I've never had a root canal before today and I was somewhat anxious about the procedure. Dr. Starkey explained the process, answered my questions and put my mind at ease. Believe it or not, during the procedure itself, I felt no pain whatsoever! Hopefully, I will never have to get another root canal, but if I do (God forbid), I will definitely return to Dr. Starkey. Dr. Starkey performed my root canal about 4 years ago and ever since then, I’ve always had a sensitivity on that tooth. I went back to him twice within the four years and the first time he told me it will go away. It never did. I went back a second time last year and I told him the tooth was still sensitive and sensitive to the touch and his response was, “Well, don’t touch it.” I felt insulted and upset that he didn’t take my pain seriously because he couldn’t find any discrepancies in the X-ray. This past week I felt excruciating pain in the same tooth, so I went to my dentist who diagnosed me with an abscess tooth, the same tooth Dr. Starkey performed my root canal on. My dentist wrote a prescription for antibiotics and Motrin for the pain. I made an appointment with another endodonist who is open on Fridays and gave me a same day appointment to retreat and fix my aching tooth with another root canal. Research has proven that doctors do not take Black women’s pain seriously and are more likely to dismiss the severity of their pain. I’m hoping this was not the case, but I do wish Dr. Starkey had looked into the root of my pain and taken my complaints more seriously. Had a root canal. The only thing that hurt and it was just a tiny bit was the shot to numb me. Everything else was absolutely painless. It’s been about 11 1/2 hours since the procedure and I have still had no pain. Not even when I ate dinner. Everybody was super nice and Dr. Starkey let me know what he was doing at all times. The office staff, the dental assistant and Dr. Starkey himself were all so wonderful. They explained everything to me before it started, and took the time to check on me throughout the procedure. Dr. Starkey is thorough, personal, patient and friendly. I will definitely be seeing him again should I ever need his services, I won't go anywhere else!

i was absolutely petrified when i came for the root canal, but Tracy and Dr.Starkey put me at ease. once the procedure began i was numbed up so well i felt absolutely NOTHING!!!. I am very satisfied with my experience here. All the staff was very kind from the lady in the front office to the dentist himself. Thank you all so much.
