Reviews for Dr. Joanne N Knapik
We were recommended by a friend to Dr Knapik as I was havibg trouble finding a good pediatrician. I transferred all of my child’s care to her practice. Biggest mistake of my life. At the time we didn’t realize my son had an underlying diagnosis that caused major developmental physical and cognitive delays. We were first time parents, so we were a bit behind as well. As a pediatrician I am sure she realized it, but never once mentioned anything. Her only remark at one of our visits was, “we’ll see him back in 3 months for his 15 mth check to see where he’s at, if he’s shown no progress I’ll refer you to a specialist to find out if he’ll ever walk!” And walked out of the room. Then i sat in the room with my child and cried for over an hour, over what has just come out of her mouth. We were told to wait for one of the nurses to come in with his 15 month vaccinations, we waited and waited. When the nurse wasn’t coming in, I went out to check to see what was going on, they were just standing at the counter, confused as to why I was still there, Dr Knapik never gave them the order for my sons vaccines. This was over 5 years ago and I think about it all the time, because it was one of the worst experiences of my life. To hear those words coming from a professional was absolutely devastating. Dr. Knapik was my doctor from childhood up until I was 16. I am now almost 21, so it’s been a while. I had reoccurring tonsillitis and saw her at LEAST two times a year from the ages of 13-16. Every time I saw her she would just give me a strep test, sometimes not even doing that. It always came back negative of course. She told me it would pass every single time and that I didn’t need them out and never gave me any medication for it. The last time I saw her, exactly four years ago today, she had me fill out a mental health questionnaire that all doctors have their patients fill out. I answered honestly, and she had diagnosed me with depression after giving me a longer questionnaire to fill out. I used to self harm, and that was a question on the form. My mother knew this, and was always there for me. She was the one person who really supported me and made me feel needed. So, while she had a psychologist come in and talk to me, she stood outside the door with my mom and the next thing I heard was yelling, only from her end. I never heard my mom speak once. They were out there for probably 15 minutes. She degraded my mom, telling her she was a horrible parent for not doing anything (which she did). My mom came back in crying. And it is hard to make my mom cry. Then I was put under the care of Dr. Glossin at the Woodstock location. When I went to see her, she referred me immediately to a throat specialist and got me in right away. When I saw him, he told me I needed my tonsils out IMMEDIATELY and that he hadn’t seen any tonsils that bad in a really long time. He said they were so bad that if anyone had sneezed near me, I would get sick from that. *Moral of the story, if you want misdiagnosed treatment, yelling (especially if you’re a parent), and being talked down to, Dr. Knapik is your lady. I’m honestly convinced she just does that so you’re forced to keep coming back and she’ll get a larger paycheck. * Dr. Knapik was my doctor from childhood up until I was 16. She saved my daughter’s life. Plain and simple. Without her, my kid would’ve waited in an ER waiting room for who knows how long... she had us back being seen within 10 minutes after I spoke to her on the phone. She facilitated after care as well. She’s great.
Dr. Knapik was my pediatrician growing up and is now my children’s pediatrician. We love her. She is kind, attentive and caring. She never rushes us at appointments and she responds quickly when I submit questions outside of appointments. Highly recommend!
If I could give no stars I would! I have been taking my kids to this office for years, I was told that Dr. Knapik was great by a friend of mine so I transferred my kids (we moved to the area). I was not fond of her so we started to see Dr. Redlich, by the way Dr. Redlich is AMAZING!!!!!, and that was a great choice for us. There was a couple of time that I would have to take my kids to Dr. Knapik because Dr. Redlich was not available. Well yesterday put me over the top!!! I WILL NEVER TAKE MY KIDS TO DR. KNAPIK AGAIN!!! My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed when she was 7 years old, and for 10 years she continues to get strep throat it never fails it is at minimal once a year but sometimes she gets it twice a year. If we ketch it at the very beginning the results always come back negative, they always have to send it out unless its been more then a couple of days of symptoms. When she did the exam she just flashed her light, nothing else, and said I see nothing. I tried to tell her that that morning I saw a white spot, she said well there is nothing now. I tried to tell her that she doesn't get fevers like that, but she wouldn't listen to me about that either. She then asked if my daughter had MONO, but nothing further was said or done... She then told me that they no longer send the tests out that the test in the office is 99% accurate and she will not give my daughter the medication because I said she needs it. Well Dr. Knapik would not listen to me, she kept cutting me off. I asked her to listen since I know how my daughter is and she doesn't see her on a regular basis. She proceeded to tell me that I insulted her as a Dr. She even left the door open and continued to talk, I reminded her that she is breaking the HIPPA Law and she laughed at me then shut the door. I have never been so angry at this office before, I am waiting for the Practice Manager to call me back. I will have to take my daughter again because this morning guess what its way worse! she has more white bumps and she has been up all night. She cant swallow either... BECAUSE ITS STREP THROAT!! The blue was last night, notice its red?? The red is this morning, guess what her throat, neck and tongue is swollen with WHITE spots!!! She cant sleep, cant be touched on her neck, and cant lay down with out pain!! If I could give no stars I would! Dr. Knapik had good bedside manners as she tended to my 2 & 4 year old boys. She was thorough in her checks, found the root of their issues and prescribed meds for each. Thanks doctor!
I'd be surprised if this doctor has children of her own because she is very by the book and doesn't seem to understand every day life with a toddler. Her demeanor is cold and detatched. She makes me feel like an idiot and my daughter is terrified of her (yet ok with the nurses who deliver the shots). That said I don't think she is incompetent, just not warm or relatable. Dr. Knapik has been both of my son's doctor for over 10 years. I believe she saved my older sons life. The 911 EMTS sent us home telling us they thought he was fine. I knew he was not okay. He was acting weird. He thought he might have drank too much water. (He was 16 or 17) I called Dr Knapik's office and she called back and told me to take him IMMEDIATELY to the ER. Long scary story but he DID drink too much water and needed to be admitted to pediatric ICU. He is fine now but I will always be grateful for the wise direction of Dr.Knapik. Dr. Knapik very recently misdiagnosed my son with chicken pox. My son has been vaccinated for it and has had skin lesions for over a month now, so I was very unsure of her diagnosis. After she diagnosed him, she quickly started blocking off the hallway, like a traffic cop and drew all kinds of attention to us as we were escorted down a fire exit stairwell and out the back door. They made me wrap him up and cover his head with a smock...no check out process, didn't give me a follow up appointment. The lack of compassion was staggering. I called back and told the nurse I thought he needed an allergy test and was doubtful of pox...i was told to call back in a week if his condition didn't change. Like I said, he'd already been dealing with this for a month so another week of isolation and discomfort was not happening. I found a new physican who pinpointed his ailement and treated it with cream amd antibiotics. I seriously do not recommend Dr. Knapik. 04/17/2018 Dr. Knapik very recently misdiagnosed my son with chicken pox. We have been seeing Dr. Knapik about 3 and half years now. We started at centegra pediatrics with another doctor who left the practice and we were moved over to dr. Knapik. I'll admit at first I wasn't a fan she's a tough cookie... must be her Canadian ways. Anywho over the years we have learned to read each other and respect eachnother and she is extremely helpful with my kids. She always asks about both children regardless of who I am actually there for. I love the staff and her willingness to find solutions. We have been seeing Dr. Knapik about 3 and half years now. Dr. Knapik is extremely passionate about her practice and knows what she is doing.
Dr Knapik is very thorough. She is friendly and kind to the kids and makes us all feel at ease. She helped diagnose a rare disease my son has that his previous doctor missed.

She made my 15 year old daughter so uncomfortable asked her multiple times if she was sexually active and would not let it drop. My daughter is on a form of birth control because of heavy periods and her being so athletic. My daughter can bench 140 squat 400 but she told my daughter to watch her weight and only did her bmi on her stomach not her arms or legs which are pure muscle! She made my daughter so upset and self conscious. She was so upset because she did not believe her and was rude!

Not a fan of this doctor. My two year old can't even sleep because she's coughing up so much mucus. She was given absolutely nothing at all. This is not my first bad experience with this doctor. Never again will I see her.
Dr Knapik was my son's physician for a little over a year. At his 3 month check up, she spent a total of 5 minutes with him. Then, she proceeded to tell me it was very likely that he had cerebral palsy, because "he seemed really stiff" well I mean you are giving a 12 week baby multiple vaccines... . *anyways* I was referred to a specialist and waited months for his evaluation. Well, long story short, my son DOES NOT have cerebral palsy. Not even close. The specialists who came and evaluated him were confused as to why they were there. There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with him. I spent MONTHS crying myself to sleep with worry over it. Dr Knapik needs to spend more time with her patients, or simply choose another profession. I felt like a fool when these kind ladies drove all the way out to my home to evaluate my son for a condition that he had no symptoms of. Now, my son is a happy and healthy 3 year old with NO mobility issues. I just wish that his first pediatrician had taken more time with him before making rash diagnoses. Dr Knapik also prescribed him an antibiotic for a cold when he was 6 months old. I was hesitant to give any to my son since he honestly didn't seem that sick, but I gave him 2 doses just to see. Fast forward to the middle of the night- we're in the emergency room. Why? My son has colitis from the antibiotics and was bleeding out of his poor little bum. The ER doctor was absolutely mortified that a pediatrician would prescribe an ANTIBIOTIC to a baby with a MILD cold! (Which, by the way, she said was an "upper respiratory infection" that he didn't have...) please, please, please take your kiddos to a different pediatrician. One who will spend time with them, listen to your concerns, and prescribe medication only when absolutely necessary. Or at least get a second opinion- some people are just in it for the money. We had an amazing experience every time we visited Dr. Knapik with our kids for many years. She was highly recommend by our cousin. No matter which kid we would bring to her to be seen, she would also inquire about or take a quick look at anothe kid just to make sure they were well too. She takes her time and never cuts corners. I felt like she walks an exta mile in any matter. Dr. Knapik is one of my favorite doctors I've have ever had a pleasure of working with. She is an experienced and a very sweet doctor. We are so grateful for every time she had saved the day! She's everything we would ever want in a pediatrician! My son and I love Dr. Knapik. She's incredibly sweet, listens to both the child AND the parent, and makes certain that she doesn't ONLY listen to mom or dad! She takes the time to explain things to Evan and ask HIM the questions, and we really love that about her. We have seen her a few times for random colds/flus/tummy troubles, and she's not one to immediately toss us some medications and have us call her in 2 weeks. Very thorough, and our favorite pediatrician.

Dr. Knapik has been both of my children's Pediatrician since we moved into the area 19 years ago. Dr. Knapik is the ONLY Dr. who listened to me and worked with me to help my son with his Asthma, allergies and eczema. Dr. Knapik was always available when we had an emergency she knew both my kids from the day she met them and is the most caring and knowledgeable pediatrician I have ever known. I trust her with my children and I absolutely recommend her.
Admonished me about my children's weight after not being proactive with me the year before about it and then telling me I wasn't remembering correctly. I was remembering correctly as they are my children. She was terse and abrupt. If your looking for warm and fuzzy..look elsewhere. You will never be right about your child with this woman.
