Dr. James H. Tanner

Dr. Tanner is an outstanding dentist who is very kind, gentle, and who truly cares about his patients. He called me after surgery to make sure I was doing okay. His grafts have lasted many years. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Just yesterday, 5/21/22, I went into Dr. Tanner for two implants. We got started right on time. 1. Liberal lidocaine. He ensured the gums were numb for the novacaine. He explained he wanted to take his time on this part to ensure no pain later. 2. Novacaine. The shots were administered and told me when the pinch was coming each time. Always asking if ok. Any pain was brief (1-2 seconds). Glad he was thorough. 3. Extraction. Front tooth extraction. Zero pain. 4. Drilled into bone in two spots. Zero pain. 5. Inserted the implants -- took time to align them with multiple xrays as well. 6. Once satisfied he took time to work on the temporary bridge, ensuring it fit well (i have a deep bite). 7. Placed the bridge with focus on ensuring a steady fit. 8. Stitched up gum 9. Done. I was in and out in 1.5 hours. They called in the amoxicillan 500mg scrip within the hour. Picked up at CVS for $1.39. Celebrated at Starbucks with an iced coffee for swelling. At 5:30, when I mentioned I had two implants to a friend, they asked where the swelling was. As i write this the next day, no swelling or discomfort. Tanner and Hailey (assistant) were great and knew there was a patient with them, asking my status all along the way. My son who is studying to be an oral surgeon asked .. A periodontist doing implants? Yep. Did a great job too.

This man gave me an antibiotic that is a death sentence. it's a slow but sure death via permanent liver damage. I told his staff I could not have a strong antibiotic. I wish I'd never walked into that office. The whole operation is sloppy and incompetent.

Not recommended for implants. I had an implant done 3/2019 and was reassured I'd get amoxicillin as I told staff I could not tolerate stronger antibiotics. When I left I was given clindamycin which I didn't recognize (but who questions it at that point when you can't talk and are terrified of infection). I now have (more than a year later) what seems to be permanent IBS which I did not have before and life has been miserable ever since. The equipment is also cheap for this kind of surgery (cheap xray equipment). I also doubt his skill as a dental surgeon since I had lots of pain afterwards..more than usual with implants.

6 months now and the too powerful antibiotic he gave me has made me a semi invalid. That drug wasn't necessary. Other dentists have given me other antibiotics that didn't wreck my system. Don't go near this guy. (Updated from previous)

Godawful experience. I had an implant done and he just gave me the usual anesthetic and I stayed awake the whole time. PTSD from the experience and then he gave me a drug that crashed my system for months afterwards. I still haven't recovered after 6 months. Have had to stay in bed every 2 days. For gods sake don't go to this guy. There are other dental surgeons in the area that do good jobs on implants.

Terrible experience. Talked to me as if I were a child and charged me $115 for the privilege.
