They have the cruelest most unprofessional nurses I've ever met. Not only are they mean and ruff with your children, but act like you're not entitled to know anything they are going to do to them. Don't go here.

We used to love Dr. Duarte. ???? He sent my son to occupational therapy, and they did an autism screening on him. They told us he wasn't "anywhere near the spectrum." His behavior kept getting worse. Dr. Duarte kind of seemed to throw his hands up and tell me he didn't know what to do with him. I asked him if he was sure my son wasn't autistic. He stuck to the "diagnosis" from the OT. Finally, he got an evaluation with Autism of America. Big surprise, he's autistic! We wasted over a year because Dr. Duarte didn't listen to me when I asked him to recheck things. By the way, an occupational therapist is by far not qualified to do an autism evaluation. We used to love Dr. Duarte. ???? He's the most amazing doctor I could have ever asked for as for as being my children's doctor.. Dr Duarte has diagnosed and saved my daughter when she was SUPER ILL with kawasaki which is kind of rare. He knew it and got it diagnosed well before that 10 day time frame before it caused permanent heart damage. I won't ever trust any other doctor like I trust this man right there. All the staff was so friendly. He's the most amazing doctor I could have ever asked for as for as being my children's doctor.. They did not have the specialists needed at their location to treat poison ivy and administer antibiotics to treat possible infection from the open blisters. (This was their explanation). They wanted to send us to Petoskey (McLaren) ER. After repeatedly requesting that they treat him in Cheboygan, since it is a hospital, they said he could go downstairs to the ER and needed an IV. After a total of 3 hours (for poison ivy treatment...) we went home and had our son soak in a cool oatmeal and tea tree oil bath. We took him to Petoskey 2 days later where they wrote a prescription for an oral antibiotic, even though he had no symptoms of an infection and the rash had dried up almost completely. We took him in because Dr. Duarte's nurse called 8 times/day saying that he might have MRSA, and we take that very seriously. She was extremely angry that we chose to go to Petoskey instead, and attacked my and my husband's parenting - and was relentless (a bit like a car salesman) about how Dr. Duarte "NEEDS to see our son immediately". She was really angry. The day after our trip to Petoskey, our son is completely healed from his oatmeal baths and keeping everything clean, (and staying out of his favorite fishing spots!) and CPS shows up to take pictures of our son's legs and try to interview our kids. We are well aware of our rights as parents so she left disappointed, however, the fact remains that we are now being investigated because we took our "business" elsewhere. Your children's health and well-being are not their concern. Money is. When our 4 yr old broke her arm, they put her through hell for 4 hours, then sent her to Petoskey, where she suffered another 3 hours with snapped bones, then sedated her with a ketamine and finally set her arm and castes it. (Which took 10 minutes). I have stories for days. We will never let them near our children again. Horrible. Karen is the worst!!

Dr. Duarte is a fantastic pediatrician. He is very analytical and observing doctor. We went in because my son had a virus that had pretty bad symptoms. Dr. Duarte was able to conclude he had an ear infection which was caused also by the same bacteria causing the pink eye and runny green mucus. He prescribed an antibiotic that would take care of all three issues too.

He seemed very nice, but not very thorough with his examination of my children. Had one of my children been molested or something sick like that, he wouldn't know. He asked ME about my daughter is everything ok down there? I was dumbfounded. And thought to myself any pervert could take their child to him and he would never know molestation was happening. As a doctor you should feel comfortable accessing my daughters genitals. I thought I'd give him a try, but I'm not impressed. New Dr for us.
