Dr. Niemela is phenomenal I wouldn't be where I'm at right now without him. His nursing staff is amazing the best I've ever seen.

He is a top notch surgeon and saved my foot when I broke my ankle out of town and had poor care until i came to him!

A wonderful Pediotrist that took the time to evaluate, explain and perform the procedure on my right foot. D.M.P. John D. Niemela and his staff took the appropriate amount of time to explain post surgery maintenance and scheduled a followup checkup at the same time. I did not feel rushed, or like "just another number", Dr. Niemela was very professional and explained everything. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend him and his staff for your Pediotrist needs, I have scheduled an appointment to have my left foot done as well. Now there is always some minor mishap with any service however in this case I do not believe it was the fault of Dr. Niemela or his immediate staff as it was a simple lack of communication on the scheduling departments team, as the first time I was scheduled for a Friday, and luckily I called first as I had not heard from anyone in scheduling to confirm my appointment, and it turned out that my appointment was actually supposed to be on the following Monday, when I inquired about this the women on the phone said that the women that is doing that scheduling is new and must have gotten things switched around. Now if this was a one time thing I wouldn't bother mentioning it but here I am at my follow-up 6 weeks later and again I did not receive a call, text, voice-mail, email or anything and I had to call again to confirm my appointment, HOWEVER, as I mentioned above, this really has nothing to do with Dr Niemela's services or performance but more so the poor hiring practices of the HR department as if they hire someone for scheduling, train them, and then they cannot even do that one simple task correctly it shows that there is something wrong there so in conclusion, Dr. Niemela is great, no worries or fear, however I would recommend calling to confirm your appointment if you do not get a call, which is not under Dr. Niemela's control, but the hospitals and so Dr. Niemela and his immediate staff get 5 out of 5 stars for excellent treatment, kindness, willingness to listen and communicate thus providing an overall nice, easy and comfortable experience. I went to Dr. Niemela for arthritis in my midfoot. He convinced me to get a big toe joint replacement and shortening one of my bones in my second toe, that was supposedly to help me. This was in 2014, after which I did not heal (the bones did not unite). After a long period of no relief and poor advice (bone stimulator which I now understand is quackery), I went to Mayo for a revision surgery (2016). What a difference! They told me I didn't need the big toe joint replaced in the first place and that I have severe arthritis around that joint. They also were very skeptical of the surgery to shorten my second toe bone. Mayo corrected the problems as they could, but I still have pain and discomfort in that joint that cannot be resolved. I would not let this "surgeon" operate on anyone I care about. He's clearly into making money by the more things he can replace.

had surgery September 25 2018 in manastique after over 20 years of walking with a crooked left foot arch was completely collapsed for years. I went to several other doctors who said my ankle had been broken and all they could do is fuse it together. Dr niemela showed me on xrays that it had never been broken and the problem was my foot had collapsed tendons and my heel was crooked and my achiles tendon was too tight causing severe pain. I didn't even mention my achiles pain to him and he spotted it as a problem. I ended up with 5 screws and 2 anchors in my foot and he lengthened my achilies. He told me it would be very good function and pain free and I was skeptical about that but figured he knows what he is talking about. Low and behold he was right. After work I used to have to hop to the bathroom on one foot it was so sore and when your in that bad of shape it wears on you mentally too. I can work all day and still get on my feet with no problem at the end of the day. I FEEL GREAT!

Completely awful. Not only bad care but infections. Also have run into two others who are going to wound care clinics to treat infections directly related to his underwhelming care provided

Focus is not on the patient. Mistakes can and did happen because of this. Personal experience was horrible. Do your research about others who had major problems with this Dr.

I discovered DR. Niemila after an accident caused my toenail to have to be removed. I am terrified to have my feet messed with, so along with that and having gone through a bad experience at another podiatrist I was quite worried. Dr. Niemila put my fears to rest. This man was so patient, gentle and kind. He was very professional, and very knowledgeable about his field. He quickly put my fears to rest, talking me through the whole procedure as much as I was comfortable. Very good experience!
