Dr. Javier A Pou

I took printouts of my test results related to the condition I was seeing Dr. Pou about. He did not look at them and handed the papers back to me at the end of the visit. He spoke to me for about 10 minutes, as I had expected, he suggested scheduling me for and upper GI (the appointment was for a Sunday). I liked Dr. Pou the first time I saw him for a different condition, and now I think he only knows how to schedule procedures to pay for his expensive equipment that he has in his facility in Harrisonburg. Very disappointing.

This was the most unprofessional office I've ever seen. First, they moved and didn't alert me even though I had a consultation; they didn't even leave a sign on the door, and google maps were not updated. Then they "forgot" to tell me I needed a Covid test ahead of time (no mention of it in the paperwork) even though I assume this has been true for over a year, and then they claimed they had no way of knowing the fax with my prep stuff didn't go through even though a fax machine will let you know. They were rude and made excuses. Cancelled.. and glad I didn't let them into my body.

This guy is the absolute worst! My primary care physician referred me to him for a specific issue. He and his assistant questioned me extensively why I was using him when I had previously used another gastroenterologist. He gave me, at best, one piece of widely-known advice and then said he couldn't help me. He then tried to examine me for an unrelated issue that I told him I was already under another doctor's care for. I left before he could do it. I would not otherwise say anything but I just learned he billed my insurance for the visit. I gained nothing from it but he is such a pig he wants to get paid for it anyway.

I was referred to Dr. Pou by Sherry Mongold, NP, who highly recommended him. I must say I agree! From the very first phone call, to leaving my procedure, I cannot sing enough high praises! Everyone was polite, helpful, informative, fun, professional, caring, and the list goes on... I could also detect a strong sense of teamwork, which makes the dream work! That is so very important in any situation, especially in the medical field, as that is where I have been for the last 42 years; so I have seen a lot! I also had a follow-up visit (via Telehealth) and it was extremely user friendly and as if I were right there in the clinic. I have already recommended Dr. Pou and will continue to do so! Keep up the good work! Thank you for everything!

Excellent care was given to me so I would be made comfortable. Very clean and staff and physician were friendly. I have had two other colonoscopies and they were in no comparison to the service I received at Shenandoah Valley Gastroenterology Center.

From start to finish I felt cared for, not just a number: from the easiness of scheduling the initial appointment with the doctor (within weeks) to the successful procedure and the follow up care. I left the building with a copy of the procedure report, one was faxed to my PCP that same day and my results were posted on my portal The staff goes out of their way to help every patient and the doctor is very thorough and made sure all my questions were answered. Hands down the best value and quality care in The Valley

Dr Pou is excellent! He keeps up to date with lastest information and really Works with his patients. He's been my Doctor for 14 years and have appreciated all his care and advice. His wife is extremely nice to in working to get you scheduled. His office is very professionals aswell as staff. Love not having to go to hospital for everything. ????

I want to share my experience with Dr Pou. Dr Pou was kind, explained everything and results were waiting when I left the office. If you find yourself waiting, it is because the patients before you may have unexpected problems., be patient you will get the same great care when it’s your turn. This was the most comfortable colonoscopy I have ever had, the staff was patient and professional. Highly recommend this practice.

Very good at doing the testing - very efficient and smooth. NO AFTERCARE OR QUESTIONS ANSWERED. Went WEEKS w/o him calling in the single prescription that was NEEDED and I finally had my family doctor do it. Each time I called about it a person would tell me it would get taken care of very soon and it never was! I went to a different GI (at a group practice) and the comment to me was, "Oh so he's still up to his old tricks." STAY AWAY if you need treatment. He just wants payment for procedures

The office is very inconsiderate of your time. I have never been here that they are running even close to scheduled time. Usually you are sitting in the waiting room or small room for over an hour before you get to see the doctor.

I went to Dr Pou and had a colonoscopy to diagnose a problem, and to get it done because, its that time, 50 years old. Dr Pou and his staff were friendly and professional, the wait time was a little more than I like but overall I had a good experience and plan to return for follow up colonoscopy in 5 years.

Referral sent to Dr. Pou office . They never responded or scheduled appointment. I made several calls. Was told they would call after reviewing referral. Called again, still no response. Don’t waste your time with this office.

Wonderful doctor! Finally a doctor who really cares about his patients. An expert in his field with a wonderful bedside manner. Highly recommend!

I had been seeing Dr. Pou about hemorrhoids when I felt some large knots in my upper abdomen. I told him about this and he ordered an ultra-sound for the next week. I had it one morning; by 1pm that day his office called me to say that it showed a kidney problem and they had already made a urology appointment for me for early the next week. Anyway, all of this has led to an early diagnosis of a kidney tumor and lymphoma. So grateful for his concern and quick action!!

Just had my colonoscopy done. I was very satisfied with Dr Pou and his staff. I found him to be professional, personable and thorough.

New to the area and was unsure of who to call- Dr. Pou and his staff got me right in to address my problem. He sat and discussed my treatment options along with using a newer non-invasive treatment for my problem. I've been back for my routine colonoscopy and follow-up. I'm so impressed with the care he and his staff show. I have so much confidence in Dr. Pou that my son has made an appointment.

With a colon cancer history, I have had several colonoscopies in the hospital. Then a friend recommended Shenandoah Valley Gastroenterology, and my experience there with my last several colonoscopies proved to be so positive I plan to continue as a client of Shen Valley Gastro. With Dr. Pou and staff's kindness, patience, excellent care and expertise, and the comfortable, homey atmosphere, why would I go back to the hospital or elsewhere for gastro needs?

I am not sure who some of these reviewers saw, but it wasn't the Dr. Pou I know! I have been seeing him for over 3 years, and so has my mother. He is the best GI in the area... I do have to wait a bit each time I go, but it is WELL worth it... and I know that I am waiting because he is giving other patients the same consideration and care that he gives me. He is incredibly thorough and patient, and is concerned with your overall well-being - not just your GI issues. Thanks, Dr. Pou!

Upon entering the office I encountered an extremely rude receptionist who's only words were "I need your insurance card" "fill out these forms". Dr. Pou was dismissive and rude. He seemed to be in a hurry and not have time to listen to my medical concerns. I have never been treated so poorly by a medical professional and was almost in tears when I left his office. The physical exam made me extremely uncomfortable and I immediately insisted he and the nurse leave the room.

Dr Pou, you are not a god, get off your ivory column and realize people deserve better treatment. I waited over an hour each time to see you then was treated like a nobody, you cut my questions off, didn't want any questions when told what you were going to do, rushed thru the appointment-you were in with me 7 minutes at my first appointment. My procedure must not have been done right as shortly after, started having the same problem. I will never come back nor recommend you.

This was my first colonoscopy. I went to the Harrisonburg location and I really appreciated the quiet, calm atmosphere. Dr. Pou answered all my questions and was very helpful. The procedure itself went so smoothly. Everyone was so kind and went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and all my needs were met. I just wish everyone would go and get their colonoscopy.

Pretty much treated me as an oil change on a 1972 Ford pinto. About as personable as a stump

Upon entering Dr. Pou's office I told him that I didn't want a colonoscopy. Nevertheless he spent the rest of the visit trying to "sell" me one although none of my symptoms suggested colon cancer. He made no other suggestions, asked no questions and my physical "examination" lasted about 30 seconds. I am convinced that he is only concerned with "selling" colonoscopies to every gullible patient who walks in the door. It was the most useless visit I have ever had with any doctor in my life.

Rude and incompetent. All he wanted to do was sell me his on hemorrhoid treatment, even though I don't have a big problem with them. Took months to get my results. His office staff misbillled insurance, and refused to fix the problem. My advise is to avoid this place at all costs.

I had a great experience. Dr. Pou is very polite. He explained the process of the procedure well and went over everything with me. He was also talking to me during the procedure which made me more comfortable.

Very nice. Make me feel comfortable before the procedure.

Everything went really smoothly. I usually don't do well under sedation but this time I felt great.

The doctor and his staff do not have time for the care and attention that each patient deserves. Nor do they have compassion. There is lots of out patient testing done but no diagnosis, or explanation of the results of the testing, lots of shrugs, no answers to questions, and rushes to get to the door! Save yourself lots of time and money and find another doctor more patient oriented. The staff is overworked and there is no return phone calls, scheduling, or posting of results.

Find another gastroenterologist. He seems rushed, because he opens the door to leave the room during conversation. The staff are forgetful and don't call you back. Dr. Pou referred me to lots of outpatient testing and offered no diagnosis. After I had over a month's worth of outpatient testing and uncomfortable symptoms, he still had no diagnosis. After all testing, our consultation began with him saying, OK I have not looked at any of your results yet -- a telling sign of his disregard.

Excellent experience. Subsequent routine procedures at AHC---endoscopy and colonoscopy went very well. Took time today to answer all questions and discuss situation. Office staff at Harrisonburg location very helpful.

Felt appt was very rushed. I had a colonoscopy and crh performed. He didn't explain the procedure at all. I had no idea that I would have 3 or more visits to complete. I actually still need a 4th crh but won't go back. I am seeking the consel of a proctologist.
