Went to see a Dr Pillsbury at UNC and he was not very bright so I went to see Dr McEveen and he was wonderful!!

Could not recommend this Dr. enough. Dr. McElveen gave me my hearing back not in one but both my ears. I would never be able to thank this man enough. He was able to correct my problems when another doctor could not. He's a skillful surgeon and I'm thankful he is my doctor. His office staff is wonderful and courteous.

Dr. McElveen is an incredibly talented surgeon who gave me my hearing back after I had been told it was impossible. I would absolutely send anyone to him in the future.

After losing my hearing in a car accident, Dr McElveen managed to rebuild the bone in my left ear, and put in a metal prosthesis in the right. I now have 0% hearing loss in both ears! The first doctor I had seen told me they couldn’t fix it, so Dr McElveen was a miracle.

The best Cochlear office ever. My mom was completely deaf and her Cochlear implant made it possible to carry on a conversation. We are so thankful for Dr. McElveen and his entire staff. Bravo.

Dr McElveen repaired my eardrum back when I was in middle school, back in the '90s. I'd been to one doc who terrified me after vaccuuming a polyp out of my ear canal, causing some blood. As a 10- or 11-year-old kid, I was worried that Dr M would be the same, but I quickly realized why he had received at least one award. He placed a couple of utensils in my ear, including the same type of mini-vaccum the first doc had used, to inspect the situation, and I felt no pain whatsoever. He later rebuilt my thinned eardrum successfully, and to this day I have good hearing with no problems following the surgery. I believe Dr. McElveen truly is one of the best ENTs out there. Yes! I had a Cholesteatoma that needed repair. The staff was wonderful to work with and Dr McElveen assessed, diagnosed, presented a plan in one visit. I decided on surgery at Greenville Hospital, which was an efficient and pleasant experience (as much as it could be during a pandemic). Surgery went well and the whole situation was remedied. Would definitely recommend this office to anyone .

Dr. McElveen was a complete answer to prayer. I can honestly say he changed my life for the better. I was diagnosed with otosclerosis a few years ago and struggled to hear, even with a hearing aid. When I moved to NC in 2020, I heard about Dr. McElveen, but was still skeptical about having a stapedotomy surgery. After my first visit with him I was completely put at ease that he was the right man for the job, and he performed a miracle on me when he did the stapedotomy on my right ear a few weeks later. Now my hearing in the surgical ear is better than it was when I was using a hearing aid. I’m so glad I didn’t wait to get the surgery done and it has improved my life immensely. He was a wonderful doctor throughout the entire process and I cannot wait to go back to get surgery on the other ear. The office staff was also very nice and his nurse practitioner was amazing.

I was having trouble hearing, and my ear doctor in my hometown recommended that I see Dr. McElveen in Raleigh, which is a 3 hour, one way, commute. I arranged to see him, and he and his staff were the most professional team around! Not only did he repair my eardrum, but also my confidence in him...he’s a well-educated physician! Thanks to him, I’m hearing at a normal level!

I would most definitely recommend Dr. McElveen to my family and friends. I went to him for a hearing loss. He gave over 100 percent to his treatment of my right ear. He worked so hard to do everything he could to restore my hearing that I felt like I could be a member of his immediate family. In my lifetime of 78 years, I have never had a doctor work any harder. I can understand why he is a leading doctor nationally and worldwide. He cares!

I have been treated at the clinic for over 10 years, including for stapes surgery, hearing aids, and the monitoring of my audiological health. I travel 100 miles for these visits. I was referred to Dr. McElveen by multiple ENT physicians. He is a gifted physician who is highly respected in his field. I have always found him to be professional and personable. His reputation is well deserved. The treatment I have received from Dr. McElveen and his clinic has greatly improved my quality of life. I would trust no other physician with my hearing needs.

Replaced my stapes. We don’t have a dr. Here who can do this procedure. He comes from Raleigh to Greenville SC to perform it. My hearing is completely restored. Great dr. Totally explained everything

I have got to give an update. I am so excited I want to shout it from the roof tops! I was sitting here at my computer in the study and heard the clock ticking in the kitchen. I said, I have never heard that clock tick before. My right ear is facing the kitchen and I thought, am I hearing that with my right ear? I picked up the phone and I can hear a faint dial tone with my right ear which was operated on October 1st by Dr. John McElveen. It is still packed solid from the operation! I have been deaf 20 years in that ear due to a huge hole. I just can't thank him, his staff, and the Lord enough! I can't wait until the packing comes out! Dr. McElveen, you are the best! There is not enough stars to give you! But, one day, the Lord will reward you plenty!

Yes, I would definitely recommend!!! I’ve recently had a stapendectomy by Dr. McElveen. He and his team are amazing! He is a direct communicator, so not lots of warm fuzzies if that’s what you are used to, but he is GOOD! Everyone was so patient as I ask so many questions and took a while to make the decision to actually have the surgery. Wish I had done it a year ago! And the best news, my hearing has been completely restored! Thanks to the entire office for what you do!

Dr. McElveen just did a stapendectomy on my right ear. It has been three weeks and nothing short of amazing. I can already hear so much better and I am so excited. With 55% hearing loss, I can finally hear normally. I can’t wait to get my left ear done in December! Thank you, Dr. McElveen!

Dr. McElveen is a really good doc but I can only give 3 starts due to his billing department practice of balance billing. I simply can't afford it.

We were referred to Dr. McElveen by our ENT due to a hole left in my 9 year old's ear from her 1st set of tubes. They told us he was the best and they were exactly right! He was friendly, courteous and informed me of the entire procedure that needed to be done. Staff were also friendly and helpful-we were informed from start to finish of how to take care of her ear post-op, things to look for, etc. We had to wait 3 hours to see him our 1st visit due to a scheduling issue made by his staff but i still rate him 5 stars due to the care we received by all. Dr. John McElveen, Jr., MD is superior in his field and I chose him for my tympanoplasty - reconstruction of the eardrum - because of his vast experience and success rates over most other surgeons. I have had hearing loss 90 % of my life and then later in adult life, dizzy spells and vertigo entered the picture. One doctor erroneously diagnosed Meniere's disease. Thank God for second opinions and Dr. McElveen. I'm blessed to have my hearing restored completely; and learning and social interactions have soared. Thank you immensely Dr. McElveen and Angela Posidente for your surpassing efforts.

Dr. McElveen rescued me from neurologists who thought I needed to see a psychiatrist due to vertigo, headaches, and Meniere's symptoms. He diagnosed me with Vestibular Migraines with Meniere's symptoms. I cannot put into words how phenomenal Dr. McElveen is! He is truly a gift from God!

There is not enough stars to give Dr. McElveen Jr. enough credit for what he has done for me! In October I was suffering from dizziness, walking with a cane, fluid coming from my nose and ears constantly, and often bouts of Vertigo. I am 71 yrs old and have had this for 20 years. Living in Simpsonville, SC, I was referred to Dr. McElveen by Dr. Patrick McClear I have been seeing for 15 years, he also had done one of my now 5 surgeries. I have a rare decease called Pseudo Tumor Cerebri with a results of making too much spinal fluid therefore it comes out of my ears and nose. On October 31, 2019 Dr. McElveen performed my surgery and was able to find 3 holes in my scull and repair them. I am free of all the things I wrote about above. Dr. McElveen came to Greenville, SC to do the surgery, explained in detail before and after to me & my husband the procedure. Took pictures of the holes in my scull and gave us copies. He is capable of handling extensive surgeries.

I have been a patient of Dr. McElveen for 4 1/2+ years. He recently performed surgery on my right ear, and I have hearing in that ear for the first time in several years. I have found him to be kind, thorough, professional, knowledgeable and cordial each and every time. He is the best in his field, and it shows. I would give him ten stars if I could!

I had surgery in 2007 to correct damage in my left ear. I was referred by my ENT in Greenville, SC. I had surgery in Raleigh, NC and have a BAHA device that I put on every day. I couldn’t be more pleased and happy for all he has done for me over the years. He is top-notch in my book. I noticed some people were upset about waiting to get in at appointments. I would wait all day to see Dr. McElveen. He will always be my hero.

There are not enough stars to say how highly we would recommend Dr. McElveen. He did what another doctor failed at which was repair my daughters ear. He listened to all of our concerns and was amazing when it came to interacting with my daughter. She likes to draw pictures for people and he kept every single one in her chart so she sees it every visit and knows he had kept it. This may seem silly, but for us it was the extra mile. The staff at his office are amazing and caring. We’d give 100 stars if we could!

Dr. McElveen removed an acoustic neuroma in 2011 and implanted a Baha hearing aid the next year. All things considered, the experience was good. I have the utmost faith in him.

Dr McElveen repaired my eardrum and increased my hearing greatly. I had surgery in Greenville, S.C. He is the best as far as I am concerned. He put me at ease about my surgery and explained the procedure and expectations in a manner I could understand. His office staff is the best. They make sure you have everything you need and are eager to answer your questions. I had put this surgery off for years because I was afraid. He eased my fears and I knew things would go well.

Dr. McElveen is a very talented surgeon who has a great compassion for his patients and their ability to hear. Dr. McElveen performed the Ponto Bone Anchoring implants on the left and right sides for me. Before the implants, I was almost completely deaf and his surgery has changed my life. Hearing my granddaughter’s voice riding in a car, touched my heart. The technology and efficiency of these implants is nothing short of a miracle. Dr. McElveen made a difference in my life in so many ways.

Dr. McElveen performed surgery on each of my ears over a six year period. The most recent surgery led to a marked improvement in my hearing. The other surgery dealt with an imbedded cyst that was successfully removed with the ear drum repaired. In both cases, Dr. McElveen was professional, efficient and effective. I have the impression that there are not many surgeons with his skills.

Dr. McElveen did my surgery for a cochlear implant. After researching centers and surgeons for a long time and originally from NYC I decided he had the expertise and reputation I was seeking. Everything from evaluation to recovery was perfect. He is the best! His audiologists are incredibly experienced and compassionate.

After being diagnosed with otosclerosis in both ears, I was referred to Dr. McElveen. He was very thorough with his exam and answered all of my questions. I had surgery in January on one ear, and on the other ear in May. He was very prompt when it came to surgery time. He took time after each surgery to speak to my husband and answer any of his questions. Dr. McEleen has done 3 surgeries on my right ear! I’ve lived my entire life not being able to hear. But now thank to Mr. McElveen I can hear! It’s amazing!! Dr. McElveen corrected an issue that I'd been dealing with for 13+ years. He is knowledgeable beyond words and he treated me and my family with the upmost respect.

Dr. McElveen is a top notch doctor and did a great job with my surgery. He explains everything well and did an excellent job. Of course he's busy and there were times that I've waited for appointments but on surgery day he was prompt and kind and clear on what was going to happen next.

Dr. McElveen made a new eardrum for my left ear and put in a titanium prosthesis where the bones behind my eardrum had deteriorated. This was a process of two surgeries about 7 months apart. Both experiences were the most professional medical procedures, consultations, follow-up appointments and interactions I have ever had with any doctor. Hearing loss in my left ear was a major factor that caused me to retire from teaching. I couldn't hear students in the back of the room. For two years, several doctors misdiagnosed my problem. I am a 41 year old mom of 3 a wife and a nurse who had lost almost all hearing in my right ear my eardrum had completely deteriorated. I was referred to Dr.McElveen who took one look in my ear and set yep I can fix your ear making you a new eardrum. That is exactly what he did and I can now hear well. I am very grateful for all he and his staff have done for me.

Treated a serious inner ear disease. Did the needle in the ear solution inside the inner ear on his recommendation. Before we went for the more intrusive treatment, operation, we tried it again. After this didn't give the result we were looking for I had to go with the operation to implant a drain tube in my inner ear. I went with it because I trusted his diagnosis and explanation of what path we had to take. I can now function at work with no vertigo and vomiting episodes.

Dr. McElveen is calm, takes time to explain things and answer questions in a way that is easy to understand, and is very sincere. He performed a middle fossa craniotomy on me to repair a skull base defect that was causing spinal fluid to leak from my ear. His high level of skill and understanding, and his wonderful bedside manner kept me at ease. I was in very capable hands! I had a very good experience with Dr. McElveen. He performed surgery on my middle ear and eardrum. We met, he did surgery, we met again, and my time with him is over. Literally, he did exactly what he said he would do and in the time frame described in our first meeting. I had the good fortune to have Dr. McElveen recommended to me to address a serious hearing issue due to the loss of one of the middle ear bones in my left ear. I was referred to Dr. McElveen by a local ENT in Greensboro, NC when an MRI revealed an that I had an acoustic neuroma. Dr. McElveen was friendly, compassionate, and he thoroughly explained the situation and my options on my first visit to his office. He also sent me home with helpful materials to read over. When it came time for the surgery to remove the tumor, he assembled a wonderful team at Duke Raleigh Hospital. My experience has been excellent given the circumstances.

Dr McElveen is the ONLY doctor you need to see for ear and hearing needs. He restored my child's hearing after two botched procedures by another ENT surgeon. Dr McElveen is very intelligent, very caring, and always has the patient's best interest in mind. We live 2 1/2 hours away, but the drive each time has been more than worth it

Was referred to Dr. McElveen to remove a growth from my right ear. I will say from my first visit, I found his staff to be both friendly and professional. Also, in meeting Dr. Mclveen for the first time, he gave me a sense of confidence that I had come to the right place. In having surgery at age 64 for the first time, I can honestly say that I was rather apprehensive, if not scared. All went well with the procedure, and I would not hesitate to return to his office for any future ear issues

Expert in his field. He exudes confidence and this shows in the way he talks, his mannerism and the way he answers questions. This is good for patients (me) because it put me at ease. My only wish is he explained the procedure in detail but I know the Dr is a busy man.

My ear doctor in Fayetteville, NC had recommended Dr McElveen to do my right ear stapedectomy. He explained the procedure clearly, and answered all my questions. The surgery was very successful and I am very grateful for the results, I can now hear in my right ear. His staff was very helpful and courteous. I am now scheduled for stapedectomy surgery on my left ear after 4 months of my first surgery. I highly recommend Dr. McElveen because of his skills as a surgeon and his professionalism.

Most caring and friendly staff. My hearing was nearly nonexisting. The pain was awful. I had a masatomia (EROSING) that damaged my hearing bone. It took to surgeries to repair. Now my hearing is restored without hearing devices. My experiences with Dr. John mcElveen, and his staff was wonderful.
