Dr. Gregory Vail Keating

I'm a fairly new patient, but have a dental HMO that most won't take unless it's one of those mass-production offices with 50 dental students providing the services. Dr. Keating is not that! So far, Dr Keating, office staff and the hygenists have been great! It can be a little tricky parking and leaving as the spaces are right on Powder Mill, so watch traffic, but so far, this has not been a big issue for me.

While I find Dr. KEATING, himself and his dental assistants to be skilled and pleasant, his office manager was extremely rude to me. I tried to tell her that a procedure the doctor had to do to fit my partials wound up chipping the back of one of my front teeth. They filled the hole and didn’t charge me a copay. But apparently they tried to bill it through my insurance, which wouldn’t pay for it. I found all this out when I asked her for my final balance and why it was so high. I tried to explain to her that I shouldn’t have been charged for that visit because the problem was a result of the previous procedure involved drilling dents into my teeth so the partial could fit properly. She said she doubted if they drilled my teeth - condescending. How would she know and it implied I was lying. I raised my voice at first then quickly calmed down and apologized to which she responded ‘ I don’t know why you’re raising your voice at me “ and ‘of you would just listen…”. I asked to speak to her manager. She said she WAS the manager. I said Dr. Keating is in big trouble if he has her representing his practice. She said she’d leave a message for him and abruptly hung up on me. I tried to call back to speak to someone else but got out directly into voicemail. I don’t usually do bad reviews because I don’t like putting people’s livihoods in jeopardy. If it was just a matter of her being rude, I wouldn’t trip. I have no ego. But COME On, you’re trying to fleece me on the bill AND you’re giving me nasty attitude? It’s a shame. Drm Keating is a great dentist. But his management staff need retraining or maybe get better pay/benefits if they’re stressed out or something. All I know is I nor any other patient deserves this type of treatment. This is the worst dentist that I ever visited. Lost a tooth and lost money. Your fine tooth will not be fine anymore by going to this dentist. They suggested a crown for your fine tooth. I just realized it when the insurance did not approve the claim because the insurance did not see from the x-ray why the tooth needs to be crown when the fillings could solve the problem. The dentist's excuse was because I was considering braces. Do you think the crown can not be done after the braces? Especially to a fine tooth! And I had so many issues with the crown. First it did not fit, it hurt. I had to go back there so they could fix it. Second, it fell in a week. Third, it fell again in 18 months! Worst dentist!!

Accounting was terrible. They assessed me charged me and then charged me again because they said my procedure was not covered for what they originally asked for. BE CAREFUL THEY SEND ME TO COLLECTIONS. NO CALL TO TELL ME OR WORK OUT A PAYMENT PLAN. I do think at least a call would have been nice to work it out. Just had my first appointment. What an arrogant, cruel human being. I was in the chair 40 minutes before he even bother to come in and talk to me. He walked in with an attitude, cut me off three times while I was trying to explain my dental history. Then when I interrupted him because he was not listening to me he told me I was cutting HIM off and he didn’t need to take me on as a patient. He was completely correct. I don’t need to have him as my dentist. However he had no problem charging me $100 for the X-rays. The good reviews must be friends or family because this man has zero manners. Very friendly and skilled dentist. I've never really had to wait long; they usually have you in a dentist chair soon after arrival. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. The office is nice. Dr. Keating is thorough, professional and always attentive to my dental needs. I've been seeing him and his staff for years. Prices are very reasonable and care always taken by his professional staff as well. From the front desk staff to each hygienist, they are friendly and courteous.

Love the staff...everyone is awesome. Make you feel like you're part of the family...I enjoy going to the dentist.

Did a botch job and overcharged me twice. Had to find another dentist to clean up his work. Unbelievable.

Best docotor ever!! Very honest and sincere! He is not going to make you do stuff that you dont need to do! I went to his office for two years before having to do any thing aside from cleaning. (That was a crown replacement because I broke mine).

Even though no one really likes going to the dentist, I love my visits at Calverton Dental Care. The entire staff is simply awesome! Dr. Keating is the best! The atmosphere is inviting, warm and calming. I love the music and art.

Not recommended: several fillings that I had done in Dr. Keating's office fell out within a year or so.

The best dentist I have met, the first honest doctor who didn't rip me off. My previous dentist place two crowns in my chewing teeth which caused me to have bad TMJ pain and was telling me I grind my teeth. After 6 months of taking painkillers for the TMJ, I looked for another dentist for a second opinion. When I went to Dr. Keating he said my jaw was off because of the new crowns. He drilled them down and did not charge me anything. He was honest and he took my pain away which I am so grateful for. He will be my dentist going forward and I highly reccomend Dr. Keating. The staff was super nice and there was only a 10 minute wait. The world needs more honest and caring dentists like Dr. Keating. Very content with my first appointment with this office. I was skeptical, at first, because the building looked like a standard living home. However, the inside resembles any standard dental office. The staff was professional and my cleaning/exam was quick but thorough. Plan to return!

Most incompetent staff I've ever encountered. Scheduled an appointment for a bridge at least two weeks prior, I arrive on the day of my appointment and the idiot at the front desk tells me that my insurance doesn't cover the service. Hey moron, why didn't you call me to let me know?!!! Did you really think I was going to come out of pocket $1200.. tstl. I turned right around and left, a complete waste of time. Dr. Keating's services are well overpriced. In my case, the office has always charged me more than amount allowed by my dental plan. Meaning that I often had to pay the difference out of pocket. Another problem is a wait time. Unless you are doing a routine cleaning, which is always on time, it could be an hour or more. As a dentist, he's been relatively good, although the very first filling I had in his office had to be redone the very next day. I have been coming to Dr. Keating since he took over this practice about 10 years ago. He is the best dentist I've ever had!

This was the most comfortable and professional dentist office I have ever been seen in. I recently changed insurance and a co-worker referred me to Dr. Keating due to the close proximity to the office. Everyone was very friendly and professional from the minute I walked in. The office is clean and well stocked with magazines and children's toys. My hygienist Sarah was incredibly nice and made me feel relaxed and at ease. I have anxiety in dental offices but she calmed me down and was very gentle even though I knew I would need a lot to be cleaned. Dr. Keating was very nice and knowledgeable. He made me feel as if everything would be okay and nothing would be so bad that I couldn't handle it. Dr. Keating has been our family dentist for several years now, and my most recent visit was this morning. We became patients by circumstances beyond our control: our former dentist no longer took our dental insurance and Dr. Keating's practice was one of the few that did. I couldn't be happier with our good fortune. Dr. Keating's practice is a well run operation. The staff is efficient--you receive phone reminders several days and one day prior to your appointment time. The waiting room is comfortable and well stocked with reading material. I have never encountered more than two persons in the waiting room at any time I was there, and I have NEVER waited longer than 10 minutes. A complete routine visit (with cleaning) is usually less than an hour. The staff is professional, courteous and on time. The treatment rooms are very clean and well equipped. Dr. Keating is very skilled, knowledgeable and current. He has a great rapport with the patients. When needed, he makes referrals to very competent specialists. At the completion of the visit, a patient never leaves the office without a goodie bag. If one cancels a visit prior to the scheduled appointment day, rescheduling is not a problem. However, there is a nominal fee for a missed appointment, but given the that the office makes several attempts to notify patients with reminders prior to the day of the appointment, the charge is fair. Certainly, no one can please 100% of the people 100% of the time, but the negative comments in a previous post about Dr. Keating's practice is incredulous, and in my opinion, an utter fabrication. Nothing could be further from the truth. For some people, a visit to the dentist is a nerve wracking (distressing) experience.
