John Byron Maccarthy

Dr. John McCarthy was my anesthesiologist for my most recent surgical procedures. He visited me in the preop room prior to my surgery. He immediately pulled up my chart on the computer and asked me about my previous anesthesia history experiences. Previously I had a very traumatic experience with long term side effects from poor placement of the tubing used in the anesthesia process at the same hospital, as well as waking up in the recovery room with severe pain. So I was terrified to go through another round of that again. I truly wanted to back out of the appointment altogether. Dr. McCarthy listened to my concerns and told me what he would do to prevent the tubing injuring my throat and voice. He told me the information I gave him helped him to know what he needed to do and explained what it was he would do to do his due diligence to prevent what happened previously. I believe that half the battle of a successful surgery is the skill of the anesthesiologist. I am so very happy to report that I had no side effects that lasted beyond 24-36 hours, and even those were minimal. With 30 years experience, he’s the man you want to trust knowing your safety is his priority. He was reassuring, confident, and took pride in doing his job well. We need more doctors like him.
