My 81-year-old mother is a patient at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope. She fell and shattered her knee Friday and had a knee replacement surgery Sunday. Her nurse call button was not working Saturday night and they said it would be Monday before she they could fix it. Her night nurse said they would leave her door open as her room was just across from the nurses station. I emphasized she was in great pain and they needed to check on her. After I left, she had a pain shot at 10:30 p.m. Thereafter, Dr. Cassie Luke was on rounds that night and visited Momma. She asked my mother if she needed anything. My mother said she was in great pain and needed a shot. Luke was apparently offended, yelled at my mother that if she needed a shot she should call nurse, and stormed out, slamming the door behind her. With the door closed nobody could here her calls or her crying in pain. She saw nobody again until 4:30 a.m. and she was crying hysterically in pain. Dr. Luke is to blame for her suffering.
