You have to wait quite a bit to be seen vs your appointment time, but Dr Alva is great.

i love absolutely LOVE him he cured all my stomach problems i would be dead in the ground 6 feet below if it wasn’t for him he has saved me and my family his staff is so amazing and beautiful he is so patient and listens with eyes and ears he gave me the best advice and helped me with my tummy now i can eat again and i’m so happy that he is here to help me whenever i need him.

I first met Dr. Alva when he was assigned to me when I was hospitalized for several weeks, and he checked in on me frequently, running any necessary tests to figure out the issues. When I had a follow-up appointment a couple of months later, my mother-in-law had passed away that morning and I had to cancel my appointment; he didn't charge me for the last-minute cancellation, given the circumstances, or push for an immediate reschedule. Since then, when I've had issues, he has always been attentive, kind, understanding, and patient. (I think as long as you're open and respectful with him, he'll put your concerns and healthcare as a priority.) Those at the front desk have been nothing but good to me. Always returning my calls, and when I needed orders released for tests at hospitals (when I couldn't physically come pick them up myself), they accommodated and took care of everything for me. I could not have picked a better doctor if I went searching on my own, and feel lucky to have someone who is there to answer any questions I have, with such a pleasant bedside manner.

I can see why the man's name is Brick, since he treats his patients and their families with all the respect of a cinder block. My mother-in-law has severe dementia, but this doctor ignored all requests to give her diagnosis information to us, even with a power of attorney and letter from the VA. DO NOT GO TO HIM!!! I would rate this place 0 stars if I could. We went through the process of scheduling an appointment a month ago, and I showed up with all of the appointment papers they gave us, followed their procedures and everything, just to find out the doctor forgot to put him on the schedule. Their reasoning? He was busy with another patient at the time because WE WEREN'T EVEN ON THE SCHEDULE. Then they said we needed to call his office to reschedule. My poor son hasn't been able to eat properly and lost 20 pounds in the span of a month and had to starve himself for a procedure he didn't even get. An absolute waste of our time. I wouldn't trust these people with my family's lives and neither should you. Great doctor! Answered all of my mom’s questions and gave her plenty of info to make her feel comfortable with her procedure. Also spoke Spanish which was a major plus!

He is a great Doctor listens to you with patience, He explains in details! I really like him he treat me with respect!

Receptionist was rude, the doctor was condescending and made me feel like I was dumb when I showed him reports of my diagnosis. Will not be returning to this doctor ever again.

I will never go back to see Dr Alva again I took the time to contact my Health Insurance, United Health Care, and they Colonoscopy was going to be covered 100% under Preventive Care, the UHC Rep. Spoke with Dr Alva’s billing lady up front and went over the codes to charge, etc. This was in Feb. 2020. Today 6/22/20 I get a call from Dr Alva’s billing company Ascent, that I have a balance of $115. So I called UHC to look into it, come to find out, Dr Alva’s office charged the, after-screening office visit as, “diagnostics”. There was no diagnostic what so ever, Dr Alva gave me a bunch of general literature on diet, etc. he just spoke to me for maybe five minutes, and this was the, “followup” office visit after the colonoscopy. Come to find out, there is really no medical need or requirement for a,”followup visit” after the colonoscopy screening. So, the followup visit is purely a, “RIPOFF!” I sure won’t be going back to Dr Brick Alva, thats for sure, and won’t recommend him either!???????? My husband had very poor experience with Dr Alva, who presented very short and rude during the visit. He did not answer his questions, and rushed him through the appointment When my husband went to pick up his medicine (on the weekend) that he needed to take before his procedure on Monday, the medicine wasn’t at the pharmacy I called the office and talked to the answering services. They sent a message to the doctor, and later the doctor called me and scolded me, saying “how dare you to bother the doctor on the weekend”. I’ve been a nurse for over a decade, and never in my life I’ve heard a doctor speak to his patient in this manner.Needless to say, we cancelled all the follow up appointments with him, and found another gastroenterologist who is wonderful. We requested his record transferred, but they refused to give it to us without an appointment, even though I told them it’s our rights as patients to get a copy of the results. All we need to do is to come i. And sign a release form. His receptionist said she will need to ask permission from the doctor to release the record to us! I am so angry the front desk people have no clue what they are doing!!! for some reason our insurance company has their web billing wrong so we always have to call them to get the rice price. Well the lady working for Dr.Alva refused to call and said she had to go off the website she did not want to call the insurance company to verify the correct amount to charge us. I am so very upset I have nothing to say about the doctor because unfortunately we were unable to see him. I would love to speak to the office manager because this is unacceptable. Please get people who actually know what they are doing and have some costumer service. Brick Eduardo Alva should not be your go to. This guy does not seek to find correct diagnosis. He is only seeks a quick buck. 1. My first visit to him he was more interested in collecting a referral kick-back than he was learning of my condition. He tried to get me to go to the ER at memorial Hermann for a CT scan after simply pushing on my stomach... THE ER FOR A CT SCAN! 2. With symptoms like mine, he should have done some form scopic exam but never sought fit! 3.After getting a CT scan, he used the radiologists assumption of what I likely had (despite literally 0 of Mayo Clinics symptoms aligning to my own). That report is intended to be used as feedback only for which he conducting tests to confirm, none of which happened.. 4. Worst of all, he was knowledgeable of my discomfort and simply said let's wait 6 months to get another CT scan. I really like Dr. Alva as he takes the time to explain and answer question. The Billing Dept however is terrible. I am fighting to correct two EOBs relating to the screening. GRRR!

Really took the time to explain my problem and I am grateful for his knowledge and patience.

He takes time to know his patients and to explain the treatments or procedures in detail. Excellent doctor, I highly recommend him.

Prescribed a medication without checking if I had another very common GE problem which prohibits use of said medication. I read the pharmacy fact sheet and had to call him upon which he acknowledged that I could not take that medication! Also a poor listener, interrupts before I finished describing primary symptom and associated secondary symptoms. Finally had not reviewed blood tests, stool tests and CT Scan results before the consult. Waste of time/money. Looking for a better GE specialis

I was referred to Dr. Alva from my primary care as I had never had a colonoscopy. The Doctor himself was the only one for this entire procedure who was in network. Without advising me he used unapproved level of anesthesia, with an out of network provider, out of network labs and all of this without advising me. I have spent months fighting claims when I did the right thing and went to an in network provider.

I highly recommend Dr. Alva for Gastroenterology and all of his fields of expertise. I have been seeing him for 5 years and he has performed much more than upper GI's and colonoscopies on me. He has seen me through some serious liver issues and has provided professional guidance and in depth explanations with each procedure. He is calm yet very serious about client relationships and their well being. I have undergone procedures with other doctors, but his bedside manner is un-paralleled.

Had an apppintment at 4pm, after 5pm and still no dr I left. No respect for anyone’s time.

Doctor is okay but staff needs some work. I'm dealing with Incorrect billing from a procedure that I had done through this doctor. Went to this doctor because he is in network and recommended from my doctor. They sent my labs to an out of network lab!!!! Working with insurance to deal with the $3200.00 in total that I was billed instead of the 40.00 bill I would have received if they had of sent my lab to a in network lab. On top of that personal had an attitude when I called back. I don't write many reviews but felt compelled to let everyone know what happened so no one will go through the same thing. STAY AWAY!!!!! Saw Dr Alva who did a colonoscopy for me. Due to severe pain that I had been in, I was admitted to hospital the night before my procedure. He came to my room at midnight to inform me of the plans. Because the colonoscopy was fine, he immediately set me up with a surgeon for exploratory surgery. I will forever be grateful for his compassion and care.

Dr. Alva took as much time as he needed to explain every one of my test results, what, if anything, needed to be done, and provided me with a comprehensive written description of my visit. He's very thorough.
