about my previous doctor not having the right pap smear sizes. I love my previous doctor. -She asked if my periods were painful. She told me women only ovulate when their period is painful and that it was a miracle I was pregnant since I don't have painful periods. That is simply not true. -When doing the ultrasound confused both my husband and I, talking constantly about all sorts of unrelated things. Eventually, what she said made so little sense. Basically she said I either had a psychological pregnancy (meaning I wanted to have a baby so badly that my body was pretending to be pregnant) or I was pregnant and it was too early for her to see. -She told me she would give my husband and I a minute after talking forever. I didn't know if I could dress or not, so I sat naked for 35 minutes waiting for her to come back and let us know the next steps. Five minutes alone would have been nice. Not 35 minutes without any follow up. -My husband finally went searching for her. She dismissed him and said the receptionist would give us the paperwork for what to do next. She didn't check in on me. -The receptionist told us we should go the same day to get blood work done and return at the same place (she said to be sure it was the same lab location) on Saturday to get more blood work done. There weren't any options - that was just the next step. -We went for blood work - the place was strange and seemed dirty. Went back on Saturday as instructed and they were closed. Called all over trying to find a location that was open and had to drive far to get the blood work. -The doctor took awhile to call so I asking them to release the form to my midwife. They said it would take a few days. -The doctor called a week later, told me that the blood work didn't answer questions, and told me she wouldn't see me again unless I left my midwife. -Went to another doctor. He said the ultrasound was very clear and normal. He knew right away that I was going to miscarry, was incredibly knowledgeable, and helpful. -We received a $600 bill from Dr. Sandu after the receptionist said there wouldn't be a charge, $40 additional for the pap smear I didn't want, and $80 for the blood work that wasn't helpful. It took us WEEKS to find out if I was indeed pregnant and went through so much emotional push and pull because of her lack of helpfulness. I have been with Dr Sandhu for five years, including a pregnancy and a delivery. I had my two previous pregnancies with other doctors and Dr Sandhu was hands down the best! She is always so friendly and helpful and never rushes appointments, taking time to let you know better. I would highly recommend her!

I had a complicated pregnancy and I truly believe my twins were successfully delivered because of Dr Sandhu. She treated me as if I was her most important patient (which clearly I was one of many.) dr Sandhu was extremely knowledgable and was invested in my pregnancy.

Excellent Doctor. Dr. Sandhu is professional, thorough, and thoughtful. I never feel rushed, and all of my options are explained. Her staff is very organized and professional as well.
