Brought my teen daughter with scoliosis in for a checkup as it's been getting more painful for her. Dr. Banks basically said "nothing we can do, sorry, bye" and walked out. No discussion, no consideration of any possible alternatives, not helpful at all.

I was disappointed with my visit to see Dr.Banks. I saw his PA in Aug 2021 & she sent me for a shot. It helped me thru the winter. She didn't take much time with me & didn't really explain my MRI & CT scan. So thought I would try Dr. Banks this time. He said the shot would not help & also physical therapy would not help. But I felt like it would be worth a try to strengthen my muscles. He only wanted to send me to a pain Dr which I couldn't see for 2 mths. Twice he abruptly interrupted me while looking at his notes. I was trying to tell him about what happened to my back in the past as I thought he might need to know but he wouldn't let me. I was very disappointed with my visit. Got into see the dr right away and had a procedure done the same week.

I was treated like I was wasting his time. I felt like he didn't take my concerns seriously. He either needs to retire, or only likes working with people with advanced, chronic issues that need surgery. He looked at my x-ray and saw the curve in my spine, and dismissed it as "that must just be the way you were standing". I'm sorry, but this "curve" has caused a lot of problems, hence why I came in for answers. I'm 35, what I have dealt with over the last 20 years, is NOT normal. And that's the way I stand.

I’ve seen Dr Banks for two different problems over this last year. Both are serious; a tumor on my spine and two compression fractures. As in previous reviews he had absolutely no concern for explaining even the X-ray results much less answer a question. When starting to ask a question he interrupted and got up to walk out. When asked about any medication for extreme pain that hoes with compression fractures he told my daughter as he’s already in the hall way that “she’ll just have to deal with it”! He has no regard for the patient as a human being much less feel any obligation to them. He is an arrogant person who forgets that you hired him and he work for you! My daughter is a nurse and was appalled by his unprofessional conduct!

Dr Banks is the worst doctor I have ever seen! I have had multiple fractures of my spine and had come to the TCO urgent care because my pain had gotten worse and it was in a new location. X-rays were ordered and he’s looking at the X-rays and didn’t even talk about what was a new fracture. I had seen him before and he doesn’t show or explain what is happening. I started to ask a question and he actually interrupted me! It was about the brace that TCO had prescribed and he never did let me talk. This was my sixth compression fracture and they are very painful. I had before tried to schedule an appointment with pain Dr at TCO and I would have to wait almost three months to see her. I asked Dr Banks for help with the pain and he actually said “you’ll just have to deal with it” and walked out of the room. Essentially doctors are hired help. He was being paid to help me when I really needed it and he did nothing but insult me. My daughter was with me and is a nurse and she was appalled at Dr Bank’s total lack of regard!! I got an appointment quickly. I signed in and was taken to a room to see Dr. Banks. We talked about the x-rays of my neck. Everything went well and I was out of the office promptly.

Dr Banks has never let me down. He has gone above and beyond what I expected to be done on my back issues. I recommended him 15 yrs ago and still do to anyone who is experiencing orthopedic problems. Thank you for the care and for having pride in your work...it shows!

After waiting 45 minutes past my appointment time, Dr. did a very cursory exam and then told me I should just “Google it,” rather than referring for physical therapy. Complete waste of time.

My experience has been great so far. Dr. Banks saw me in the hospital for herniated disc, and I had an additional hospitalization afterward, and then a 3rd so he recommended a spinal surgery which was complete the next day. Very good care in my opinion!

Not happy, was told that maybe I should consider a new career. Yeah right, what and where would I get a job at my age. I got nothing out of seeing this doctor.

Twin Cities Orthopedics has not been good to me in general. I went in for help having had the same issue for over 20 years and was forced to take lots of tests again and passed around to 4 different doctors when in the end, I was sent to the pain clinic where I wanted to go in the first place. Do not to see a P.A. since they do not know how to help you and if they refer you for a surgery consult, they will no longer help you and the surgeon will pass you back around when there is nothing they can do to help you. I had a very good visit with Dr Garry Banks. He was very attentive, helpful and explained everything so i could understand my options. Highly recommend him for your care.

2005 cervical fusion-all great! 2015, observant Dr Banks and assistant saw edge of mass on X-ray, sent for ultrasound & was uterine cancer- would’ve missed for years- thank you!

I thought my care was excellent. I had my first visit with Dr. Gary Banks yesterday and saw him again this morning for a spinal injection. The next step is, I pray that it works. The staff and Dr. Banks were very cooperative and very attentive to my problem.

Very poor communication Very Arrogant and didn’t help

Dr. Banks performed spine surgery on my mom in April 2020. He went the extra mile to be able to get her surgery approved during Covid-19 lock downs and restricted medical procedures. He got on a conference call with my brothers in Winnipeg and Bemidji and explained exactly what the problem was and the surgery he planned. He ended up placing 12 screws in her spinal column to secure her fractured vertebrae. He also spoke with all of us after the surgery and had follow-up appointments with my mom. Ten months later my mom is fully recovered and doing very well for an 88 year old. Dr. Banks is not only an expert spine surgeon but one of the most approachable and compassionate doctors I've every interacted with. I thank God for Dr. Banks.

My visit was very efficient and Dr Banks was courteous

On behalf of my brother... he has had several surgeries done by Dr. Banks and none have provided any relief. He's looking at getting another surgery and I'm hoping he goes to someone else. And, as others have said, bedside manner is consistently awful. I waited for hours for him to come out and talk to me while I was in the waiting room and he never showed.

Dr Banks did my second back fusion in 2011. He does not have a bed side manner, very short visit no eye contact. Since my 3rd surgery almost 7 months ago I still have the same pain as I had before my surgery. I never had a balance problem, I do now. I have had PT, still using the cane for balance and still have the pain. I am so fed up with him, I will not go back. During my surgery my daughters were concerned that the 2 hour surgery was in the third hour. No one came out to talk to them. When Dr Banks came out to talk the them when the surgery was done my daughter asked why no one came out to talk to them during the surgery. His response was "that's not my problem" and walked away. No wonder he has 3 stars, I'll give him 1. Barb C

After a big round with my insurance company Dr.Banks got the MRI he needed.Just home from my surgery,pain free after months of suffering.Bed side is short and to the point,I am more concerned about a quality surgeon and he is great.

Had my lumbar fusion surgery Oct.31st, so still recovering, have no problems with Dr Banks as a surgeon, but as far as communication, he seems to not be comfortable talking or even smiling. You want a Dr that’s at least you can talk to, look at you, ask you more questions. I tried to tell him about the horrible experience I had at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, he showed no interest in what I went through. Yet he sends his patients there. I do not feel comfortable with Dr Banks , I think he needs someone to tell him how to try to relate to his patients. You want to feel at ease with your DR. But I do not feel that way at all, so the re-checks are more nerve wracking then a positive experience.

Went to see Dr. Banks recently for recurring Back Pain. dr. Banks did back surgery on me little over a year ago . Did not help me at all. Went to see him about 2 months ago. Took xrays . He looked at them and said "everything looks good, and out the door he went. My wife said" is that it" And Dr, Banks said from the hall way "Thats It" And away he went. And I am left with the same back pain I came to see him about. I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

Dr. Banks has done 2 back surgeries on me. Prior to surgery he is responsive to my needs. He fully explains what I can expect and is available for my questions and concerns after after.

Dr. Banks has done 3 spine surgeries on me. Each one of them was a great success. He is very knowledgeable surgeon takes the time to answer all questions so the average person can understand. I would trust him with my family and friends.

I have been using Dr Banks for the last ten years for spine issues. Back in 2011 he fused my L4 L5 S1. This year he fused my L3 and did a lamy on L2. He is a man of few words but is great with your spine. I highly recommend him for your spinal needs.

He was very thorough and efficient and the team was great from checking in to leaving !

Told me surgery wouldn't help my neck pain but didn't clearly explain why and was very impatient with questions. Offered no suggestions except to take a medication that I had taken which caused me severe problems, but he discounted my gastroenterologist's evaluation and recommendation on this with no further discussion. I felt he cavalierly dismissed me and my concerns. Too hurried.

Don't count on him to help you with any workers comp issues. I needed a letter from him and he wouldn't write one. He said his office notes were what w/c needs. When I told him they want a letter,he would not write one. He kept asking me if I have a Lawyer and I kept telling him "NO". It was like he was afraid to write a letter.

I started seeing Dr. Banks in 2016 for neck issues which caused pain and numbness in my upper extremities. Physical therapy and pain management was prescribed and ultimately, surgery in 2017. Surgery at the C3-4 was performed at Mercy Hospital with immediate relief from all my prior problems; only pain from initial surgery I endured for which Dr. Banks always made sure I did not suffer needlessly. After five-weeks of recovery, I was back to normal.

Very unsatisfactory visit with the doctor. Had an epidural in spine without relief. Doctor insisted we return the next week for an appointment to assess my 82 year old father's severe pain. My father has dementia and not able to explain himself as well as he would like. Dr. was not interested in helping us deal with his acute pain as soon as we explained we were also working with another doctor for his arthritis. Very disappointed in lack of care for a senior in pain.

He did a fantastic job on my back.. Went to see him because lower back is bothering me. He treated me like all I wanted was drugs. All I wanted was to find out how to get rid of the pain. Very disappointed in my last visit.

Dr. Banks was my previous surgeon, I left after having 3 epidural injections that were the worst pain I ever felt, he does not use numbing agents for injection sites so have something to bite down on, he doesn't listen to the patient, and it took me to pretty much crawl into the office for him to get me pain medication, since I left him I found a new surgeon and she had so many more options and compassion, we proceeded to artificial disc replacement, stay away from the butcher banks

Thanks to Dr. Banks I have almost zero back and leg pain today and I can continue to do my day to day activities without any problems. My recovery from surgery was quick and I look forward to my next check up meeting to hear about my progress. I highly recommend him to anyone suffering from long term back and leg pain.

I will not be going to see him or this clinic again. He is knowledgeable but the clinic it self is horrible. It is a one stop shop in a bad way. He does not use numbing medication while performing his epidural injection!! And I find it very strange to go to a place that sees patients, has a pain clinic, oh and does epidurals, oh and CT's and MRI's. All right there. They do not have nurses and the Dr jumps back and forth from clinic to preform radiology procedures. Hmmmm.
