If I could give her negative stars, I would. She is The most unprofessional, childish, ridiculously behaved “doctor” I have ever dealt with in almost 18 years of working in health care. I’m disgusted with her unprofessionalism and how her focus is not on what’s best for her patients but her ego. It’s pathetic, childish, wildly unprofessional and she is the epitome of her name (and what it stands for these days) and why I don’t generally go to female physicians. If there were another endocrinologist here that my patient could go to, we would leave her in a heartbeat. She should be, at the very least, reprimanded for her actions and her behavior. I would Never recommend her to anyone.

Over 5 years ago when I was 17 Dr. Box ruled out Cushing's disease for me and told me my pain and weight gain must just be my own fault. I have hypothyroidism. Another endocrinologist later discovered that I also have PCOS. Dr. Box never mentioned this could be a possibility. She refused to give me a note stating I was in her care and explaining what was going on so that I could get an appeal for missed school. When she told me no, she said "I guess this will just be another part in your little life story." I was 17. I urge you to see someone else, especially if you struggle with any sort or mental illness. My patient experiences with this physician were abhorrent. She'd discuss important testing and lab options and wouldn't follow through in requesting them. She'd offer her medical advice and contradict that advice at following appointments. Her inconsistencies and indecisiveness caused delays in my critically needed health care, and I, ultimately, had to seek the services of an endocrinology specialist 125 miles away from me, services that should have been provided by Dr. Box and weren't. I found the medical professionalism of this physician to be lacking and wouldn't recommend her.

Reading reviews before my appointment had me so nervous. Everyone was so helpful and friendly to me. I arrived 20 minutes early because there was ALOT of paperwork before my appointment. Front desk staff so friendly and welcoming. Dr. Box's nurse took me back and started my intake. I told her how nervous I was because of the reviews and she assured me that Dr. Box is the best and I would LOVE her. Dr. Box took over an hour with me. She is so knowledgeable and easy to talk to. She has even helped work with my insurance to get some of my meds covered. I am so happy that Dr. Box is part of my medical team. I am confident that she is guiding me in the right direction. I am so thankful. Please don't go by these negative reviews, give her a chance and make your own opinion. Reading reviews before my appointment had me so nervous. I was honestly worried about going to this Dr because of the horrible reviews. But I honestly think that the people who leave reviews need to be reviewed first. She was really helpful and explained everything about my condition and concerns and even helped with a question about another issue. I have severe anxiety especially seeing new drs and I would love to be able to read reviews for my decision on a dr. Saw her twice. She was able to get down to the issue with my diabetes type 2 high A1c. She explained why the meds I was taking were not working for me. She prescribed a new med plan which according to my recent tests, has worked wonders. I have not seen her during my last two visits. Pam Ackers, has taken over my case and has done an excellent job explaining my situation and making sure my prescribed meds are working properly.

DO NOT go the this "doctor"! Her bedside manner is horrendous. She treats people like they should already know all the medical jargon she throws out. She talks 100 miles a minute and she demanded that I was NOT going to have surgery, when all the complications were already covered by a different doc. DO NOT REFER ANYONE TO HER!!!

I made a mistake. I originally posted a very favorable review of Dr Box, but now must rescind it. First of all, the nurse practitioner is the person you see regularly, not Dr Box, but once or twice a year. The nurse practitioner always wants to debate my diet even though I try to explain I eat in the Zone and I describe what that is, she is sure I am wrong and she is right. I've gotten to where I dread having to meet with her. When I do see Dr. Box, I have to remind her of my conditions and my medical history. I guess she is now too busy to take the time to review my chart before she sees me. Most recently I began to take Jardiance. After a week on Jadiance, I started being extremely weak, fatigued, and light headed. I am on a large variety of medications for heart, blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, and breast cancer. I called Box's office and left a message for the nurse describing my symptoms and asking if this could be the Jardiance interacting with my BP or heart meds, and should I maybe change the time of day I take it. I also called my Cardiologist, and the nurse gave me some instructions on adjusting my meds and gave me an appt with the cardiologist to figure out if it was my heart or the meds. I then received a call from a nurse in Box's office. She stated that if I wanted to stop the Jardiance, to do so, and come in to see Dr Box. I said I didn't want to stop the med, just wanted to know if there was a known interaction with one of my other meds, and how to work around it. She repeated, that I could stop taking it if I wanted to and come in to see Box. I asked, why can't she just look into the medications I am currently taking to see if there is a conflicting interaction with Jardiance. She then stated that Dr Box is not a pharmacist. That stunned me. I asked her if she is saying that Dr Box prescribed medications without knowing how they interact with a patient's current meds, and that it is up to me to check with a pharmacist? She again stated I could stop taking the Jardiance and make an appt to see Dr Box. I said I wasn't sure I wanted to continue with a Dr that doesn't know about the interactions of meds she is prescribing, and I would have to think about it and get back to her. This would have been a good time for Dr Box to call me to get clarity and resolve the issue, but, no call from her. A few days later I had my appointment with my Cardiologist. He came in loaded for bear, very upset with me and defensive of Dr Box. I was blindsided and stunned. Apparently Dr Box had spoken to him about me. I had to recount my conversation with the nurse, at which point he understood and told me the nurse had been entirely inappropriate. Nevertheless, Dr Box undermined and disparaged me rather than reach out to me as her patient. I did not and do not expect a warm and fuzzy Doctor on my team, although I think Dr Box has compartmentalized competence and compassion to be mutually exclusive in her practice. What I do expect is competence, accountability, communication, and esprit de corps, as well as a touch of humility. I am now leaving her as a patient. We finally have more choices in Prescott for Endocrinologist, and Dr Box would be wise to wake up to the implications of her actions, and those of her nursing staff. I made a mistake. I agree with everyone who said that Dr. Box has a terrible bedside manner. I have Hashimoto's disease and hypothyroidism. Upon first evaluating me, Dr. Box spent the entire evaluation telling me to call if I ever become pregnant because we need to increase my medication immediately. I was not pregnant and made no mention of the intention to ever have children. This was a waste of my time when I needed to ask her questions relevant to my treatment. She also told me she wouldn't renew a medication related to my thyroid medicine because "she would probably forget our conversation at some point and we would get into an argument about it." I left and went to a different endocrinologist after I believe only 2 visits. Out of desperation to find a local provider to not have to travel to Phoenix I decided to try Dr. Box again a few years later and see if she had improved. They never responded to my doctor's referral and when I called, the office was very rude and said she was going on vacation. I asked about someone covering for her during her absence and they reported that wasn't necessary, then put me on hold and said Dr. Box didn't think I met the criteria to accept me as a patient although nothing was different from the first time she had me as a patient. Do yourself a favor and make the trek to Phoenix. Don't waste your time or money with this provider. There's a reason she chose a place where she's the only option in town. In her written report to my Family Physician, Dr. Box stated that I had A-Fib. I do not have A-Fib which has been confirmed by my cardiologist again. I then had to notify my Family Physician that the record was wrong as I do not have A-Fib. Not impressed with this doc at all. I felt she did not "see" me so I will go elsewhere.

If I could give 0 stars , I would. My poor 80 yr old mom had to go to this rude, arrogant woman. (I can't even refer to her as a Dr) My mom knows when her body is functioning right, and when it isn't. My mom needs to take a thyroid medication and is always struggling with her levels going from hypo-to hyper.. My mom knows when she is becoming hypo. But every time she calls them to say "Hey, I think I'm going hypo again, can we check the levels?", the response she gets from this Dr and her staff is: "If you don't trust your dr, then find another dr!" What kind of response is that? They refuse to test her early, and when she was finally allowed to test at her regular time (months later), they treated my mom with anger, belittling her and talking down to her. Insisting that my mom doesn't know what she's talking about. Well, guess what? She was hypo alright. 0.1! Can you believe it? My mom was suffering when it was hypo at 4.4 last time. 4.4 is too low. And this dr made her wait until her levell was at 0.1. This dr needs to find a new career. This was not a one time occurrence. This type of treatment is every time. Look around. Diagnosed with Hashimotos at my PCP. Blood levels were normal due to the fact I have been on medication for my thyroid. My PCP sent over a referral to Dr. Box because I was moving to Prescott and also TTC. Dr.Box reviewed my blood labs without even seeing me and denied my referral. She never even looked at me or considered me as a patient. According to guidelines for thyroid and pregnancy if I was to conceive my blood work needs to be checked every 4 weeks. Now I have to look for a PCP to have my thyroid checked. How screwed up is that. I was looking to be established at a office that specializes in my current thyroid problem and was denied that by Dr.Box. Maybe it is a blessing, she dosen't seem to want to be bothered with patients that may need education or help. Hope this helps. Diagnosed with Hashimotos at my PCP. As an MSN prepared nurse, I found Dr. Karen Box to be an excellent communicator, taking her time to listen attentively and explain her initial assessment of my condition. She took an extensive medical history and was able to identify key symptoms, conditions, and lab results that appeared insignificant to other physicians at the time - yet were significant to Dr. Box based on my current health issue. I found her to be an excellent clinician and diagnostician.

If you're under the age of 30 I seriously recommend seeing a different endocrinologist. Dr. Karen Box severely lacks in her bedside manner. I realize politeness and saving face with her patients clearly isn't a priority, but it really should be. Box is an extremely disrespectful physician; one of the rudest I have been to. I am a young woman who has hypothyroidism. I went to Dr. Box for help with my hypothyroidism/weight/depression...etc. because the one pill didn't seem to be doing everything it was supposed to do. We thought that maybe I had Cushing's disease or that something else was wrong with me. She was giving me tests for this disease and naturally I did as much research as I could on the disease so that I knew what to look for and what could possibly happen (Dr. Box told me some but I did not understand all of the medical terms she used and so I had to look it up). The next visit with her I asked a few clarifying questions. Dr. Box nearly called me an idiot for using "Dr. Google". Dr. Box was fine at ordering test and giving us the results. But, she was extremely rude and offensive to me (and my mother, who came along with me on my appointments). I would ask Dr. Box if my thyroid levels were okay because to me something felt off with my body. I know how my body reacts when my pills are off and this was how I was feeling. She shook her head at me and told me the levels were perfectly fine. Dr. Box then went on to say something like "You can't go around blaming everything on your hypothyroidism while it's already being treated with the pill." She hard hardly taken the time to listen to how I was feeling and that to me my thyroid felt off like it had in the past. I had to undergo many blood tests, 24-hour urine tests, and MRI's to figure out if anything else was wrong with me. As you can imagine, going through all of these things while being a full-time college student and working is a bit stressful. I had to drop one of my classes because of how much was going on. We got everything figured out with what was wrong with me and at the end of my last visit with Dr. Box I asked her to write me a note to say that I had a medical excuse for dropping a class (I could have a medical or psychological reason- I had both. I take depression medication and was going through all of these medical tests). Dr. Box scoffed at this request. She said, "You know what, no. I guess this will just be another part of your whole 'life story'." I clenched my jaw and held back from saying anything or doing anything that would get me thrown out of the building. These are just a few examples of the completely unsatisfactory bedside manner of this particular doctor. To think, she had the nerve to tell me that she would like to see me again in about a year or so. I am definitely not going to be seeing her again. Doctor Box is fine at ordering tests, prescribing medication, and giving you results; but if you would like a doctor that you can actually talk to and be treated like a human being- I suggest going some place else. If you're under the age of 30 I seriously recommend seeing a different endocrinologist. Dr. Karen Box severely lacks in her bedside manner.
