Arthur M Sharkey

I have been a patient at the Orthopaedic Institute off and on for quite a few years. Dr. Sharkey recently performed surgery on my right hand and arm. He was very courteous and thorough during my pre and post surgery appointments. He did an outstanding job and I would recommend him to anyone.

Everyone is always knowledgeable and helpful!

Excellent experience. Dr. Sharkey and his PA explained my condition in detail and relived my hand pain with an injection so that I could enjoy my upcoming travels.

The staff was great and Doctor was very caring and had a great sense of humor

Dr Sharkey has always made me feel heard and answered all my questions. I've had carpal tunnel on both hands, and a recent trigger finger release. He is caring and knowledgeable and is always pleasant.

My first visit was very satisfying. The appointment went very quickly and the staff was very friendly. Dr Sharky was very friendly and informative as well as his nurse. I would highly recommend the orthopedic institute to anyone looking for a quick resolution with answers you can trust and understand.

Dr. Sharkey and his staff are very professional, courteous, and all-around great people. I highly recommend any procedure done by Dr. Sharkey. I waited a long time to get my carpel tunnel fixed because I heard horror stories from others, who didn't go to Dr. Sharkey. My symptoms got so bad, I just couldn't take it anymore, so I bit the bullet and went for it. I am so happy I did. Now I have full use of my hands again and the scars are almost invisible. It's the best decision I've made. If you are suffering with carpel tunnel symptoms, don't put it off, and for sure, use Dr. Sharkey. Dr. Sharkey was very sweet, very caring. I felt relaxed which made me comfortable enough to ask questions.

Dr. Sharkey fixed my tendon and carpal tunnel. The surgery was a complete success. I can use my rt. hand again. I would reccommend him.

Dr. Sharkey is truly an excellent surgeon. He’s extremely meticulous in his work and has a lot of experience with plastic surgery as well, so he minimizes scarring as much as possible. I just had my fourth surgery with him and it was the most invasive of all, but he did a fantastic job. Been seeing him since 2012 because I have a lot of issues with various parts of both my wrists. 1. After an MRI, a CAT scan, and an EMG, he still didn't know what was wrong yet suggested surgery for a potential "30% increase" in my condition. 2. They suddenly changed the procedure from paying after the appointment to paying before the appointment. When asked "Why?" I was told "this is just the code they gave me" By this new person I'd never met, in an office I never had to go in before. My bill was always paid in full after each appointment, so it was offensive to be told that I need to pay upfront "because more people are canceling their health insurance." By the nurse. That implied that they wanted to make sure they got paid first. And also implied that health services might not be rendered to those who could not pay. 3. Upon checkout, when asked "why is the price so much more than it was the last time, since the last time I was given a steriod shot and this time he spent a little less than 5 minutes telling me he still didn't know what was wrong." The excuse, again, was "the code you were billed under is different." They seem to think that the word "code" is all you need to shut you up. 4. I spent less than 5 minutes with the doctor every time I came. It seems, the aim is to see as many patients as possible to make as much money as possible. After spending over $1,100 in doctor's visits and tests I still have no definitive answers and a skeptical solution for surgery that may or may not help. Conclusion: Pretty office. Friendly staff. Overpriced service. Rushed, low quality service. Won't be back 1. Dr. Arthur Sharkey is an outstanding surgeon. I highly recommend him. My daughter had a tumor on her thumb and took care of it right away. He treated my daughter kindly and he was very caring. He is a good doctor.

He is very rushed. I know nothing of his surgical abilities, but when assessing an arm injury he was not helpful and provided no successful remedy despite multiple MRIs.

I have dealt with 4 doctors here since 2004 that I would HIGHLY recommend. The staff is friendly and courteous. I am so glad I came here all those years ago. After approximately 15 surgeries with my doctors here, I could NOT imagine going anywhere else for my orthopedic needs.

I severely broke my wrist in seven places. I was then referred to Dr.Sharkey. Though after reading the one terrible review , I was ready to go elsewhere. Thank goodness my daughter talked me into following through with my surgical appointment! What was supposed to be an hour procedure to surgically insert a plate and mend the severe damage to my wrist took Dr.Sharkey all of thirty minutes. I am now nine weeks out of surgery and with therapy starting to regain the use of my hand and wrist. Dr. Sharkey wasted no time getting me into surgery. I was in his office one day and he had me in surgery the next day and then straight into therapy soon after. He is an absolute phenomenal surgeon! I severely broke my wrist in seven places. Went in with a healthy right index finger that had a boutonniere deformity, caused by a recent laceration. 6 surgeries later, the finger was amputated and still infected. Dr. Sharkey & his "team" of attorneys deny any wrong doing to this day. I have had more invasive and technically challenging surgeries in the past and never a hint of an infection. Dr. Sharkey couldn't even do a basic repair on a finger without an infection. Several months of intensive antibiotic infusions, 40 hyperbaric chamber sessions and 2 hospitalizations were necessary to save my hand/life! I have heard similar stories from several of Dr. Sharkey's previous patients. Most of those I spoke with refused to return to him after their first office visit. Yet he is still in practice. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE NEEDING ANYTHING MEDICALLY RELATED! Exercise extreme caution, and ask for references from former patients before seeing this doctor. Ask about his rate of infection, amputations, and how frequent he is known by many to have actually become so infected that they had to have their appendages amputated.

Dr. Sharkey recently did a tendon transfer on my thumb to give me better ability to grip. After a pinched nerve in my neck over a year ago that reduced the use of my hand, I feel hopeful! There is another surgery that I'm considering having to improve my hand even more. Dr. Sharkey is very personable and will answer any questions that you have. I'm very happy to have found him.

Dr. Sharkey is treating me for an injury to my right leg, and his work is astonishing. My situation is complicated and his pathway to reconstruction is clear and proactive. I would say if you are needing work on a wound, with the possibility of skin grafting or other plastic surgery, you'd be insane to be under the care of any other MD in Gainesville.
