I came to the ER after a spider bite that left me with a fever, swollen arm, and abdominal pain. The nurse who saw me had terrible bed side manner. Every time I asked him a question about treatment or medication, I was left confused. After the doctor left out, I had more questions and when I asked about why my arm was so swollen or why my stomach was cramping so badly, I was told if I talked to the doctor then, ”that’s it.” All I wanted was to get a more detailed answer about treatment after I left. After the doctor left out the room, I had questions about how the spider bite would affect other medical issues I was currently having. His answers were very short and left me confused. I refused a pain medication because of a reaction I had once years ago and its like from that moment I was treated like a junkie who was their for drugs. I left in so much pain. I think it was only because I refused the first medication that they were thinking I wanted a stronger medication. I didn’t! I just did not want to leave itching from the one they offered. I've had my children here, and three surgeries. I love this hospital for many reasons but mostly it's dedication to patients and staff that truly care about human beings. They are one of the last hospitals that is Christ centered, with Crucifix displayed in each room and throughout the hospital. It is located near UAB and downtown near Lakeview District. There are plenty of places very close within walking distance to eat for visitors or family and love ones waiting on surgery. There's also a Starbucks located within the hospital. They have a cafeteria and a bistro with great food and selections for everyone and any diet. God bless St. Vincents Hospital the doctors, nurses, patient care assistants and event the transport staff that escort you to your car on discharge. Everyone is friendly and caring. My son broke his leg during football practice. I had excellent experiences with St Vincent's before; so I opted to take him to their ER. I found out quickly no one was in any interest to help. I got the wheelchair on my own, loaded him in the wheelchair and admitted him. I am strong enough to move my son but the addition of a broken leg (the tibia was split in two) brought on new challenges to transfer him from the car to the wheelchair. The security guard made sure to let me know after he was admitted that I needed to go park my car in the parking lot. What followed later were several hours of nominal care: x-rays, splints and waiting. Nothing appalled me. It was just doctors, nurses and other employees going through the motions. It's just a job. Who cares, right? After getting a splint and shot for the pain, we started to leave. Did I get help with my son back in the car? nah. On the way to billing, the nurse says "you got this, right? I got somewhere I got to be." I answered "yeah" because why make an effort now? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's nothing short of comical because I constantly read nurses bragging about themselves on social media. I checked out my son, rolled him to the doorway (mind you, he has been given a shot for pain so kind-of out of it), left him to get my car and put him in. After transferring him back to the car, the security guard walked out in what I thought was a halfhearted attempt to help. But no, he was just coming to get the wheelchair. So, have fun at this ER. Dr Mills and RN Savannah were attentive and helpful. It was obvious they cared about my well being. Hopefully my arm heals faster than expected!

Call any ER, and ask for wait times... any other hospital will have shorter wait times.

Terrible customer service. Hospital has gone downhill BIGLY. Nothing about St Vincent’s is worth a visit. Any other hospital would be a better bet.

Absolutely the worst ER!!! Staff was extremely rude and acted like they could care less what the patient was there for. Would not recommend this hospital to anyone I know.

Having chest pain... been sitting in ER for over two hours... worst place ever, if you have a real emergency - go somewhere else Staff here is on no hurry, showing no concern. At least 5 others that have come in after me have already gone back. Front desk staff often chatting it up with nurses/guards instead of working. Not sure what happened to St Vincent’s. This used to be a nice place. I regret coming here. I heard another person say they’ve been in the ER waiting room for 6 hours. Terrible. This place should be shut down. UPDATE... after several hours of sitting in the waiting room, I left... without being seen. Worst ER ever. I recently went to Grandview ER on 280 and it was 10x better. Took my boyfriend to St. Vincent’s because that’s where’s he wanted to go and it took us 30 minutes in a room before we even saw anyone, then was told they would get an IV started and sat for another hour... STILL no IV. Slowest staff ever. You’re way better off going somewhere else than to this ER. Worst ER ever. I recently went to Grandview ER on 280 and it was 10x better. St Vincent's patience care has fallen to the wayside. Not sure why. My husband was in the ER for close to 10 hours before being told he was going to be admitted with 24 hours?? The whole ordeal was exhausting and patient care was really bad. Never offered my husband a blanket, food, comfort, no remote for the tv, nurses got lost for over two hours at a time, and some female nurse had a Christmas bow in her hair that took all her credibility away, just unprofessional. You could not take her seriously. We signed a released and left and went to Grandview where the service was amazing, got a bed within four hours and the staff was great. Grandview will now be our hospital of choice. St Vincent's patience care has fallen to the wayside. Not sure why.
