Dr. Chalian had been recommended by the PT at Pomona Valley Hospital as a doctor who was great because he wouldn't do a procedure if it weren't needed. This was high praise for him, which at the time made no sense to me being naive that a doctor might actually care more about the money than doing right by the patient. PT didnt make the knee better (the PT in retrospect had no knowledge about what works and what doesn't in building up the VMO muscule in knee patients). Chalian recommended a lateral release for the left knee because PT hadn't worked and so it seemed like surgery was only option. BUT, as every PT I've spoken to since has told me, this would have been an unwise procedure. My parents spoke to a specialist they knew, and told them as much too, which I didn't believe at the time. In the end, Chalian did an artiscopic surgery on my knee, but then did nothing inside (didn't do the lateral release). But he got paid, and I had to rehab, and in retrospect (and as my parents knew) the lateral release is a bad procedure that would have made it worse, so there was no sense in opening up the knee in the first place.
