I have benefitted from Dr. Nam's professional skill, the pre op careful preparation and the post op drug and physical therapies and accompaniment. I achieved my goal: walking a distance w/o knee pain. I have a recommendation to Dr Nam and colleagues. Given the spectrum of knee replacement recipients we will interpret the professional advice differently. My cohort would be one of good physical health. So when we hear "do as much as you can with the knee replacement," some of us do not know limits and may do more that what the body can handle during the recuperation process. We erroneously pride ourselves in exceeding limits and then we pay the price. Therefore it may help others to hear, after a week from surgery it's ok to work on an exercise machine but to not exceed 5 mins. Walk but for "x" distance the first 3 weeks. Finally Dr. Nam's good work with a human touch has allowed me to continue doing my work with a human touch. Tom Florek sj

I highly recommend Dr. Denis Nam. He performed a relatively rare, complicated surgery on my knee -- not only the replacement of the joint, but also the reconstruction of the patellar extension tendon/mechanism that spans it. The result was stunning: my leg is now properly aligned (having previously been angled-in toward the other knee), the joint is effectively pain free, and I can now walk and climb stairs with greater stability and confidence than in many, many years. Dr. Nam's personality is extremely friendly, upbeat and supportive. He listens carefully and provides constant encouragement. His technique is obviously informed by the latest surgical and medical knowledge, no doubt a function of his active teaching and research. Dr. Nam and his entire team was outstanding from beginning to end.

I had my right knee replaced by Dr Nam recently. Dr Nam and his staff are the most professional and experienced staff that I ever had. From the PA’s to the office staff they are there for you 100%. I was given his senior PA’s cell phone number in case I had any problems, she answered the concerns I had each time. I would highly recommend Dr Nam and his team to anyone.

Dr Nam explained the X-rays and the options of surgery same-day locally or overnight at Rush in Chicago. I can’t say enough about his whole team, learning about the procedure, guidelines for successful surgery outcome and follow up. He has a very thorough pre-surgical process. Reaching out to his team for post surgical issues exceeded my expectations. I have not experienced that level of service from a surgeons office before. To say I am thrilled to have found Dr. Nam and his world class team is an understatement! From my first appointment to my post-op check in I have been treated with the utmost of care. As a “young” candidate for hip replacement at age 50, I had obvious reservations about the surgery. Dr. Nam himself played phone tag with me until he reached me and answered all of my questions and put me at such ease I grew excited to have the surgery and have a new lease on life. And a new lease I got! Call me fortunate, prepared and/or the recipient of Dr. Nam’s genius but I experienced 0 pain during recovery, was walking unassisted after 8 days and at only 3 weeks most wouldn’t be able to tell I had surgery at all! I’m so very thankful and happy to have waited to find the best! I’d be more than happy to speak to any prospective patient about my journey and experiences.

Excellence evidenced at each step of this process

Both of my knees are confirmed bone on bone, and this is the first of the two replacements, right knee. I chose Dr. Nam by reading his profile and also ratings. Now I can confirm that he is an excellent surgeon. The surgery was robotically assisted and he remarked that the operation went perfectly. My post operative pains were low and the recovery with the work of physical therapy went ahead of the curve. I achieved 0° on straightness and 120° on the bend by the 16th day after surgery, & at the 3 week visit had the mobility and strength to be released to drive. I still have 3 to 6 weeks work ahead of me, but can walk without any assisting devices. His appointments are on time, & any required x-rays or other functions move along on a timely basis also. The staff operates as a team & there is always someone to contact to answer questions. The daily text offers encouragement and tips for rehabilitating the leg. I highly recommend him, & will be returning in Jan to have my other knee done.

I had my knee replacement in 2016 and the experience was great. Dr. Nam was very knowledgeable of the operation he was to perform on me He answered all my questions and put me at ease about the operation and recovery process. He listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. Scheduling visits and the operation was simple and timely. His staff is outstanding and polite. I recommend him to my family and friends knowing he will do his best to bring back a life of pain free joints with stability returned.

I’m 67 and had a full knee replacement, and I was walking, surpassing PT goals, and doing stairs within a week of surgery, with no assistive device. His staff is also outstanding in every way. Dr. Nam and his team are highly skilled, personable and compassionate. I had total knee replacement. From pre-surgery to where I am today at 10 weeks post-surgical, Dr. Nam, Victoria and the rest of the team have been there with a level of caring that is difficult to find these days. I extensively researched Illinois surgeons when I realized my knees weren't going to last much longer. Dr. Nam's peer-reviewed research deals with prevention of post-surgical infection. His patient ratings far exceed other surgeons in the Chicago/NWI area and he uses state-of-the-art procedures and hardware. I will be having the other knee replaced soon. Without a doubt, Dr. Nam and his incredible team have the job.

Knee replacement surgery in 2017 and follow up care. Everything has gone perfectly. Up and walking within a couple of days (doctor would not recommend that schedule), back to completely normal activities, including athletics with no problems. Midwest Ortho and Rush Hospital are class operations and Dr. Nam did a great job

I chose Dr Nam after extensive search for a suitable physician for my problem. He has outstanding credentials and training at the top institution in hip and knee replacement/reconstruction. Dr.Nam did hip replacement for my Mom 4 yrs ago at age 89. No other doctor would do it but he did, got her out of her 3 year hip hurting misery because most doctors won’t do it unless you fall and break it. He used care, made sure her heart was good, did test then replaced it. She’s almost 94 now and he gave her 2nd chance at life and she was still flying around the county till covid hit. Very thankful he did not dismiss her. He did surgery at Barnes in St. Louis before he went to Chicago. I told mom if she needs other hip replaced, I’m driving her to Chicago. I'm 43 years old and have been dealing with chronic arthritis in my hip for 8 years. Most likely caused by a lifetime of being a left handed pitcher. 2 years ago I was getting a cortisone shot twice a year and was told the born spurs and bone on bone contact was never going to better. So my choice was to deal with or get a new hip. So on November 2nd of 2020 I had the surgery with Dr. Nam. Exactly 6 months later I can report back that on Sunday May 2nd, I pitched in our men's league baseball game with my power and flexibility then I've ever had! I had my left hip replaced a year ago and feel “cured”. I experience no pain in my hip, and I’m able to do all things in a normal life. The staff is very efficient at protecting everybody against covid. They were extremely efficient at getting me in and out of there. I got to meet Doctor Nam. Dr. Nam was very personable and compassionate. He took time to explain to me the X~Rays and MRI. He helped alleviate my fears regarding surgery. His assistant was very helpful. The entire Midwest orthopedic practice is very professional. The wait times were reasonable and I was quickly ushered through the x-ray process and into a room to see the doctor’s assistant and then the doctor. Our conversations were frank and the dr. explained the various medical scenarios to alleviate my problem with hip pain and knee pain. I will continue with non-surgical recommendations and revisit my decision at a future date.
