Dr. Helwig is a friendly, meticulous and ultimately calm emergency room physician with a great sense of humor. He repaired a nasty dog bite wound that could have been infected or worse. He spent a great deal of time cleaning, and eventually stitching the nasty wound that even he said could have used a ha d surgeon. When a hand surgeon looked at the wound after Dr. Helwig has treated it she was impressed with the lack of infection and excellent craftsmanship of the sutures and overall wound fix.

I saw Dr Jeffrey due a an allergic reaction to my face. I told him I was advised to put hydrocortizone on it and it made it worse. I ask for steroid cream. He said the hydro cream was a steroid, what did I think would happen if I put steroid cream on. Then he said it was serious - go to the hospital for steroid iv's. I said if steroids give me this serious reaction on my skin, what will happen is he puts the steroids in my body. He just shrugged and said 'I don't know'. And for this he charged me over $1,330.00! I can't take benedryl. Steroid taken by IV would have harmed me! And I should pay for bad advice? PLEASE HELP ME!

I went to the ER due to an allergic reaction on my skin. I had tried cortisone cream that had intensified my reaction. Dr Helwig said he could not give me any other steroid cream because of that reaction. Then he said my condition was serious and he wanted me to go the hospital and put steroids in me intravenously. I asked him...if put steroids on my skin and get a reaction, what happens when you put in inside? He said I don't know!. He charged me $1337.00 which I was never told about. HELP ME
